I'm sure there are many planning to watch this tonight but I can't see a thread, apologies if there is one.

Looks promising with good acting stock. I'm already worried about the implications for real life reporting and conviction rates if the female is lying. Got a feeling it won't be that black and white though.

Facebook page: Surgeon knows the sister well, so maybe they have all met at parties in the past. They certainly seemed to know each other in that first scene when surgeon is dropping son off at school and she makes a comment to him about teenagers...

Taxi Driver - we did see his face when he turned round and said something along the lines of 'have a nice evening, love'.

Possibly the taxi driver came to pick him up, by which time she was dressed again, but then he came back later? Hence why wine glasses have been moved?

I'm keeping an open mind on this one and am looking forward to next week. Nice to have a good 6-parter to get your teeth into.

Now........never seen that taxi driver before in my life, and I live here Wink Also she could have walked to the pier from her home on the seafront...........cos I know where it is! See its all spoiling it for me!

STRONGandSTABLE · 13/09/2017 08:46

I don't remember the canoeist - when did that bit happen?

Robinkitty · 13/09/2017 09:27

Yes it could have been the son, she would have let him in if he turned up looking for his dad. Taxi driver is a suspect for me but I can't see why she would let him in unless if he turned up to pick up the surgeon after he left ( waiting outside knowing the surgeon had left listening to the taxi radio, could have explained why there was such a long wait as he was meant to be on call but was actually outside lurking)
Perhaps the son killed his mother, he doesn't like the idea of his dad meeting someone...

Wondermoomin · 13/09/2017 10:59

Canoeist was right at the start but I don't think there's anything there. I think it was just for the purpose of helping to paint her character.

She lifted her canoe onto a rack, he said something like "nicely done" and she said something like "yes I can start my car all by myself as well". Then they had very brief small talk about their hobby.

FeralBeryl · 13/09/2017 15:09

Mirage he is Warren Brown, he was in Luther and Batman, he's in loads. Fab actor.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/09/2017 22:17

Don't think it's anything to do with taxi man

He's been married for years

Or is that a red herring .....

RubyRed2017 · 14/09/2017 10:11

I wanted to like this but can't really see where its going or what the plot development might be.
there are only 2 possible answers to the "mystery" ie did he/didn't he rape her. A solution where she was found to be lying would be hard to stomach because of the potential effect on real-life victims.
It seems really far-fetched that someone else than him would turn up when she was out cold and rape her?

barrygibbscheekbones · 14/09/2017 22:45

Just watched this, looks good so far.

The marshes at the beginning and end aren't Tollesbury, but the Medway marshes in the Medway estuary. In Kent, not far from Deal. They make such a beautiful, distinctive pattern.

STRONGandSTABLE · 14/09/2017 23:52

Robinkitty - your theory (about the son) would make the DNA evidence against the dad work too.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/09/2017 08:30

It's not the taxi driver- JF being interviewed just now on the radio and let slip.

southeastdweller · 15/09/2017 08:35

Of course it would be far-fetched if it turns out she was raped by someone else but I don't expect anything else in an ITV prime time drama!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/09/2017 08:39

I'm usually disappointed with ITV dramas tbh. They're overly long and unbelievable Grin

BuzzKillington · 15/09/2017 15:16

Just watched it. It was a bit draft.

The woman seems unhinged.

I also thought her sister's house was a bit of a dive Blush, but assumed her husband is SAH so they don't have much money coming in.

Graphista · 16/09/2017 11:28

Just watched last night. Know the area as used to live there.

I really hope she's not the liar - as pp have said its hard enough to get rapists convicted as it is.

Think his wife's suicide will be significant - don't think he killed her think she discovered he was rapist and couldn't live with that but also couldn't prove?

Love all the actors especially JF.

salsmum · 17/09/2017 01:44

I must admit when she invited him in to use her phone when calling for a cab I was shouting at the to 'call on her mobile' she also left the restaurant with a long red scarf on which she wasn't wearing previously so annoying inconsistencies there but quite looking forward to seeing how this all unfolds.

Papafran · 17/09/2017 15:15

I quite liked it. Didn't notice her sister's house was a hovel. But the sister is a nurse, not a surgeon anyway.

Think the sister/ex affair is a bit unrealistic but maybe it adds something to the plot later on.

PhelanGood · 17/09/2017 20:53

I tried to watch this, but was bored after ten minutes. Would it be worth me giving it another try? Desperate for new stuff to watch /look forward to!

midsomermurderess · 17/09/2017 21:05

We don't have coroners in Scotland. That sort of sloppiness irritates me.

BadHairDay0 · 18/09/2017 08:23

Did anyone else notice the colour palette of the whole episode? I thought the colours were beautiful and almost without exception every scene had blue and yellow in it. Blue walls, blue clothes, blue backgrounds, yellow flowers, yellow vases, yellow highlights here and there. Watch out for it next episode! - once I'd noticed it, I couldn't see anything else!

SteamingPistons · 18/09/2017 08:40

I really enjoyed Liar, got me thinking for ages afterwards. I really can't tell who is lying at this point! Can't wait for tonight's episode

PhelanGood · 18/09/2017 09:37

@Steamingpistons you've sold it to me!

Graphista · 18/09/2017 13:19

Misnomer it's set in Kent not Scotland. Her ex that's a copper stated he worked for Dover & Folkestone force.

cudeatahorse · 18/09/2017 20:30

I love Ioan Gruffydd

Didn't he have a bit part in Titanic?
The lifeboat at the end Turn it around!

cudeatahorse · 18/09/2017 20:33

I see it was him, in Titanic. A much younger him.
