Hopefully if I fill the first line or two with crap it won't show up any spoilers?

NOt my theory read iton OG but very interesting one

As we've realised, Frank Morgan played the Wizard of Oz in the 1939 film. Gene has nicknamed Sam 'Dorothy' before now... And someone else has already mentioned that Ray needs a heart, Chris needs a brain, Annie needs courage and Sam needs to get home.

Apparantly there is an 1980s spinoff.

JackieNo · 10/04/2007 22:08

And the Wizard of Oz references were obviously kind of along the right lines, given that they had 'Somewhere over the rainbow'.

elasticbandstand · 10/04/2007 22:08

good ending, it had to end after all..

beansprout · 10/04/2007 22:08

Is it just a big LURVE story then?!

Hulababy · 10/04/2007 22:08

OK, have passed all info onto DH - who has really enjoyed it all but still a tad confused I think, lol!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/04/2007 22:08

Wow - very good

it's now ended.....

lemonaid · 10/04/2007 22:09

Either

(a) Sam was in a coma with added brain tumour in 2006. Frank Morgan is a surgeon who operated on him and brought him out of it. But Sam couldn't cope with life back in 2006 and was happier in his fantasy of 1973, so he jumped off the roof putting himself back in a coma or possibly even dying, and 1973 is the final happy fantasy of a dying man.

Or

(b) Sam was a deep undercover officer in 1973 who had a history of catatonia, was suffering from amnesia and whose subconscious constructed a fictional existence in far-distant 2006 to explain bits and pieces of remembered backstory. When placed under stress this subconscious would create "messages" from the future, and eventually he retreated into a catatonic state where he was living in a fantasy 2006. But he eventually broke out of that (jumping off the roof in the fantasy 2006) to return to real life in 1973.

You pays your money and you takes your choice...

MrsDoolittle · 10/04/2007 22:09

I loved,loved,loved it!!!!(had a few wines)
It included all the nedings I hoped for.

Now someone please tell me who did the "Somewhere over the rainbow" song.
I remember some poeple did it for their menages, I can't remember who did it though.

kittypants · 10/04/2007 22:10

misdee · 10/04/2007 22:10

i am glad it ended when it did and they didnt drag it out. was very very good and i only started watching half way through this series. dh has seen them all. myust get the dvds.

lemonaid · 10/04/2007 22:10

The girl from the testcard right at the end leads me to suspect scenario (a).

elasticbandstand · 10/04/2007 22:11

no, not (b), what about modern day references, looking for his pc, his mobile etc.,..

MrsDoolittle · 10/04/2007 22:11

The spin off is about Gene Hunt.

A good thing as he was brilliant, we'll 'ave more of 'im Ta very much!!

beansprout · 10/04/2007 22:11

Oooh, Lemonaid, I like your (b) theory. Ties in with everything Morgan was saying in the graveyard.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/04/2007 22:12

misdee - at least we share some taste in tv

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 22:12

Hula-give him the thread to read -then he'll be totally confused!

OP posts:
kittypants · 10/04/2007 22:12

lemonaid what about girl and scenario?

JackieNo · 10/04/2007 22:13

I really don't like that version of 'over the rainbow' - all the words are in the wrong order.

MrsWho · 10/04/2007 22:14

I would like to know who sang somewhere over the rainbow too

OP posts:
kittypants · 10/04/2007 22:14

sorry ignore my last post.doh.

Hulababy · 10/04/2007 22:14

MrsWho - lol, I think that is what confused him somuch in first place - me giving him all these scenarios and theories on here!

pageturner · 10/04/2007 22:14

Oh, I LOVED it!

kittypants · 10/04/2007 22:14

sounds bit like jack johnson but dont think it is though

florenceuk · 10/04/2007 22:14

I can't believe (b) because there were too many things that Sam knew from 2007. Now will he invest in Microsoft and make a fortune and retire?

I can see why Caitlin was disappointed - but also why the writers went for the upbeat ending (sort of - after all technically Sam is actually dead).

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/04/2007 22:15

lemonaid - did you do theatre studies/english A level?

You're very good at the analysis and constructing theories

I failed Theatre Studies - which is why I cannot come up with any ideas, the thicko that I am
