I stayed up until it was 5 all in the final set and I though Shapovolov would get it so I went to bed because I thought it would go on for another set and I was really tired. Wish I had watched now as I was lying awake for ages anyway! Well done Sascha. Denis' mother is so intense, she lives every point.

Raahh · 13/08/2017 21:51

I've been watching the athletics. And, collectively, GB &N.I have not done very well, a least not where they expected to. We are in a bit of an 'interim' phase. I know that. People will be held accountable for this, and athletes will lose funding.
So, It got me thinking about Murray- and I 'm not picking on him, honest, but- people will ask questions about his year. And why wouldn't they? If he's good enough to be number 1, why isn't he winning? And he hasn't been ill all year.

And I've just cried because it's Brendan foster's last night commentatingSad.

and I'm sulking because I can' t 'watch' tonight's final. Sad

But if I give in, and let dh get the ridiculously overpriced package just so he can watch the football, and by extension , the tennis, - I would probably never get the telly to myself anyway!GrinGrin

And then i go to wondering if he BBC could ge Michael Johnson to take over from Andrew Castle. I don't care even if he doesn't know anything about tennis, not convinced Castle does Grin he's far nicer to listen to Grin.

I really need to fix my sticky 't'!!

And I'm very excited because Sascha has the first set.

Raahh luckily the tennis is mostly on at different times to the footie. DH has been threatening to get rid of Sky but funnily enough now that the Premiership has started he seems to have forgotten about it, strange that Grin

Raahh · 13/08/2017 22:17

We have a very basic Virgin package and dh watches things on the computer that I know nothing about.

His brother works for Sky, so gives him various freebies for big matches. We got free Sky sport last year when Vodafone messed up our mobile package. Tbh, it all gives me a headache Grin.

I want Sascha to win. Nothing to do with it meaning Rafa's number 1 is safe for a few days a least. Oh, no.

OP posts:
Raahh · 13/08/2017 22:23

Sascha wins!

I'd love him to win the US Open.

If I didn't want Rafa to win. Grin

Yay he did it! Looks so happy.

We (DH) has some other gizmo in kitchen that picks up other channels through wifi ( don't tell your BIL Grin) I haven't even used it but I think it has most satellite channels. I know Sky are cracking down on all these things.

I love being able to Sky+ things so I want to keep it. Apart from tennis I mostly just watch the terrestrial channels anyway.

MN app is doing my head in lately!

Raahh · 13/08/2017 22:36

oh, Bil doesn't care Grin he's well aware of dh's viewing habits Grin. I do think, that sport is an area that the general public are fleeced in, really, in this satellite era. And bil agrees really.

For years, my mother (who, for the record, has every sports package available)has been worried Wimbledon will end up on Sky. She pays a fortune. Because she is retired, and watches cricket, tennis, rugby... there should be a # name for what my mother is (she never used to be this obsessed) Maybe it's # bored ?? Grin

Grin Yes that's what happened in Ireland with the Gaelic football. Sky got the rights to the matches that are played on Saturdays while RTE get the Sunday ones. It's so unfair on people who don't have Sky, especially older people who can't just go to the pub if they don't have it. Anyway the Sky commentary on GAA games is shite. But it made me laugh when the hurling was shown on Sky and people in the UK hadn't a clue what it was!
Raahh · 13/08/2017 22:53

And - back to tennis- Zverev has qualified for the 'next gen' tournament today.

But - he's a PROPER contender. He's more than fucking#nextgen , surely? And he will qualify for the 'main event' the tour finals too. He's now ahead of Dom Thiem, I think, who was 3rd.

i love Sascha- he has lovely hair.

(Players like Zverev and Shapolapov make me feel better about Rafa getting older.)

But the likes of Nishikori must be pissed off Grin never liked him anyway

OP posts:
Raahh · 13/08/2017 23:01

Jane I used to get hurling and curling confused. Grin

I got quite into curling during the last winter Olympics. Mainly due to the very snazzy trousers that the Norwegian curling team wore. And then i realised I was not alone, and other people were as fascinated as me.Grin.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 13/08/2017 23:12

Don't care about Nishikori either. He's one of those players who is just there! It's great to see some brilliant young players coming up.

