Djok is most likely to miss the US Open because of his elbow.

Raahh · 25/07/2017 12:34

Not really surprised about Djok, and I think Jelena is due to have the baby around then, so it probably makes sense to miss it. For him to fetfeit a match like that, things must have been bad.

Rafa was offered a wild card for Hamburg, I'm a bit sad he turned it down, but I imagine an extended break is quite nice. But if he'd won, he'd have gone back to number 1!

If I could afford it Id get sky sports for the next month. Im missing it! Sad.

(not that im glued to the box all day, i missquite a lot when its on even, but its ice to have it there, like when you have the radio on while you're doing other things.then sit down for 10 mins and get into some play.

Wonder what Tomic will do now. hes like a rich playboy hope he doesnt go off the rails. same with Kyrios. not doing a ammabssadorial role for Australia are they?

Raahh · 25/07/2017 14:35

Read sad news about a 'nice' Aussie yesterday. Peter Doohan, who beat Boris when he was defending champion at Wimbledon in '87 ( massive upset at the time), has passed away . He had motor neurone disease. I think he only made it public recently. That was sad to read.

QuiQuaiQuod · 26/07/2017 12:39

oh Raah, thats so sad. I liked him, and remember ''that'' match.

he was indeed a nice Aussie. Sad. Tennis.

btw there are lots of nice Ausiies, over the years and now, just the 2 in my last post seem to dominate the headlines.

DramaAlpaca · 26/07/2017 13:34

How sad. I also remember that match in '87.

Yes, there have been some wonderful Aussie players over the years. Such a shame those two grab headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Raahh · 26/07/2017 13:59

Qui oh,, i know, there are loads of nice Aussies. Grin. It's a shame a couple of the newer ones are bratsHmm. Tomic should be banned.. He has such disdain for the sport, it's disrespectful to his opponents. But then you could argue, how many people go to work every day in jobs they truly enjoy, and are not just doing them because they need to? Tomic doesn't need the money, though, he's said that often enough.

As for Kyrgios, I'm just sick of having him constantly built up as the next big thing. There are 3 players that are guaranteed to get BBC commentators over excited- Murray, Federer... and Kyrgios. It's embarrassing they waste so much time on him. I know he's still only young, but I think that ship has sailed. He shows no work ethic at all. He will prop up the top 10/15, like Dimitrov, or Nishikori, but he'll never win a major, imo. Unless he has a major change of attitude.

But I might be proved wrong.

I've been reading that Djok won't play at all for the rest of the year. I know not many of us are fans, but I do think it is sad for the sport when one of the big names is injured. It's been a terrible year for him , really, physically and mentally, I think.
Will be interesting to see when Murray comes back. Hip injuries aren't easy to treat. I will be a bit sceptical if he's 'cured' by the US open though. But with Djok out of he way... Grin

I see Leonardo Mayer has won the first semi-final in Hamburg and Florian Mayer is playing Kohlschreiber in the other semi. It would be funny if both Mayers were in the final. Kohlschreiber looks stronger though. I've just seen bits and pieces of Hamburg. Nicholas Kicker from Argentina is good.

JaneJeffer · 29/07/2017 15:12

Wow Kohlschreiber has just quit the match after bashing up his racquet! He had won the first set. Very strange Confused

JaneJeffer · 29/07/2017 15:14

They think he has a hip problem!

Raahh · 29/07/2017 15:41

How bizarre!

Bloody hipsGrin how very 2017!

Raah I always think the Williams sisters are miracullously ''cured'' by the grand slams, they usually seem injured/ill at most other times- (though a valid excuse atm with Serena!).

Kyle into the semi finals, beat Sock.

Sock was playing doubles with his brother. a pair of socks! Grin. Tennis.

JaneJeffer · 30/07/2017 21:19

Just watched the replay. Leonardo won. His baby Valentino was courtside, so cute, very big for six months. It was a good match.

Aww, cute baby!

The first day of the holidays here. I'm still in denial that dd1 has left primary school ( there were tears, I don't careGrin). And I want to hide in my room for the next 5 weeks and leave them to it. Grin

I just can't get motivated to do anything.

Roger's Cup next week- not sure if I will see any of it, all depends on what random channels suddenly appear on my TV. Otherwise it's back to refreshing scores online!

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 31/07/2017 23:29

Hope your first day of the holidays Raahh. DS2 has had four weeks off already and still five to go! He's at a football camp this week so that'll pass some of the time. But I'm not one who thinks kids need loads of activities during the holidays. A bit of boredom is good for them Grin

Washington Open is on Sky this week.

JaneJeffer · 31/07/2017 23:30

Hope it went well!

Raahh · 01/08/2017 11:22

Thanks Jane it was ok. We achieved great things-like mowing the grass before it rained, and replacing ds's blazer. I don't know what he does to them (apart from grow) but this last one has been hanging by a thread since Easter. Grin

Delpo is supposed to be playing in Washington, which I'm excited about. I was reading that there are 4 defending champions, since none have played there since they last won Grin

Looking forward to the Rogers Cup next week- Murray, Djok, Stan and Cilic are all withdrawals- so with a fair draw, I'm hoping Rafa will be back to number 1 by next week. He will be the first player to regain the spot 4 times. Think he needs to get to the semi finals. Even if he doesn't do it there, I can't imagine Murray being fit for Cinci the following week.

Was a shame Delpo didn't manage to beat Nishikori in Washington. I want Raonic to win it now, or Zverev.
Big story there with the Indian player, Yuki Bhambri, who is ranked 200 and through to the quarter finals. Interesting to see if he gets further.

Raahh · 04/08/2017 21:40

I've just seen Stan is out for the rest of the year with a knee injury Sad
I'm glad the new kids on the block are doing well, but I will miss Stan (in all honesty, I won't miss Djok or Murray, if he decides to do the same).

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 04/08/2017 22:55

It's a shame about Stan. So many injuries this year.

The Zverev/Thompson match was good the other day. Some great shots from both. Nice to see Thompson isn't behaving like his compatriots.

I can't understand the poor crowds in Washington.

JaneJeffer · 06/08/2017 01:14

I'm watching Zverev/Nishikori. Looks like Zverev will win. He's playing so well. He really is so pretty to look at Grin

Raahh · 06/08/2017 10:08

I'm glad Zverev beat Kei. Poor Kei-Grin, unlike Djok and Murray I have absolutely no reasons at all to dislike him- I just do. I Can't put my finger on why I've never warmed to him him.

Zverev is definitely proving to be the 'nextgen' player worthy of the hype for a change, though.

And Sacha is doing well in the final so far..

Well done Sasha! He gave such a long speech at the presentation, even mentioned his dog who was there Grin his mother takes care of it while he's playing. Cute dog.
