As we've realised, Frank Morgan played the Wizard of Oz in the 1939 film. Gene has nicknamed Sam 'Dorothy' before now... And someone else has already mentioned that Ray needs a heart, Chris needs a brain, Annie needs courage and Sam needs to get home.

I thought she did, genuinely -- like someone who's really been enjoying the show (which is funny and intelligent and doesn't patronise the viewer and manages to evoke that 1970s nostalgia vibe within the structure of the show rather than being overtaken by it) and feels badly let down by the last few minutes of a tacked-on ending that talks down to the audience and undermines the quality they've managed to maintain up until now. I mean, if she's right then I shall be pissed off. And I'm definitely nice

I read a review at weekend (either sunday times or indy on sunday) and it said ending definitely does not let series down.

My theory for tonight is that the Wizard of Oz will be the main feature; Sam will be given chance to come home as long as he betrays Gene and team in some way -I'm thinking it will be matter of life or death- and, Sam decides to save Gene et al and Sam dies in hospital in 2006.

Last scene will be Sam's mum (played by diff actress as will be his older mum) with Mia, breaking down and supported by Sam's consultant (Frank Morgan), his main nurse (Annie), Junior doc (Chris) and porter (Ray), as per other theory bit further down - but will be done is very spooky way, maybe just getting the briefest of glimpses of the other characters in their 2006 roles. Again, not sure about Gene? But maybe will be the biggest shock of them all and leave shiver down spine at the very end.

am inordinately excited! will defo tape tonight's episode and watch again after.

mind you, I've been keeping an eye on John Simm for a long time....... He's lovely and a bloody good actor. I remember him in Cracker

ooh i have a theory!
he wakes up and he ia in late 1800s early 1900s and the 2005 and 1970s sam is all a dream....also sam was the same name as the leaper in quantum leap! and that always started the same sort of way as life on mars

just remembered last quantumn leap sam talked to a barman and he turned out to be god [i think] who was making him leap ..[i still think the barman in lom is a big part of this too]

My ten year old (who has NOT been allowed to watch it), thinks there's a TV in Sam's hospital room where he's in a coma, showing 1970s cop dramas on a loop and the characters have made their way into Sam's unconscious mind.

I LOVE the Wizard of Oz theory - that's blown my mind. Isn't there a bright green telephone in it as well??
