Jamie is the only person ever to still look hot while puking!

John Grey books are good. They give a good bit of background and you can watch John and Jamie develop their friendship. The Scottish Prisoner is the best, but that's my JAAMF obsession speaking.

Ok thanks I'll take the plunge then. Feel a bit lost without an enormously heavy book to read, and can't quite accept it's the end...

MoNigheanDonn · 14/11/2017 17:14

HR no release date as yet for book 9 however on her Facebook page she has mentioned possibly late 2018.

In was in Waterstones today taking pics of book 4 and 5 so dh buys me them haha.

DryWhiteagainW · 14/11/2017 21:34

Not sure I'll be able to cope when Jamie, Fergus and Roger are on screen together!

Loved it. Fergus get sexier by the minute. Mr W was spectacular, fantastic acting when making his speech, so moving.

Anyone noticed that every time J and C seem happy, have great sex, something terrible happens?

JuneFromBethesda · 14/11/2017 21:57

Well, I enjoyed that so much that having finished it, I went straight back to the start to watch it again Grin

Love, love, love Marsali squaring up to Jamie. You could see how much fun they were having with it, thrusting their jaws at each other Grin And Fergus' little shake of the head when Marsali says she'll tell everyone he's bedded her. Such a great scene.

Jamie looked ridiculously gorgeous throughout this entire episode. WHY don't men dress like that any more? In his tricorn, jacket with silver buttons and wool plaid .... a feast for the eyes ...

Lovely Fergus Smile

I was a bit bored with Mr W's speech though I'm afraid Blush

Loved the quiet moments with J & C. That's when the chemistry between the actors really shows and it's lovely to watch.

All in all, great stuff. I do love this show. I'm going to be bereft when it's over.

JuneFromBethesda · 14/11/2017 22:00

I am also so envious of CB - she looked utterly beautiful in this episode. Wish I looked like that in a straw hat!

MoNigheanDonn · 14/11/2017 22:09

She is gorgeous isn't she June and Fergus oooft.

SenecaFalls · 14/11/2017 22:16

Love, love, love Marsali squaring up to Jamie.

I agree. And it reveals something nice about Jamie as a parent that she is not afraid to stand up for herself with him.

Also great chemistry between Marsali and Fergus.

quirkychick · 15/11/2017 06:49

The whole show looks beautiful, though. The soft lighting below decks with the wood panelling, the ship, the costumes, the easy on the eye actors... men's clothes then we're very gorgeous.

I'm sure I heard an interview with SH saying that he had to puke up an egg white mixture, sounds gross. I'm glad they kept his seasickness in, it makes Jamie seem more human. You know how hard it is for him to make this voyage to find Young Ian.

CB does look very beautiful, in the books much is made of what an attractive woman she is. I love the adaptations to her outfit too.

Verra good point Grin

Late to the party here it I enjoy this weeks episode and thought the characters and interactions were just right.

However all I could think about was the mess and smell on Clare's skirt as she walked through the sick bay on the naval ship. If it was so bad she had to cover her mouth surely she would have hitched her skirt up a bit

JuneFromBethesda · 15/11/2017 09:36

I was thinking about her skirt too suki! Ick.

Fantasticmissfoxy · 15/11/2017 09:40

Slalom I noticed when she got on the ship her skirt was very short / high (sort of mid calf) I had presumed it was to stop tripping and getting it wet on this ship but I guess it would also stop it soaking up the vom and poop below decks 🤢

quirkychick · 15/11/2017 11:10

I imagine 18th century long skirts would have got really grim at the bottom, with mud, street effluents and on a ship, bilge water, limited washing facilities too. I imagine that's why it was hoiked up.

Lessstressedhemum · 15/11/2017 12:45

Yes, her skirt was really short on the boat. I kept thinking that the sailors would have been scandalised!

late to the party but finally watched episode 9. Overall I really enjoyed it, it was fun and paced and all the things you've been saying about Claire looking more luminous by the day and Jamie vomiting in such an attractive manner.

Although I must say Fergus is the new object of my lust adoration! He's yummy!

Have we talked about the opening credits yet?!? I'm not sure how I feel about the caribbean rhythm....

SenecaFalls · 15/11/2017 22:47

I like the music. I like how they adapt it to the setting. Loved when they did part of the theme song in French last season.

AngeloMysterioso · 16/11/2017 06:41

I skip through the opening credits every week Blush

quirkychick · 16/11/2017 06:42

I liked the credits too and how they still keep the Scottish musical theme for Jamie and Claire when they get romantic are about to have sex. The credits give us a nice teaser of what's to come, I like the way they hark back to season 1 but also the drums give us a Caribbean flavour of where they are heading.

JuneFromBethesda · 16/11/2017 07:22

I do too Angelo! I don't like the singer's voice so have to fast forward until she stops singing.

AKAmyself · 16/11/2017 09:53

Did I mention I love Fergus? Becuase I love Fergus. The conversation between him and Jamie in the cabin was exactly the sort of interaction you’d expect from two men who have Great love and respect for each other, a not white father-son bond, some unresolved guilt issues (on Jamie’s side mostly) and who have been quite comfortable with showing each other the less than noble side of their characters over the past 5/10 years (I love that it is all implied). And suddenly both of them find themselves bound to women they love and want to honour and it’s all a bit complicated, innit.

Marsali is proving herself to be Jamie’s soul-daughter, stubborn and headstrong and oh so wonderful. He’ll be sorely disappointed when he meets wet-rag Bree (I know, I’m awful to poor Brianna)

quirkychick · 16/11/2017 10:13

AKA that was a great conversation between Fergus and Jamie. I imagine Fergus knows quite a bit about Jamie's troubled marriage to Laoghaire through Marsali, as well as Jamie himself. Those scriptwriters are using their magic again, because Fergus and Marsali have great dramatic potential. Fergus knew Claire before, and Marsali is obviously loyal to her mother, but will start to build a relationship with Claire.

Brianna should be such as great character, with Jamie for a father and Claire for a mother. Fiesty, headstrong, gun toting, clever etc. but she seems so irritating in the books and so far a bit sweet in the show. I hope we see a more rounded character emerge in Season 4.

AKAmyself · 16/11/2017 11:53

I’m really glad the show has glossed over the fact that Fergus is 30 and Marsali ... much younger. I mean you can still work it out but that always put me right off.

I love that the actor playing Fergus has this angel face and mischievous eyes - really perfect casting

AKAmyself · 16/11/2017 11:54

I agree, Quirky. Tv Brianna is just too sweet. There is no way someone growing up in a household as repressed and passive aggressive as the Randall’s could turn out to be so meek.

quirkychick · 16/11/2017 13:24

AKA that's a really good description of Claire and Frank's marriage! I would have thought Brianna would have picked up more of that. I know in the book she says something like daddy loved me, he didn't love you (can't remember if this was in the tv show). It can't have been a nice atmosphere.

I do like the parallels between Frank taking on Claire's child by Jamie and Jamie taking on Laoghaire's children. Both trying to be honourable but living in loveless marriages.

I assume Marsali's young age would have been normal, just not the eloping part.
