And folk complaining that it's pricey!

Alma ends up being Audrey's best friend and also becomes close to Gail. During Alma's illness, I recall Gail saying, "you are my mam's best friend and now you're mine as well".
Or something like that.

Richard Hillman was Alma's cousin. That's how he came into it.

Bet: "Thats my iron, I got it on HP" Grin

more scene stealing by lucky the greyhound Grin

ChevalierTialys · 14/06/2018 20:14

Are Bet and Alec really going to get divorced?? [Sad]

Redglitter · 14/06/2018 21:15

Nah I'll give it another few episodes before they're back together. They were together a good few years before he left

SuperSuperSuper · 14/06/2018 23:42

They were happily married again when Vicky arrived, so they must reconcile.

EdithWeston · 15/06/2018 06:41

Alma is stressed to Betsy right now - it'll all change

(I feel nervous about posting spoilers, even on something that was broadcast decades ago - people know the main story arcs, but might have forgotten/missed the detail. There was quite wide ownership of VHS recorders by the time these episodes were first transmitted, but they were such a pain to programme that I think most people would just miss some if they were busy/away. That still shows on some of the dialogue)

kikashi · 15/06/2018 08:26

This is a period when I didn't/couldn't watch often - don't remember Tina or Mark Carney really at all but I don't mind spoilers as it is all past and the info out there.

ChevalierTialys · 15/06/2018 09:41

All info is totally spoilers for me as I was about 3 when these episodes were on but I don't mind because, as @kikashi says, all the info is out there already. Cant really prevent them! I've spent a fair bit of time of the Corrie Wiki spoiling things for myself anyway Grin

Iwantacampervan · 15/06/2018 10:18

I had forgotten about Vicky - she appears in 1990.

Kannet · 15/06/2018 11:24

I remember thinking Vicky was so glamorous.

I actually had a nightmare about Alan Bradley last night, might have spent too much time watching lol

Lynne Perrie loathed the actress who played Vicky. She ripped her to shreds in her autobiography.

Vicky was Steve's first onscreen girlfriend I think.

Tractorprincess · 15/06/2018 13:24

Can anyone explain how Vicky was Alec's granddaughter? As I didn't think Alec had any children.

SuperSuperSuper · 15/06/2018 13:34

Alec had mentioned to Bet, an ex wife from when he was very young, who ran off with their baby. Spoilers coming up...

..the "baby", middle-aged in 1989/90 of course, dies in a car crash, leaving behind an orphaned Vicky (I can't remember whether the spouse dies in the same accident or whether they were already dead, but Vicky was definitely an orphan when she joined the show). Alec was the closest relative, so Social Services asked him and Bet to become Vicky's guardians.

Iwantacampervan · 15/06/2018 13:39

Vicky was Steve's first onscreen girlfriend I think.

Steve's first wife too!
Did Lynne Perrie like anyone?

Tractorprincess · 15/06/2018 13:45

Thanks super.

SuperSuperSuper · 15/06/2018 15:05

iirc Lynne Perrie liked Bill Tarmey, Johnny Briggs, Jill Summers, Helen Worth, Chris Quinten and a few others. She was close to Liz Dawn but they argued a lot. She claimed that Julie Goodyear wanted to have sex with her, along with most of the men. She commended the professionalism of Kevin Kennedy, Sally Dynevor, Sean Wilson, Nigel Pivaro and Michael Le Vell, saying that they were respectful, and keen to learn from their more experienced colleagues. Sadly, only Helen and Chris attended her funeral though.

She had digs at a lot of the others, including Warren Jackson, who was only a kid! It's fair to say that she spoke her mind.

FabulouslyFab · 15/06/2018 18:18

We went to see The Commitments in Manchester a couple of years ago and Kevin Kennedy was in it. We noticed that he didn’t act as much as shout. Watching the classics proves that it has always been his style!! Smile

ChevalierTialys · 15/06/2018 18:46

She claimed that Julie Goodyear wanted to have sex with her

Is Julie Goodyear into women? Or was that wishful thinking on Lynne Perrie's part?

SuperSuperSuper · 15/06/2018 19:09

She claimed that Julie G is bisexual.

southeastdweller · 15/06/2018 19:14

Julie G is bi, she’s said it herself in her book.

DumbSonOfABitch · 15/06/2018 20:38

Lynne Perrie seemed like a very unpleasant woman irl

BluthsFrozenBananas · 18/06/2018 14:47

Didn't she get sacked in the end for having a load of plastic surgery? I'm sure I also remember her going on The Word shortly after she left and making a total fool of herself. I think she had a drinking problem too.

SuperSuperSuper · 18/06/2018 17:08

She also bedded hundreds (not exaggerating) of men whilst her husband turned a blind eye. The husband didn't work, even after their child started secondary school, and enjoyed her money too much to make a fuss I think. It sounded quite dismal tbh.

The official reason for her departure was that the character had run its course. She commented spitefully in the book that it was odd to keep deadwood Betty Turpin and Emily Bishop but not Ivy. She pulled no punches!
