What are people's opinions on the new Bake Off so far? And yes, I know we're only a few minutes in. IMO the new presenters feel a bit like they're trying a little too hard to be Mel and Sue.

Opinions?

She must be shagging Paul to have got this far

Why be so bitchy? I agree she should have gone but there's no need to be nasty.

TheQueenOfWands · 18/10/2017 08:42

Meh.

I thought it was fixed when Julia went instead of the Parchment Princess.

And again when Yan went.

Last night's proves it.

The final is going to be a massively uneven competition. Either 2 good bakers and one bad, or 2 bad and have a clear winner before the show even starts.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/10/2017 09:52

I think you may be right Queen

I couldn't believe that anyone could serve baking parchment and not get the boot!

What next?

Cockroach crumble?

Rats in the jelly she likes making so much? (Her last showstopper could have been designed by a colour-blind 10 year-old).

No WAY should Liam have gone.

Backingvocals · 18/10/2017 09:55

I think in a way it proves it's not fixed. Liam is brilliant, TV gold and the one everyone loves. I don't even care about it now he's not in it. So if they had an eye to ratings he would have stayed in until the final.

I see that he had a really bad week and they do always say it's about the week not what's gone before. So on that basis he probably had the worst week of them all. But he is just so brilliant and so young. I think he's got a great future in front of him anyway.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2017 10:03

Aaaah I knew you'd all be peed off on here, me too Grin Sad for Liam But the heat made his spun sugar go all limp! I didn't think he'd get SB but I'm surprised he's gone considering that Kate has been off for weeks.

Stacey was soooo pleased to get SB she won't win though.

I love Noel now! His singing in clanger lingo and once again taking the mick out of Paul's man tan was soooo funny.

trevortrevorslattery · 18/10/2017 10:09

I am actually warming to Stacey now the last couple of weeks. I like the way she's not all fake nicey nicey with the other contestants pretending to be bezzie mates with them.

However what a TRAVESTY for Liam getting the boot. I don't mind Kate but her show stopper was a fucking joke and her clangers had been on the floor! I was actually shocked I should probably get out more

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/10/2017 10:16

don't mind Kate but her show stopper was a fucking joke

I agree - I felt embarrassed for her. It was like she hadn't even tried.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2017 10:22

Kate seems to ignore the time that they are given; she made too many layers for her showstopper so had no time to decorate it, it was crackers !!!! Her accent is too strong for me to understand sometimes!

Allthebestnamesareused · 18/10/2017 10:30

Nooooooooo

Not Liam

It was like kicking a puppy!

InsomniacAnonymous · 18/10/2017 11:24

Backingvocals "I think in a way it proves it's not fixed. Liam is brilliant, TV gold and the one everyone loves. I don't even care about it now he's not in it. So if they had an eye to ratings he would have stayed in until the final."

Wasn't this series filmed months ago, before it started being broadcast? I thought so, therefore there would be no way of knowing who is "good for ratings" and to keep them in because of that. Everyone involved is sworn to secrecy, as they already know who won.

mydogisthebest · 18/10/2017 11:55

Last night was a joke. No way should Liam have gone. Yes, he didn't do that well but neither did Kate and her showstopper just consisted of boring flat cakes that looked like boxes. Really she should have gone a couple of weeks ago.

Plus Stacey being star baker!! No way did she deserve that and Prue made it sound as though they only gave it to her because she so desperately wanted it.

There is a rumour that Stacey is the winner and I really hope that is not true.

Not sure I want to watch it any more now. Not keen on the ones left - Stacey drives me mad and doesn't deserve to be there still. Kate doesn't deserve to be there. Sophie is boring and Stephen is just smug

bonfireheart · 18/10/2017 12:57

I feel like I need to rewatch the series from the beginning to see what I missed about Stacey and Kate. Can't remember Kate getting the level of praise liam has for his skills and flavours. Stacey's always looks like a child made it.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/10/2017 12:57

There is a rumour that Stacey is the winner

What sort of sick person would start a rumour like that?

TiramisuQueenoftheFaeries · 18/10/2017 13:11

I was gutted for Liam last night, but on reflection this morning I don't think he really needed to win. He's so young, already so talented and has bags of potential - and I'm not sure winning's done much for most of the previous lot, excepting Nadiya. He's got the same kind of engaging charm as she does IMO, so I bet he'll make out fine in life.

I do think Kate should have gone (and Stacey should have gone last week, not Yan) but strictly on performance this week, I can see why Prue and Paul could have felt he had to be the one, even though both of them were clearly fond of him.

On the plus side, like a PP I now don't care about anyone left in, which will at least make watching the semi and the final a stress-free experience. Stephen is annoying, but it's tempered for me by the fact that the inside of his head is clearly not a very happy place.

Ceto · 18/10/2017 14:18

I can't see how Liam had a really bad week, Backing. He was one of the best, if not the best in the first round, where Kate had a disaster; yes, he came last in the second but, judging by the comments, Kate wasn't really any better than him in the final round.

bibliomania · 18/10/2017 14:38

Also sad about Liam. His presence really lifted the whole thing - the judges and presenters seemed to enjoy interacting with him so much.

I don't have a problem with Stacey, but she seems to get a disproportionate amount of airtime compared to the other contestants. She's always yakking away on camera.

Agree with Ceto that we can't really second-guess the judges as we don't get to taste the results.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/10/2017 14:39

On the plus side, from last night - I have looked up a recipe for rum nicky pie, and it looks utterly delicious. I might make one at Christmas - as they were saying last night, the filling smelled really festive, and it would be something a bit different.

I wonder if it would freeze?

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/10/2017 14:47

Kate should have gone as she should have gone last week too. I can understand why Liam went this week out of the remaining 4 but I think it's a shame. I haven't warmed to Sophie or Stephen so that leaves me with Stacey. It's funny becasue the quality of the whole group seemed really good early on but they don't seem as good as usual at this stage. I wonder if the challenges are harder/they are given less time?

AndroidsConundrum · 18/10/2017 14:53

Stephen is so funny, why doesn't anyone like him?

Sandi: I mean, it's an alcoholic fruit tart with a lattice on top
Stephen: Sounds like the perfect drag queen.

spiderlight · 18/10/2017 14:55

Liam should not have gone! Even my 10-year-old DS was outraged.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2017 15:00

SDTG I'm sure it would freeze. We eat Xmas puddings that have been frozen for 2 years and their fine! They did sound nice.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2017 15:02

sorry 'they're Grin

buggerthebotox · 18/10/2017 15:04

Well, I'm glad Liam' s gone. I found him annoying and immature. . I know he's only 19, but he behaves more like a 10 year old imho. That spun sugar creation was a mistake-he should have seen that coming.

As for the others-meh. I think Steve will win.

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2017 15:25

I hope that Sophie wins. It better not be Stacey, there's something off about her I can't quite describe what it is.

I don't know any 19 yr old males who can bake like Liam can. He'll improve with age.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/10/2017 15:47

I think the Rum Nicky tart would freeze well. I too am thinking of something similar for Christmas Day pudding with a really nice vanilla ice cream.
