I'm sure there are many planning to watch this tonight but I can't see a thread, apologies if there is one.

Looks promising with good acting stock. I'm already worried about the implications for real life reporting and conviction rates if the female is lying. Got a feeling it won't be that black and white though.

Looking forward to the characters' backstories being revealed.

I also think there was a third party involved and think there's more to the taxi than what we've seen. She sounded friendly and familiar when she said hello when calling a taxi to take the surgeon home - makes me think she was actually calling the driver from earlier that night.

MissEliza · 12/09/2017 11:22

I wondered about the taxi driver too. My gut says there's a third person involved but surely the forensics would have picked that up? Why did she have a shower?!

honeyroar · 12/09/2017 11:25

I think I enjoyed it! I wasn't totally concentrating. At the moment I'm swinging towards believing her. He didn't take no for an answer when he called in her classroom either..

Sidge · 12/09/2017 12:38

Oh I liked it. I'm on the fence about who did what. I wondered if the comment "did you tell them about what happened last time?" is relevant - has she reported a rape before?

Is he creepy or lovely? Why did he come to the school?

The ex and the sister - what's that all about?

The taxi driver - what relevance?

Canoe man - where does he come in?

The wine glasses - huh?

The lapses in continuity are really annoying. She woke up with her clothes on but told the police he'd undressed her. She needed a taxi to get there but they walked home. It's sloppy. I thought she got a taxi because she was running late - she said when she arrived "sorry I'm late". I think the clothes thing might be part of the plot, so not a continuity error, it might become a significant plot point.

Looking forward to next week's episode.

Openup41 · 12/09/2017 12:58

She did seem to know the taxi driver whose face we did not see at all. Usually you would expect to see a glimpse of the driver especially as they were having a conversation.

newjobblewobble · 12/09/2017 13:10

I only tuned is as she arrived for her date. Was canoe man before that? Missed the taxi driver too Confused

haveacupoftea · 12/09/2017 13:21

I think it was the ex who raped her. He only moved out that morning, he might have still had a key.

If it's anything like Broadchurch it'll be someone totally random like the sisters husband or the surgeons son.

Poisongirl81 · 12/09/2017 13:25

Surgeons son! Good call he might have access to.his dad's medication at home and they would share DNA?

LittleWitch · 12/09/2017 13:26

There's going to have to be a lot more to it if they're going to spin it out over 6 weeks. As others have said, I think they're both telling the truth, but where does that leave the dead wife backstory?

On another note, why does the surgeon sister live in a hovel? The interior looks like a beach hut furnished from a charity shop Hmm.

Poisongirl81 · 12/09/2017 13:27

The taxi was £20 to get there so it must have been a fair distance. They walked home that would be about 10 miles!

mirage937 · 12/09/2017 13:52

I think it would be better as a 3 part thing, 6 episodes seems a lot to drag it out !
Is the male detective from Scott and bailey he looks familiar can't put my finger where from

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 12/09/2017 14:15

Marking place. Haven't watched it yet but already very wary of the storyline. Another Ioan lover though Grin

dottypotter · 12/09/2017 14:33

I they are both telling the truth she was raped but not by him. Her ex or the taxi driver turned up when he left and she is confused and thinks its her date. Watch this space.

MissEliza · 12/09/2017 17:52

Yes Mirage I think you're right. His face was familiar but I couldn't remember from where. Why don't they do another series of Scott and Bailey? There were so many great actresses in it.

Charley50 · 12/09/2017 18:05

I thought it was quite crap. Doesn' compare to Broadchuch. And Broadchurch isn't that great.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/09/2017 18:17

At least this hasn't got Olivia Coleman and her dreadful accent in it!

Charley50 · 12/09/2017 18:55

Oh I love Olivia Coleman in Broadchurch.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/09/2017 18:56

I'm in the minority, I know, I can't stand her in anything.

LouiseBrooks · 12/09/2017 19:26

why does the surgeon sister live in a hovel?

He has a sister???? I missed that totally!

Allthebestnamesareused · 12/09/2017 19:34

LouiseBrooks I think they meant why does the sister who is a surgeon live in a hovel,

(A) I don't think it was a hovel!!

(B) was she a doctor or a theatre nurse?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/09/2017 19:35

Hovel? She lived in a lovely houseConfused

ClaudiaNaughton · 12/09/2017 19:40

She's a nurse. Surgeon is eye candy.

scrabbler3 · 12/09/2017 20:00

There were a few minor characters who may be relevant; the taxi driver, the canoeist, the black girl in the classroom who kept giving Luke hard stares.

I thought that the discrepancies re her clothes and the changing hairstyles in the flashbacks were relevant, maybe showing that her memories were not reliable/differed from his. The Affair used similar techniques, even showing left-handed characters using their right hands in flashbacks depending on who was reminiscing, as well as more obvious stuff like different outfits.

Clawdy · 12/09/2017 21:00

The sister is in Safe House, which is on at the moment. Getting confusing, all these dramas.

LouiseBrooks · 12/09/2017 22:16

And how could she leave a message on his FB page unless they had already friended each other?
