Hopefully if I fill the first line or two with crap it won't show up any spoilers?

NOt my theory read iton OG but very interesting one

As we've realised, Frank Morgan played the Wizard of Oz in the 1939 film. Gene has nicknamed Sam 'Dorothy' before now... And someone else has already mentioned that Ray needs a heart, Chris needs a brain, Annie needs courage and Sam needs to get home.

Deffo B theory, otherwise that v long scene in the graveyard was a complete red herring and I think LoM was better than that.

lemonaid · 10/04/2007 22:15

Ah, but you only say that from a modern viewpoint. Had you watched this in 1973 you wouldn't have known if it was accurate or not. If the creators want there to be any ambiguity at all then clearly all the 21st century imaginings of Sam's fevered brain had to tie in with our own experience.

Or perhaps we're all in a fantasy 2007. You may just be an imagined presence from a few of my neurons misfiring and I'm really having a very odd dream in 1973.

I am an (a) girl myself, but if (b) were right it would stil lhave to be structured/detailed that way.

mummy2aaron · 10/04/2007 22:15

Has anyone any concrete info on the 80's spin off as I already have withdrawal symptoms

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 10/04/2007 22:15

I think he made the wrong decision in the tunnel, morally, so HAD to suffer in 2007 and be miserable. If he'd made the right decision, gone back and saved annie and gene, he would have been allowed to be happy back in 2007... but he was weak.
By rights, they should have ended it on the dilema in the tunnel - a real 'will he won't he' cliffhanger would have been brilliant OR left him to suffer in 2007 (bit sad but good).
Instead they went for the crowd pleaser option, cos we all like a happy ending, no?!

by the by, was that Tom Waits song 'falling in love' (sob) out in 1973?! They've always been pretty strict with the music i thought - but maybe i wasn't always paying attention.

MrsDoolittle · 10/04/2007 22:15

I think it Soupdragon will know, I'm sure it's the soundtrack to her menage. If it isn't hers, I think misdee will know...

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 22:16

JackieNo-think there was a reason for it, let me watch again and I'll listen

OP posts:
JackieNo · 10/04/2007 22:16

It's this version of over the rainbow.

lemonaid · 10/04/2007 22:18

[my previous post was to elasticbandstand, BTW]

Might not be red herring. Might be desperate attempt on part of brain tumour to convince Sam that 1973 was real and worth fighting for.

I wanted to do English A-level, but my mother talked me out of it. Bah.

turquoise · 10/04/2007 22:19

Spinoff no good to me, I want more John Simm

He is truly brilliant, that scene when he was crying over the official papers - OMG.

misdee · 10/04/2007 22:19

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole somehwre over the rainbow.

pageturner · 10/04/2007 22:19

out next week

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 22:19

Thanks JackieNo

OP posts:
lemonaid · 10/04/2007 22:20

John Simm in Doctor Who later this series. Although less motherable, if rumours are correct.

JackieNo · 10/04/2007 22:20

YOu can pre-order the dvds in Woolworths too - I got all excited to see the boxes on the shelf last weekend, but they were only for pre-ordering.

booge · 10/04/2007 22:20

The more I think about it the more tragic the ending is. Firstly that his real life was so empty and I think Lemonaid is right the test card girl turning off is his moment of death.

MrsDoolittle · 10/04/2007 22:21

Your right that's it!!

Can anyone tell me if it's on the soundtrack?

I was thinking about buying it.

turquoise · 10/04/2007 22:21

I really don't want to mother him.

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 22:21

[smug face] I order the dvds at the w/e when they were 1/2 price on Play.com AND I did post about them before anyone moans!

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 10/04/2007 22:22

ooh lemonaid, your 'either or' post is good (a) I would have thought.

Sigh at not having any more droolworthy Tuesday nights.

elasticbandstand · 10/04/2007 22:22

good point lemonaid,
despearaely thinking of other references to modern day...

pageturner · 10/04/2007 22:22

Enormous: the song is from Closing Time which was written in 1973.

Moomin · 10/04/2007 22:23

Israel Kamakawiwo Ole sang this version. It's the one they used on ER when Dr Greene died.

Feel wrung out by that now.... it was brilliant. My heart was beating out of my mouth when he was on top of that building. Oooo i LOVES an appy ending

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 22:23

at the start at least in his RL he had his GF but then she left him

OP posts:
pageturner · 10/04/2007 22:23

who want to mother him?!

lemonaid · 10/04/2007 22:23

Well, mother may not be entirely accurate in every respect. But he has a little-boy-lost quality in this in particular. Maybe he just needs the Lust Of A Good Woman.
