Grin Peridot

Peridot1 · 23/09/2018 15:43

I would love to see the stones!

We went wandering down the Royal Mile and found the Close used for filming. DS was bemused. Also The Worlds End pub where Jamie had arranged to meet Mr Willoughby and then forgot him.

It’s fiction Peridot. Its fiction.

susurration · 23/09/2018 18:56

Peridot I'm very jealous of your visit to Edinburgh. I would love to visit Scotland properly. I've only been once on an open day to Stirling Uni and had dinner in Edinburgh on the way home. The views from the trains were obscured though because it was dark both time we were travelling.

Peridot1 · 24/09/2018 08:54

Susurration - it’s a lovely city. DS really liked it. Was more interested in the city than the university it it’s his number one uni choice so fingers crossed!

@mateysmum -just spotted it was you who warned me against the stones. I name changed recently but our dcs were at same school. TS. DS is still there but I seem to remember yours were older? So may have left. DS is looking to get as far away from T as possible as he hates it here! Likes school but not the town. Hope you are well!

mateysmum · 24/09/2018 09:00

Hi @Peridot I know who you were - CwB. I'm good thanks.

Yes DS is in 3rd year uni now, but a lot closer than Edinburgh. Pity as I could have visited him and done the tour too.

Peridot1 · 24/09/2018 11:39

Yes I was CwB. Good memory!

I would recommend Edinburgh as a great city to visit even with an excuse like a uni open day!

breadwidow · 25/09/2018 22:25

Was in Edinburgh for work today and had some time for wandering before train to Manchester for yet more work so i went to the print shop!

I didn’t think to take a photo on Sunday. DS probably would have been mortified anyway!

Lonesurvivor · 26/09/2018 08:44

Peridot1 I'm very jealous. Dh and are are off to Edinburgh in December with friends, me and dh will be sneaking off to see that close. We were trying to spot while watching if there was anywhere we recognised in Edinburgh. I thought I remembered the pub but wasn't certain but I do, so will be popping in there for a drink. very sad aren't I

Is the close hard to find?
I'm going to go back and download the book to read too, which one is it number two? I've read the series out of order over a long time and have always had a suspicion that I missed the book about when Claire lived in US. After watching season two (many many thanks to whoever recommended Amazon prime, there followed a bingefest) there's a lot I hadn't remembered so I'm almost certain I missed it.

susurration · 26/09/2018 11:02

The third book is where Claire lives in the USA. The second book is culloden.

weaving5688 · 26/09/2018 12:05

Edinburgh is a brilliant city and a fantastic place to be a student. I'm going to have to pass time by re-watching before S4

quirkychick · 03/10/2018 13:28

Thank you to whoever recommended the series Ekaterina (Catherine the Great) on amazon prime, similar timescale to Outlander and Catherine the Great has just ordered them to plant potatoes to overcome famine Smile.

I helped DD3 in her English GCSE exam about Jekyll and Hyde. We watched the Ian Rankin documentary about the Endinburgh roots of the book, where he discussed the Old Town (where the pubs and brothels were) and the New Town (where the middle classes lived). One quote she had to learn was about Jekyll coming back form the end of the world (ie coming home to the New Town after a night out in the Old Town) and pointed out the double/triple meaning as the Worlds End pub marked the transition between the two.

DD3 was massively impressed and wrote about it in the exam (she may have had to shoehorn it in to somewhere not especially relevant - possibly Macbeth Wink), then took the piss when I had to confess where I'd read it (the DDs laugh endlessly about my "hot men in kilts" TV watching Grin)

quirkychick · 03/10/2018 14:54

My history knowledge is completely from fiction, too, MyVisions. "Hot Men in Kilts" works for me Grin.

susurration · 05/10/2018 10:13

New [https://ew.com/tv/2018/10/04/outlander-season-4-ew-cover/ entertainment weekly] images and short article. Only a month to go!

Lessstressedhemum · 05/10/2018 10:52

The HH'ers do not like those photos at all. They are all complaining about Sam looking dirty, weak and sad. Perhaps forgetting that he was actually working at River Run, as well as being the boss. And, obviously, not taking into account tht he is a fair skinned, ginger Scot covered in sun kisses (freckles). They are so hard to please.

Hot men in kilts are my not so guilty, not so secret pleasure!

quirkychick · 05/10/2018 11:38

Erm, do they not know that red heads often get freckles in the sun? Literally a hot man in a kilt Grin.

RoseMartha · 05/10/2018 11:49

I liked the pics, some people are never happy.

susurration · 05/10/2018 11:59

I guess he does look like he's had his hands in the soil, but I like that!

snozzlemaid · 05/10/2018 12:35

Ooh. Yes. I'm loving the dirty look Smile

blibblibs · 05/10/2018 22:20

I must say I wasn't that keen on the new pictures. Not cause he's dirty, I like that, but he doest look a bit off in them.
Caitriona is looking as stunning as ever though.
Started book four last week hoping it would keep me going until the 5th but I've finished it already 😔 so back to the start of S1for me.
I really must get a grip 😁

quirkychick · 10/10/2018 18:53

Quite a few interviews with the cast on YouTube for Season 4, if anyone wants to join me down that rabbit hole Grin.

crumpet · 11/10/2018 20:19

The behind the scenes footage of the new pics is nice though.

quirkychick · 12/10/2018 13:05

Calling from my rabbithole, the Shaun channel on YouTube has a spoiler filled review of Episode 1 Season 4. Just saying.

Florabella · 12/10/2018 17:46

I've ventured down the rabbit hole and seen a few of the interviews. Good to know they have already started working on season 5!!
