New thread lassies for all things Jamie and Claire (and all things in between).

Only two episodes left! Hope everyone enjoyed episode 11.

Happy St. Andrew's Day, everyone!

mateysmum · 30/11/2017 13:54

Whilst I found much of episode 11 strung out, it really came alive on the beach - ie. as soon as J & C reunite. As someone said up thread, this is effectively their real reunion - not nervous, wary and tentative as in the print shop - it's joyous, unconstrained and leads to some hot, drunk sex. Both are just soooo happy to see each other, no doubts remain.

ToniMumsnet · 30/11/2017 22:32

I really enjoyed this episode.
I am so glad that they skipped the bit where Jamie somehow makes over to the ship she is on, but after she has jumped off. Get captured, then escapes and pretends to be a French soldier in order to get back to the Artemis. So very dodgy.

I loved the turtle soup scene. The wedding was just lovely and Mr Willoughby is becoming one of my favourite characters this season. What a surprise.

quirkychick · 01/12/2017 07:19

Toni I agree all of that was a bit a lot ridiculous. Some nonsense about a tavern and french soldiers and then keeping them prisoner on the Artemis?

Show Mr Willoughby is so much better. Both Claire and Jamie are supposed to be well-travelled. You would have thought they would have treated him well. As for all the foot stuff, ew.

I've just googled St Domingue, according to Wikipedia, there was a famous one-armed slave who was a Voodoo priest who led a large band of maroons against plantation owners. So DG would appear to have been using a historical basis for the upcoming episodes. It does sound like something from a James Bond movie Grin.

Countdown to midnight and the Governor's Ball.

haircolourhelp · 02/12/2017 17:32

Have you seen the gift Matt B Roberts gave DG?
What a fab present.

That would look great in my house, just saying.

LittleDorritt · 02/12/2017 19:28

How cool!

MoNigheanDonn · 03/12/2017 06:37

I have found my people!!

Yes yes yes - loved the wedding and J+C reunion/drunken sex scenes.

I’ve read most of the books - I’m as far up as Echo of the bone which is Hmm.

MoNigheanDonn · 03/12/2017 07:57

I've not read the books yet shutup but have heard they are a bit Hmm looking forward to starting them, probably in the new year.

Seen the trailer for the finale and quite a few clips from it on YouTube this morning.

Spoilers it doesn't look as if they are going to be making Geillis old and fat, though I don't think much of her anti-ageing treatment. It reminds me of Elizabeth Barthory in the Countess Dracula Hammer Horror film.

LittleDorritt · 03/12/2017 15:05

I haven't seen the clips but I really couldn't see how they could possibly make Lotte old and fat.

Shutup I'll be starting Echo Over the holidays.

SenecaFalls · 03/12/2017 16:28

It was . . . . interesting. Still trying to decide what I think. Will watch again tonight with DH. Very good scenes with Jamie, Claire, and LJG.

AKAmyself · 03/12/2017 17:03

so I headed over to Reddit because I just can't help myself and the reviews are super-positive. Posters were very complimentary about the way the screenwriters pulled together the most wtf-worthy bits of DG's nonsense plot and made it all work together in a coherent way.

I can't wait!

ToniMumsnet · 03/12/2017 19:46

TBH I am quite concerned about this episode. Are they going to have the murder and Willoughby on the run. Obviously not the murderous priest, but something similar and the whole crocodile bit.

I am really hoping they dump most of it.

LittleDorritt · 03/12/2017 22:03

I'm kind of dreading it tbh. Apart from seeing LJG again!

ToniMumsnet · 03/12/2017 22:12

Yes LJG is something to look forward too.

Lessstressedhemum · 04/12/2017 10:09

That was really good. The interactions between J, C and LJG were great. So awkward. There wasn't much awful slave market stuff. And Yi Tien Cho's story line is very touching.

Geillis is looking good, for a fat, syphiliis riddled 50 something.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 04/12/2017 10:30

I have to stop reading this thread, haven’t watched today’s episode yet

Love all the analysis guys. I’m sure DG didn’t think of half this stuff.

quirkychick · 04/12/2017 11:53

That was good, I'm still struggling with only watching every week. The interplay with C, J and LJG was great. Loved Geillis, too, such an interesting and complex character, she and Claire have an interesting relationship. Having everything happening at the ball worked well and was a good way of bringing it all together. Was the Bakra the name Geillis was called by the slaves in the book? I can't remember.

Less my elderberries should be coming soon for the elderberry and ginger syrup. I've had flu/chest infection this week but have been too ill to organise and make it. Hoping it will help with recovery (and sounds quite delicious too...).

mateysmum · 04/12/2017 11:59

I enjoyed episode 12 much better than 11. There were a lot of divergences from the books (probably a good thing), but that meant the pace was really good and there are some excellent moments with J/C and LJG interacting at the ball. Claire trying to work out the bromance, just after she and Jamie have a wonderful "moment" in the queue to meet the governor.
Still plenty to cover in E13.

LonelyOversharer · 04/12/2017 13:38

How good was that episode! Except then end, surprise surprise Jamie has been caught by the redcoats again yawn.

Looks like Margaret and Mr Willoughby will go off into the sunset together, a neat end to all those threads, I'm guessing he'll catch her brother beating her and kill him.

Loved being in port... "wheres Claire?" Dunno Jamie, you took your eyes off her for a second and she's off causing a shit load of trouble. Slave bit was done very well.

Wasn't Gellis creepy and revolting at the ball. Even covered in blood she looked well and sane. Glad that changed. All in all they clattered through about 1/3 of the book very neatly there. Well done the writers and production team, as ever.

MoNigheanDonn · 04/12/2017 16:00

Enjoyed episode 12. LJG/Jamie/Claire was very well done. Felt bad for Margaret, her brother is not nice. Margaret/Mr Willoughby very touching moment. Claire and Jamies look in the queue was everything. Geillis was very odd, think she is a tad insane. Her face when Young Ian said he wasn't a virgin was funny and goats blood bath - yak! Quelle surprise Jamie and Claire are seperated again?!

In the book, Claire speculates that Geillis is insane from syphilis (early sign) due to having had so many lovers. Quite prevalent in those times, I believe.