Hurling is amazing. So fast moving and the skill is unreal. Is curling the one that Marge Simpson started playing?Grin with the brushes?

I realised I had forgotten to give the dog his supper. Hope he doesn't think it's evening now and want to play.

I suppose I will have to go to bed at a reasonable time tonight now that Montreal is over. I need to get my act together before school starts back!

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2017 23:51

Hi ladies Smile

Really enjoyed Zverev's win today. If he keeps this up he's going to be some player, he really is. I didn't see much tennis this week at all as I was away.

Jane DH complains about the Sky coverage of hurling too. He's almost managed to convert me to liking hurling, I certainly admire the skill level of the players and it's very exciting to watch. I've no interest in Gaelic football though, probably because he hasn't either. It's all hurling where we live.

You mentioned Diclac gel for sore backs upthread, it's wonderful stuff. I'm not sure if you can get it in the UK but Voltarol is available there & is essentially the same thing.

JaneJeffer · 14/08/2017 00:18

Hi Drama hope you had a good break. I love the Gaelic football. DS2 plays both Gaelic and soccer so he's always either training or in a match. Keeps him busy because he is a bit hyper! For some reason I don't think Voltarol is as good, I don't know what the magic ingredient is in Diclac but it's good stuff.

Raahh · 14/08/2017 09:55

Morning all!

I have added period pain and a headache to my list of ailments Grin.

It's dd1's birthday on Wednesday, and way back in March , we booked train tickets to London for a day out - the tickets worked out at £70 for the 5 of us, so we thought it would be a nice , if long , day out . We're in Manchester, so it's 3 hours there, 2 coming back (always thought that funny). We will only have about 8 hours or so there, but the dc have never been and I've booked a river cruise, and a visit to the tower.

I'm just hoping I won't have keeled over by them GrinGrin

It's the only thing we were able to plan all summer, so it's bloody typical of me to be feeling crap, tbh. GrinSad.

Back to the tennis, this will be a great week , with Rafa and Roger battling for the top spot. Not that either are that fussed, I don't think. I read an article where Roger said he would rather get it at the the end of the year and go on holiday, than now- or it will be all people will want to talk about. And he doesn't want to talk about it Grin. It would mean more at the end of the year.

Unofficially, Rafa has the top spot on the live rankings, due to the points dropping from last year. And he has a 300+ points lead over Roger.

I am sat here like I have nothing to do. Which is not true, but I can't be bothered to move. And moving hurts. Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 14/08/2017 19:44

Well, Roger has pulled out of Cinci, so Rafa is going to be number one without any competition now. Until the US Open, if Roger plays there, which presumably he will be doing.

Apparently, it's his back.

But I think it was always the case that he would scale down the number of tournaments he played anyway.

This disappeared off threads I'm on, so this is a test, because my laptop is playing up...

Ok, so I've just seen it before sent me, MN have messed up somewhere. And everything in TIO is wiped.

I'm a bit fed up.

Del Po has beaten Berdych, which is a good result. Berdy isn't having the best of years, but as a result for Juan- I'm more than happy Grin

Goffin is up against Kyrgios later- I hope Nick's hip is still bothering himGrin.

OP posts:

Bugger - not happy to see Goffin lost to Kyrgios. Sad

Am on the train home from London with annoyingly intermittent wi-fi.

Am very nervous about Rafa v Gasquet , despite the fact Rafa has a brilliant record against him, and last lost to him when they were 13, or something.Grin. But Rafa always makes me nervous.

Del Po is still doing ok.

I'm very tired.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 16/08/2017 23:39

Hope you had a nice day in that London Raahh.

Gasquet played really well in Washington so it could go either way. Sascha gave him a good workout.

Henri Laconte was good on Celebrity Masterchef, competitive but fun Grin
