What are people's opinions on the new Bake Off so far? And yes, I know we're only a few minutes in. IMO the new presenters feel a bit like they're trying a little too hard to be Mel and Sue.

Opinions?

It’s worth going to Lisbon for the Pasteis de Nata alone. They taste different there somehow (though there is a brilliant Portugueses bakery in Cardiff that does amazing ones).

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2017 12:06

There are also 2 great Portuguese bakeries in Portobello Rd. they do them Grin

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/10/2017 12:48

I wasn't surprised Julia went but Stacey was lucky. Think she and Kate need to claw back some praise next week.
Stephen's struggled a bit too.
Liam did very well after last week's wobble.

SarahH12 · 04/10/2017 13:09

Can you buy them in Porto? DP and I are off there in a few weeks and would love to try them!

I wish Yan would shut up about the science. I'm a scientist and all of my colleagues are scientists and she just really irks us. I don't know why. I think last year with the architect it was fine as he was just being an architect. But she's just fucking irritating.

I think Julia was cheated. Yes she had a bad week but Stacey was worse. I also found it interesting that they all help each other except for Stacey, she doesn't help and is never helped. Seems she's really on the outskirts of the group but it's no wonder given how she comes across - although that could just be editing.

Yes!! Completely agree. It's so overkill now. she's annoying!!

squoosh · 04/10/2017 13:24

Julia was my joint fave along with the Liverpudlian woman whose name escapes me! I've no time for Stacey or the youngish blonde bloke with the underbite. (I'm really poor on the contestants names this year)

Don't think it's a great GBBO year though. And Sandi is just dead wood as far as I'm concerned.

squoosh · 04/10/2017 13:26

Portugese custard tarts are one of my favourite sweet things ever though so I was salivating at the sight of them last night.

user1495451339 · 04/10/2017 13:26

Poor Julia, I thought she was good. I also can't believe she is only 21 as she seems so much more mature, though she does look young.

At the end of the day the candidates are just normal people who love cooking so I think it must be hard to know how to come across on camera. I would probably hide every time it came near me!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/10/2017 14:08

Hadn't seen a quick vacuum marinator (?) like Yan used, admittedly it didn't much help in the end if Prue said the chicken was too dry.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 04/10/2017 15:02

I love the new line up, was tiring of mel and sue. Favourite contestants this year are Sophie, Yan and Julia. Stephen, Stacey and Liam all irk me a little.

BiglyBadgers · 04/10/2017 18:20

For all of us who go a bit maternal for Liam Grin

Imagine How Proud You'd Be If Liam From "Bake Off" Was Your Son

Just watched on 4/7 very sad to see Julia go loved her.

Love Liam glad he got Star baker.

Agree re Stacey - she fluked it.

PurplePillowCase · 04/10/2017 21:32

julia's snail bread penis was epic

Backingvocals · 06/10/2017 19:47

Quick shout out for the make up artists on Extra Slice. They always make the contestants look amazing - all of them. Julia looks stunning.

JemimaLovesHamble · 06/10/2017 20:20

I'm really loving Noel and Sandi. I'd like to see a bit more of them actually and a bit less of Prue and Paul...

AethelflaedsWhiteGoose · 06/10/2017 20:32

I'm sorry to see Julia go, she's a real character and very genuine unlike Stacy.
The new line up is much better than I anticipated. I really like Noel and Sandi, think they are getting better each week.

Barbaro · 07/10/2017 09:46

Love bake off as usual. Hoping Liam wins and think he will.

NancyDonahue · 07/10/2017 14:21

We think Julia looks a bit like Anna Chlumsky

Phil Wang on Extra Slice was very funny. I’d like to have him on every week!

HandbagCrazy · 07/10/2017 20:30

I love this new series. Could remove Sandi and Paul completely though and I wouldn't notice.

Absolutely love Noel, I think it's his eccentric style in the middle of the Cath Kidston-esque kitchen and the fact that he genuinely seems invested in what the contestants are doing.

No idea who I want to win, only know it's definitely not Steven, I can't take to him. Maybe Liam as he seems so nice.

HashtagTired · 07/10/2017 20:34

Stacy needs to go. How is she still there? I can’t warm to her at all

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 07/10/2017 20:36

Gutted for Julia.

She quit her job for the show too.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/10/2017 20:41

Yes I read that about Julia quitting her job for the show. Not a brilliant idea.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/10/2017 20:46

I would also like to see both Steven and Stacey out.

Steven is all style over substance and Stacey is just . . . charisn'tmatic, for want of a better term.

I would like to see Liam win, but I think it will be Sophie.

southeastdweller · 08/10/2017 09:39

What a bloody travesty that Stacey didn't go this week! Her first pie was boring, the tarts looked awful and so did her show-stopper (the one she'd left baking parchment in). Haven't liked her anyway since she made a bitchy comment the other week about Liam thinking he was going to win that episode.
