My favourite bit of the "liberated Paris" scene was Alec's reaction.

Housewife2010 · 15/02/2018 15:02

Did you see the denim clad young man boogying along by himself (!) with a ghetto blaster just as Jenny and Patric were about to enter the park?

scrabbler3 · 15/02/2018 17:56

That was hilarious! What an '80s stereotype!

I note that Rita's lovely 1970s tea service has been updated to a 1980s M+S set. My parents had one like that.

Kikashi · 15/02/2018 18:48

I liked Alec's description of Jenny as "an English Rose in an indifferent summer" but not his opinion that women can't take the long view and are a burden!

Redglitter · 16/02/2018 00:54

Love the old episodesbut honestly is there a more pointless or irritating character than Percy Sugden

Housewife2010 · 16/02/2018 06:57

I like Percy. I loved him telling Patric that he'd liberated Paris.

Kannet, just to keep you up to date, Susan is pregnant , and Mike is delighted and wants to tell everyone, so they tell Ken and Deidre, who are arguing about the conference.

Alec wants Betty to use more salt in her hot pot so people will drink more and he is off to Germany to organise entertainment for the troops, Bet wants to go, as a second honeymoon, but has to look after the pub, so she and Gloria are “ going to have a few laughs” and it means that she can go off for a holiday, and Alec can’t complain.
Martin has been for an interview at the printers he Dad works at.

Kannet · 16/02/2018 19:46

Thanks for keeping me up to date. Hopefully can start watching next week some time x

I didn't like the look of Baldwin Towers - too isolated. Why can Susan not just tell Mike she wants to live closer to town in a smaller house, kept taking contraception or kept her trap shut about the baby? Are we meant to think she is overwhelmed and kind of bullied by Mike?

I liked the Mavis being frightened to sit on the jury story line. Good writing making a tragic -comic tale out of very little - nowadays she would scared for her life and thinking of fleeing the country as she would be on Phelan's hitlist or the like.

Iwantacampervan · 20/02/2018 15:04

I spot Sarah Lancashire before she reappeared as Raquel.

CoolCarrie · 20/02/2018 17:51

I woke the cat up shouting out” Raquel” when she appeared!

southeastdweller · 20/02/2018 21:14

Today's episodes were originally broadcast on the 11th and 16th November 1987 (for those who want to watch on YouTube).

user1471558723 · 20/02/2018 22:42

I wonder why Terry Duckworth suddenly disappeared at this point. His departure seemed very hastily added to the script. Was the actor playing him written out for some reason?
It was interesting to see Sarah Lancashire pop up today as "Wendy"
So many of the actors appear more than once with a different character e.g. Kevin Webster, Alan Bradley.

Kikashi · 21/02/2018 08:31

I think Nigel Pivaro (Terry) wanted to do more theatre work again. I think his exit seems hasty as ITV3 are showing 2 episodes a day which was a whole week's worth of episodes in 1987. So if the woman he left with was in 6 or 7 episodes that would be a month and half's worth of viewing. I found watching her husband Pete confusing as a few years later he was back as a different character.

Iwantacampervan · 21/02/2018 15:27

Do I get points for spotting Marina (Last of the Summer Wine)? Poor Hilda.

Excitedforxmas · 22/02/2018 10:01

Did you see bet smoking in the hospital waiting room

CoolCarrie · 22/02/2018 12:32

Yes, I had to look twice and the doctor saying there used to be tin foil ashtrays in the waiting rooms.

Housewife2010 · 22/02/2018 13:20

Terry Duckworth left so the actor could play Ferdinand in The Tempest. I went to see it with my A Level class. I was very surprised to realise that Terry Duckworth was on the stage! There was lots of whispering down the row of 17 year girls.

Carol1 · 23/02/2018 02:50

I just love Mavis!

Carol1 · 23/02/2018 02:51

Bet is a horrid bully!

MrsDilber · 23/02/2018 03:21

It's got to be better than current Corrie. I stopped watching about 6 months ago.

Redglitter · 23/02/2018 09:26

Bet is a horrid bully

To who?

Housewife2010 · 23/02/2018 10:25

Mavis and Derek are fantastic characters. I loved today's sleepover episode. I've never liked Bet - she's too much of a pantomime dame. This morning's episodes were excellent.

HelloGabriel · 23/02/2018 12:23

I'm enjoying this so much, I even have it recording on Series Link Grin

I was a toddler when these episodes were originally aired so as trying to hard to avoid spoilers!

I obviously know about the Blackpool tram storyline but I can't believe it as I think Rita's husband is quite a nice chap at the minute, can't wait to see what happens to his character! I'm assuming he morphs into a bit of a psycho?

HelloGabriel · 23/02/2018 12:24

So am trying so hard* - not sure what happened there!
