I thought we could do with a thread for those of us who have read all the spoilers for the full season.

Nothing is not allowed.

HaveToBeSure my money is on either Tyrion or Arya being the betrayal for love. I'm 50:50 torn between the two of them.

HaveToBeSure · 29/08/2017 14:06

What makes you think Arya, out of interest? She has no connection to Dany yet...

AryaUnderfoot · 29/08/2017 14:22

HaveToBeSure

It's just a hunch and a pulling together of lots of show and book theories and 'feelings' about Arya and her purpose. Things such as:

  • In GRRM's original 1993 outline, he had a 'love-triangle' between Tyrion/Arya/Jon. I can see that turning into Dany/Jon/Arya as a sort of rivalry. Jon and Arya were always close and always thinking about each other. The idea of anyone threatening Jon is anathema to Arya and I can see Jon/Dany tension when they find out about his Targ ancestry.
  • There is a strong connection between the Faceless Men, Iron Bank and Citadel in the books. In particular, the Faceless Men may have an underlying desire to destroy the dragon lords as the last remnants of the old Valyrian freehold. Although Dany is technically against slavery, her vision of break the wheel seems to be nothing more than an absolute monarchy. Certainly, Slaver's Bay ended up worse on her departure than on her arrival. I could see the Faceless Men using Arya as a 'hit' on Dany.
  • Jaqen gave Arya a 'knowing' look when she left the House of B&W at the end of Season 6. He knew she was going home with all the skills of a faceless man but far too much attachment to Arya Stark to become no-one. I cannot see the most notorious group of assassins in the known world just allowing her to walk away without having some purpose for her. Either that, or D&D really are useless writers and think the audience are dumb (very possible).
  • D&D have said that the final 'holy shit' moment GRRM told them about would happen right at the end of season 8. Arya killing Daenerys just as she seems to have got her act together would definitely be a 'holy shit' moment.

Anyway, I'm probably wrong but I like the idea.

CaptainWarbeck · 30/08/2017 00:17

In those s8 'leaks', what happened to the Night King and his army? Did they just retreat once they lost their wight dragon? Seems a bit implausible since they were matching before they even had him.

CaptainWarbeck · 30/08/2017 00:18

*marching

Wormulonian · 30/08/2017 09:09

I thought Tyrion was looking worried outside the bedroom door because if John and Dany are together then she will listen to John(she took his advice to travel on the ship rather by Dragon as Ser Jorah advised) and Tyrion may be displaced as the trusted advisor. Also John is like Ned - too "honorable" to do the best rather than than the "right "thing.

AryaUnderfoot · 30/08/2017 09:15

Captain I noticed that about the Night King in the leaks. One minute he's fighting and the next minute the army of the dead are miraculously defeated.

Maybe he dies offscreen like Stannis, Blackfish, Olenna, Tyene, Ellaria, Septa Unella, Tormund, Beric, Thoros, the Waif.

Quite a lot of important characters die offscreen come to think of it.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 30/08/2017 10:04

Well if one of the leaks is to be believed, one of the sand snakes doesn't die, and yet doesn't reappear either until literally the final scene Grin

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 30/08/2017 10:06

Ah it was (had to check) Tyene who was poisoned, who is the same sand snake that Bronn had a thing for...

AryaUnderfoot · 30/08/2017 10:19

Yes, it was Tyene that was 'Bad Pussy'. Urghh, that never fails to grate on me.

There is mention in the show of Oberyn having 8 children in an earlier season. Maybe Bronn marries one of the other Sand Fakes - Elia or Obella?

I really hope those leaks are fake.

CaptainWarbeck · 30/08/2017 15:04

I think the leaks are fake. There's a reddit explaining all the holes in them.

I don't believe that is the end arc for Dany, at least not how GRRM would have written her.

CaptainWarbeck · 30/08/2017 15:05

why the leaks are probably fake

BlueKarou · 30/08/2017 18:00

Reading the season 8 leaks, and thinking of the quality of writing this season I almost fell for them. I don't agree with all of the reasons why they're probably fake, (like why wouldn't Euron take the throne post-Cersei? Who else is there to contest it?) but I'm definitely not pinning any hopes on them being true.

