Come back Lady Stoneheart - all is forgiven!

GRRM illustrates so many times in the book how destructive and futile the pursuit of vengeance is. I think B&W missed that lesson. Giving Arya Lady Stoneheart's arc is a mistake in my opinion.

WeDoNotSow I think there'll be a zombie dragon in the show that causes havoc with the other dragons. In the book I think Euron will take on the same storyline with Dragonbinder (which I don't see any hints of in the show).

Yamayo · 20/07/2017 07:45

Sorry mental block. Drangonbinder?

AryaUnderfoot · 20/07/2017 08:20

IIRC, Euron has a 'magic horn' in the books called Dragonbinder. At the Kingsmoot on Old Wyk his servant blows the horn and ends up bleeding from the ears from the sound it makes (I think he ends up dead but I may be making that up).

I think he sends Victarion off with part of the iron fleet to go and seduce Dany on his behalf. Vic is then going to seduce her for himself. I think Yara has taken part of Vic's role in the books.

I need to go and re-read those chapters.

AryaUnderfoot · 20/07/2017 08:22

awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Dragonbinder

The image of Euron on this page is exactly how I imagine him to look. Seriously evil...

RJnomore1 · 20/07/2017 08:46

We refer to bran as shitstark because he's so tedious.

We have deadstark1, deadstark2, shitstark, stirrerstark and erm arya... we quite like her...

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 20/07/2017 09:56

My question is, if arya has been given lady stoneheart's arc, then what is arya's arc?

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 20/07/2017 09:58

PS does Cersei have the heart and stomach of a concrete elephant? Grin

HaveToBeSure · 20/07/2017 10:28

Prove it!

FadedRed · 20/07/2017 11:07

Another pondering: in regard to communications.
Jon gets a Raven from Cersei inviting him to bend the knee or take the consequences, but no one seems surprised that Cersei is the Queen, so do they know what happened to Tommen and half the population of Kings Landing? And do they know about Danerys' progress?
Jon is more concerned about the proximity of the wall and the White Walkers, Sansa about Cersei's plans to kill her enemies (although her speech about Cersei efficiency in doing so in inaccurate as she, Tyrion, Littlefinger, Varis etc are still alive). If they know that Dany is on Dragonstone, which is practically on KL's doorstep, then wouldn't they consider that Cersei would have enough on her plate at the moment to not have The North, at a thousand miles away, as her first priority?

AryaUnderfoot · 20/07/2017 11:31

My question is, if arya has been given lady stoneheart's arc, then what is arya's arc?

I think book Arya is going to kill book Stoneheart. I can see it having something to do with Gendry (who is still affiliated loosely with the remaining BwB in the book). Arya can still warg into Nymeria from Braavos in the books so she can see what's going on in the Riverlands. I think that's what will bring her back to Westeros.

She will finally see how destructive her pursuit of vengeance is, and will start her journey back to being a 'normal' functioning member of society who is not constantly living a lie.

It's just a theory of mine.

Whatever happens, it will be done in the books in a way that actually makes sense and doesn't involve a really badly acted, poorly scripted scene with Ed Sheeran!

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 20/07/2017 11:42

D'ya reckon ed has got copyright on his own name - maybe grrm will call his version of the rabbit sharing character ES!! Grin

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 20/07/2017 11:43

I like your theory btw

AcrossthePond55 · 20/07/2017 15:21

If I start reading the books now, will I just confuse myself and/or muddle up the story-lines in my head between the books and series?

(Serious question)

ElspethFlashman · 20/07/2017 15:31

Not for the first three books which are pretty much true to the show. They only start going off piste after that.

The first three books are BIG and will take you ages so you may as well start.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/07/2017 16:15

Thanks, Elspeth. I'll download them and get started.

DH is going camping for 11 days so you know what I'll be doing! I love reading and can easily spend the whole day with a book. This is going to be wonderful!

AryaUnderfoot · 20/07/2017 16:30

AcrossthePond if you are reading on Kindle/iBook then get ready with the highlight function.

Highlight everything said by:

Patch face
The Ghost of HighHeart
All of Dany's visions and the words in the House of the Undying
Everything said by Quaithe
Any words said by Mormont's raven other than "corn"
Bran's visions in his coma dream
Bran's visions during his coma

All great foreshadowing and include some 'holy shit' moments when you figure out what they mean.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 20/07/2017 16:38

Across, I read the whole series over something like ten days on holiday Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 20/07/2017 16:50

I'm starting a 'note' with those hints Arya.

AryaUnderfoot · 20/07/2017 16:55

That second line about Bran was supposed to be Bran's visions in the weirwood!

HaveToBeSure · 20/07/2017 17:33

Wouldn't a Blackadder style GoT comedy be awesome though!

Flasheart as Euron
Queenie as Cersei
Blackadder as Littlefinger?
Melchett as Grandmaester Pycelle
Bob as Arya
Brian Blessed as Robert Baratheon ("Slaaaaaags!")
Nursie as Old Nan
The Spanish Infanta as Olen's Tyrell
The Spanish Infanta's translator as the Grand Maester in the citadel that Sam's working with... they look strangely similar...

Any more? Feel free to include other characters from classic comedies i.e. Fawltey Towers, Farher Ted, Monty Python, Red Dwarf etc

AryaUnderfoot · 20/07/2017 17:42

There could be a tribute to Life of Brian:

What have the Targaryen's/wise masters ever done for us?

Or,

"When danger reared its ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled. Brave, brave, brave, brave Ser Jaime"

HaveToBeSure · 20/07/2017 18:02

Lol,

Or Stannis - "He's not the messiah he's a very naughty boy!"

"Casterly Rock!"
"Casterly Rock!"
"Casterly Rock!"
"It's only a model."

HaveToBeSure · 20/07/2017 18:03

Oh god that reminds me when someone caption GoT screenshots with Python quotes - it was hilarious, I'll see if I can find a link!

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 20/07/2017 18:06

Brian blessed should 900,000,000% (big enough? Grin ) have played King Robert. It was totally written for him!!
