Come and discuss the fifth episode in the penultimate series, airing August 21ST at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6. This is the penultimate episode this series!!

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones. The problem with using ASOIAF wiki is that it relates to the books only. The Brotherhood in the books and the Brotherhood in the show have gone down totally different routes as the show omitted Lady Stoneheart.

SarfEast1cated · 22/08/2017 09:34

I wondered why no-one is busy knocking up some dragon armour for the other two dragons....

aayla · 22/08/2017 09:35

Ah that's why - of course. They all kind of shrugged that off with poor Gendry.

For the tv series 👍🏻

honeyroar · 22/08/2017 09:36

Marvellousmonsters I meant the living breathing underwater, like Jon and Jaime.. But if they can breathe underwater, why were they "worried" about stepping onto the thin ice and falling in..?

aayla · 22/08/2017 09:38

Perhaps being wet would make them freeze?

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 22/08/2017 09:40

I thought the dead would be like the dead in Pirates of the Caribbbean and would just be able to walk along the bottom of the lake and up the island.

SarfEast1cated · 22/08/2017 09:45

Isn't it that they can't cross water? Which is why they can't just sneak around the edges of the wall?

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 22/08/2017 09:48

It was kind of all the hounds fault... the rest showed great restraint by not saying 'ffs, what did you do that for?!'

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 22/08/2017 09:49

All that was missing was Gandalf, shouting "Fool of a Took Clegane!"

MarvellousMonsters · 22/08/2017 10:00

Oh Honeyroar, I see. Yes, Jon, Jaime & Bron all seem to have insane swimming/breath-hold skillz.

honeyroar · 22/08/2017 10:01

But then how did they get the chains round the dragon to pull him out if they can't do water? And if they can go underwater, why didn't they do that to get at Jon and team? It didn't compute for me that one minute they were held off by the water, the next they were in it dragging out a dragon..

I'm still feeling irritated by that episode, it's making me nervous that after all these years of build up, the ending is going to be flat. I've read the books, but always preferred the series until this one. Unless there are some big twists, it's not oDont well.

honeyroar · 22/08/2017 10:02

Should say not doing well.

Soubriquet · 22/08/2017 10:04

One thing I still wish I knew the answer for

What has happened to craster's baby boys?

We see the night king touch him and turn his eyes blue but we never see any children. Do they stay babies? Grow up to become henchmen? What?

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 22/08/2017 10:07

But Jon is an ice fire ice ice fire ice something 'elemental' Wight to he can survive a plunge into freezing cold water in full furs and stay underweater for ages and get out and then survive a horse-ride in dripping wet freezing furs without dying of hyperthermia (or is it the other way round). He has serious plot-armour!

Jon likes cold, Dany likes fire. They are going to have some really bad arguments about what togg duvet to get and what setting to put the thermostat to if they ever do get together.

I imagine that there is a happy village of blue-eyed babies toddlers and older children which we will see at some point. There's probably a school too.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 22/08/2017 10:37

I think the Craster babies grow up into White Walkers. Poor little things! I watched the episode with the baby being exposed when DS was a newborn and cried my eyes out at the thought of a baby being left to freeze/be turned into a WW.

coriliavijvaad · 22/08/2017 10:46

How long was Craster "king beyond the wall" for? How old would the oldest mini-White-Walker be, assuming that Craster was their only source of babies?

Anatidae · 22/08/2017 10:52

Why is no one wearing a hat?? This has been driving me insane since series one. PUT A FUCKING HAT ON FOR FUCKS SAKE ITS FUCKING FREEZING!

Although actually being from Yorkshire and seeing how I used to go out in the snow for nights out clad in wisps of stuff... maybe not

Also: LOVED the chaps all grumpily setting off to capture a wight. That had some fantastic dialogue and it should have been stretched over a few episodes.

I also confess to a huge hound crush and ferverently hope tormund gets his girl :)

BrieAndChilli · 22/08/2017 10:56

I can understand why they have started cutting out the travelling times
In the first few series there were loads and loads of characters in lots of different places so while one story was going on others were travelling so would show you a couple of minutes of the travelling just to remind us of that story arc

Now though there are less characters and most of them are in only one or two different places now so to put emphasis on the travelling would slow the story right down

But do agree that all the travelling involved with gendry/ravens/dragons would have taken longer than a night.

I expected more emotion from Dany when the dragon died - a wail or something

I can't stand the Jon/Dany thing, I know in westeros incest has been accepted in the past but the beginning made such a big thing of having to hide the incest between Jamie and Cersei it just seems too nasty for the two 'pure, honourable' characters to get involved in.

What is the night kings end game? He's got the whole of the north beyond the wall, doesn't seem to need food etc and no ones is going to bother going past the wall to start a war if they don't have to. Is it just that he wants all the power??
I haven't read the books so can't comment on the direction the story has taken

BrieAndChilli · 22/08/2017 10:57

Ooh maybe westeros will fall and come under the control of the night king, a new wall will be constructed making essos the new westeros and the remaining westerosrians will become the new windings! The end

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 22/08/2017 11:01

Gendry was wearing a hat. He gets 100 bonus points and the iron throne just for having some common sense. However, they all get deducted for that stupid hammer thing.

Anatidae · 22/08/2017 11:01

I don't think it's been explained yet what the nights king actually wants. He was created by the children of the forest to wipe out the first men but then they seem to have lost control of him. We don't know his end game yet I think?
I'm wondering if there will be some philosophical point about life/death/balance/seasons etc at the end of it all

Anatidae · 22/08/2017 11:02

The hammer is ridiculous. This is an actual war hammer.
Someone has been playing too much Warhammer :)
