That wasn't really rum he was drinking, it was his wildfire cocktail.

aayla · 22/08/2017 12:59

I loved the Hound saying to Tormund something along the lines of, 'You are with Brienne of Tarth?' They sounded like sixth formers!

MarvellousMonsters · 22/08/2017 13:03

Ayala, and Tormund 'well, no, not yet, but hopefully...' like a love struck teen. Grin

aayla · 22/08/2017 13:05

Ah! I love those two.

Snapespeare · 22/08/2017 13:14

brief pop in - Gilly established Rhaegars marriage was annulled in Dorne, not who he subsequently married. I know its almost Canon that it was Lyanna Stark, but i don't trust this at all. I'm also a huge fan of the Meera Reed Jons twin theory.

Annnnnnd apparently longclaw blinked when Jon grabbed its helm from ice-puddle to pull himself out of the foot deep water...

I like Ice Jon Snow riding Ice dragon.

Puffpaw · 22/08/2017 13:17

Are the white walkers a metaphor for artificial intelligence or androids? Or a virus? So they don't have a motive (neither dies a virus) other than replication. They don't seem able to procreate so need humans to breed for them. Although that makes them more like a parasite.
The symbols in the cave are significant I think, remember the body parts spread out in a wheel shape earlier.
As I said before I'm sure Arya is the lone wolf and Sansa will kill her with the cunning she has learnt. Cunning is more important than skillz

Anatidae · 22/08/2017 13:18

Metaphor for climate change I think.

People screaming that something is going to happen and half the population going 'nope, utter nonsense' as the world burns around them.

Puffpaw · 22/08/2017 13:28

Also why are there no female white walkers? And do dragons have a m/f sex? Is it possible to have ice dragon eggs?!
Are women fire and men ice?

Abra1d · 22/08/2017 13:33

I can't weep to much for the dragon. They have never been given particularly strong personalities.

The Hound was an idiot, throwing that rock.

ElenaGreco123 · 22/08/2017 13:35

Someone pointed it out that the Nights king was created by the arrow-shaped mountain in the show. I wonder if it is the weirwood grove in the books where the Nights Watch take their oaths.

Also people speculate about the Nights King' s ice spear. But I always thought it is weirwood spears / arrows that are dangerous for dragons. Am I making this up? Or thinking of Bloodraven's archers?

ElenaGreco123 · 22/08/2017 13:36

Puffpaw The Others only took Craster's sons, not his daughters. Confused

missanony · 22/08/2017 13:37

Just to buck the trend, I'm really enjoying this series! I think it helps to have not read the books so you just can't compare it.

Jon getting out of the ice water is an accurate reenactment of me getting out of a swimming pool.

KentMum2008 · 22/08/2017 13:47

I really like the Meera/Jon twin theory as well. According to Awoiaf they were both born in 283ac although their appearance in the books is quite different. As much as they like to divert from the story in the show, I don't think they can write a secret twin in unless that's what GRRM had planned in the books. But it's entirely possible. Howland reed was the other person at the tower of Joy with Ned when Lyanna gave birth to Jon so if there was a twin, Howland could have taken her home.

I always wonder about the logistics of bringing a newborn home from war. Who would have fed him? Did they have a wet nurse that travelled everywhere? It's a long old journey from Dorne to Winterfell and no time travelling dragons to instantly transport Ned and the baby back!

TheHiphopopotamus · 22/08/2017 13:50

How would Howland Reed have managed to pass Meera off as his though?

I'd assume if he told everyone the same thing Ned did about Jon, she'd have a surname that indicated she was illegitimate?

Puffpaw · 22/08/2017 13:53

elena exactly, why?! Why only male white walkers? Bizarre. Or maybe we have not seen any yet, maybe cersei will become a female white walker, i'd like to see that!

KentMum2008 · 22/08/2017 13:55

Not sure about that part! Maybe his wife was in on it 🙈

ElenaGreco123 · 22/08/2017 13:59

In the books the Nights King used to be the Lord Commander of the Nights Watch who was seduced by a female white walker. Or at least a woman with very blue eyes....

Puffpaw · 22/08/2017 14:50

elena what are you suggesting? Jon and Sansa in history repeating itself? Interesting the books have female ww

OlennasWimple · 22/08/2017 14:54

The Reeds are a bit of a law unto themselves, so if Howland and Mrs Reed decided to pass off Meera as their own, the outside world wouldn't know enough about it to question it.

I don't think that there is enough time left in the series, though, for Jon to find out about his parentage AND have a secret twin

Going back a few pages, but so it was Nymeria then. Can't believe that that is the end though. Have a feeling at some point Arya will find herself in trouble outside of Winterfell, and in the nick of time the beast that is a wolf, only dire, will come to her rescue.

AdalindSchade · 22/08/2017 15:02

Craster wasn't the king beyond the wall that was mance rayder

MarvellousMonsters · 22/08/2017 15:16

JAPAB, I absolutely agree! I think Nymeria will show up and help Arya at some point, I just hope it won't be a big noble sacrifice ending in a dead direwolf. I also like to think that Nymeria and her pack tracked Arya home to Winterfell to make sure she got home safe.

Puffpaw · 22/08/2017 15:22

No way, Ayra is a walking dead woman and nymeria will desert her as she deserted nymeria. The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

Puffpaw · 22/08/2017 15:24

Obv that is my opinion I have no idea what happens, but you can't succeed on your own and arya has chosen a lonely path.

MarvellousMonsters · 22/08/2017 15:35

Puff paw, I think Arya found herself on a lonely path, and because she's a fighter and survivor she succeeded so far. But she returned to her 'pack' once she found out she still had one, she was a lone wolf, but this was partly because she believed everyone else to be dead. ^

But we'll have to wait and see..... Shock
