Raquel - appears in 1991 and also Roy but he doesn't start until 1995.

SuperSuperSuper · 10/06/2018 08:45

Raquel
Reg

Iwantacampervan · 10/06/2018 09:01

I had forgotten Reg - he's due to appear soon. There's also Fred Elliott. It does mean that Maureen (Sherrie Hewson) will be around too!

Kannet · 10/06/2018 09:04

I loved reg and Maureen.

Also Wendy Crozier. I remember that story being compelling back in the day.

kikashi · 11/06/2018 21:07

She should be in it soon. It was a BIG story.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 11/06/2018 21:13

Wendy Crozier is this year, the story line culminates at Christmas.

southeastdweller · 11/06/2018 21:46

We should 'first' see her later this month.

In current Corrie, when Kylie died, Gail talked to David about how she handled Brian's death all wrong with Nicky. She told him she didn't explain things right, and not to make the same mistake with Max. I remember because it was the first time in a long while that Gail hadn't irritated me, it was a really good scene between Gail and David. It's interesting to be able to watch it and see what she was talking about.

Bet saying “It’s worth paying the odds to look at that tight little bum”in the restaurant with Rita.😃

cloudyweewee · 13/06/2018 06:34

AIBU in saying that Betty Driver was a crap actor? She cannot actually to save her life.

Yes, you are.

southeastdweller · 13/06/2018 08:08

She wasn't one of the stronger actors. I remember Lynne Perrie having a dig at her in her book.

kikashi · 13/06/2018 08:37

Betty was a stage performer - she was a popular music hall and radio singer and "actress" from a young age and had a touring "betty Driver Show".
Apparently she auditioned for the Hilda Ogden role but they wanted a thinner actress. She was very broad brush but I always liked her. They never gave her involved story lines.

I read about her a few years back and she had a hard and sad life - cruel parents, never felt good enough, men who abused and controlled her, ripped off all her earnings and cheated on her.

CoolCarrie · 13/06/2018 08:41

I loved Alec’s line about Bet “ swinging her earrings behind the bar between appointed hours” some very funny comments between them.

CoolCarrie · 13/06/2018 08:43

I think Betty was meant to be a mother hen, especially with Bet. She wasn’t a great actress, but she was a hell of a lot better than many of the cast now. She does have a good storyline coming up ahead.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 13/06/2018 11:25

I have a fondness for Betty because she reminds me of my favourite great aunt. My aunt was also a generously proportioned woman with a fondness for floral smocks who called everyone lovey. I don't think she ever cooked hot pots though.

drearydeardre · 13/06/2018 15:49

I have a new found dislike of the Ivy Brennan character since she did not appreciate the beautiful greyhound Lucky who had commandeered her tatty 1980s sofa - how dare she drag the poor dog outside - they are very sensitive souls Grin
I have a very soft spot for pointie hounds.
Alma seems a very bossy character - I am sure she mellowed in later episodes and took up with Mike Baldwin.

kikashi · 13/06/2018 16:41

My memory of Alma was that she was very nice but she's horrid in these early scenes.

FabulouslyFab · 13/06/2018 18:07

“You see this smile, Betty? It’s not really a smile - it’s a lid on a scream.”
Love it!!!

CoolCarrie · 13/06/2018 18:47

Alma is awful now, Audrey obviously can’t stand her, but I am sure they end up best friends later on.

ChevalierTialys · 13/06/2018 19:41

The dialogue is so good, i just LOVE Bet!

FlowerOfTheValley · 13/06/2018 22:18

The greyhound, Lucky, is so gorgeous. I did like Ivy and Don's dialogue when Lucky chewed the sofa. Mental image of Ivy eating a chunk of the sofa.

Another one here who recalled a pleasant Alma and finds her currently vile.

Iwantacampervan · 14/06/2018 06:48

40p for a cup of tea!