AryaUnderfoot · 30/08/2017 18:20

Agreed. Some of the reasons given for them being fake applied to last year's leaks as well. For example, the leaker couldn't get names right from one scene to another. I think he even got some names completely wrong - stuff like confusing Jorah with Jeor and switching Thoros dying with Beric. He admitted he didn't know the show very well.

BlueKarou · 30/08/2017 18:25

In episode 8 they say Theon where they mean someone else, but it's plausible that they've just mistyped - it's like a game of Chinese Whispers.

The completely unexplained timescale is certainly fitting with the latest season!

AryaUnderfoot · 30/08/2017 18:35

To me the only thing that is really convincing is Euron being left as the final human villain at the end. I'm dead certain that's going to be the case in the books.

whyhastherumgone · 30/08/2017 22:47

New to this thread but just read the season eight leaks and PLEASE DON'T BE TRUE. As an avid fan of both the books and the TV show it would be awful to see such strong developed characters die in such underwhelming ways ....but then I guess Game of Thrones [before the source material ran out] is always good at doing what you least expect...
so right now we're expecting both Dany and Jon to go out in a blaze of glory if they don't make it, so part of me wonders if this could be true :( I won't be satisfied with that ending though - wildfyre feels too repetitive as well, although I guess one of the themes in GOT is the same mistakes being repeated over and over in the quest for power...rambling now!

AryaUnderfoot · 31/08/2017 08:15

mangomay Ha! Looks like the bed of blood scene was cut from episode 7! It was Cersei...

KentMum2008 · 31/08/2017 08:17

Oooh curious! I wonder why?!

KentMum2008 · 31/08/2017 08:29

I've just watched that, verrrry interesting. So the scene with Sansa and Bran that was cut puts paid to the idea that Sansa and Arya knew LF was playing them all along. She really was stupid enough to believe him all along. Gods be good, does that girl never learn? Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 31/08/2017 08:39

I think they cut that scene to allow for maximum fan speculation for a year!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 31/08/2017 08:45

I am bereft. I've re-read AFOC and ADWD and all the sample chapters from WOW and now I've got nothing! Apart from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Has the World of Ice and Fire been published yet? I was secretly hoping for a big WoW reveal just after season 7 finished, but nope. Do you think perhaps he's working on both WoW and ADoS to ensure that it all links up and any foreshadowing is done properly? Maybe he'll deliver both at once (although I doubt they will be released together - wouldn't make as much money that way!).

AryaUnderfoot · 31/08/2017 08:52

TooExtra what did you think of The Forsaken chapter from Winds? I found it really disturbing. It seems to foreshadow a Euron/Dany marriage. I can see it happening in the short term in the books TBH - he is definitely Dany's type given her attraction to Daario.

The Dunk and Egg stories are a good read (look out for Dunk's descendants in AFFC and ADWD) and also the World of Ice and Fire gives good background to the history of Westeros.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 31/08/2017 09:21

Do you think the tall woman with white fire is Dany? I can't think who else it would be, though! Maybe that's one future - the future where everything goes to shit. The bit that disturbs me is the repeated reference to dwarfs cavorting for his pleasure - sounds suspiciously like Tyrion and Penny enslaved again.

It really does cast Euron as the great enemy, doesn't it, but the show bears zero resemblance to that! And where are the Others in this vision of doom?

Who do you reckon the dark flame is in Quaithe's prophecy? Moqorro?

AryaUnderfoot · 31/08/2017 09:34

TooExtra yes, I think the woman in the books is going to be Dany. I personally think that it'll be Euron who gets hold of one of her dragons which will lead to the destruction/death of Drogon. I can see Rhaegal being the only dragon left alive in the books - under the control of Jon. What has me utterly convinced Euron is going to have some form of marriage to Dany is the line from the 'bride of fire' part of the HOTU visions:

A corpse stood at the prow of a ship, eyes bright in his dead face, grey lips smiling sadly.

That sounds very much like Damphair tied to the fron of Silence.

The chapter really implies that Damphair was molested by Euron as a boy doesn't it?

The show has really played down Euron's evilness. I wonder if they're trying to save it as some sort of 'big reveal' for season 8.

Yes, I think 'dark flame' is Moqorro, but I don't know what his significance is yet...
