SPOILER WARNING

Anyone else who is eagerly awaiting the start of the next season and want to chat about predictions and theories for what is going to happen as the Game of Thrones draws to a conclusion over the next two series?

Spoilers inevitable, as it's almost impossible to look forward without looking back at what has happened in the show already. But please mark spoilers about leaks relating to Seasons 7 and 8 in case some pp don't want to see photos and things ahead of the show.

So, who is going to win the Game and who is going to die? Share your thoughts, theories and crazy tinfoil hat suggestions here!

Has anyone read this?

www.digitalspy.com/tv/game-of-thrones/feature/a833128/fire-wight-game-of-thrones/

If Beric is a fire wight, does this mean that Jon is as well?

notaslimceagirl · 16/07/2017 17:37

oooh! The burning sword is part of the prophecy told by the the red woman. Azor Ahai will have a burning sword and she thinks that Jon is Azor Ahai.

Missymoomum · 16/07/2017 17:55

Does anyone know what time it will be on NOW TV after the 2am showing? I'm really tempted to stay up but i'm in the middle of writing my dissertation with barely any time left so I really can't afford to miss a day of studying tomorrow!

HolyShmoly · 16/07/2017 18:02

Currently re-watching the last season to prepare for tomorrow. I really hope that Arya gets a well thought out plot this season. They've completely fucked with her these last few seasons. GRRM did the same thing so I can't say it's B&W's fault. Hopefully now she's back in Westeros things will start making sense again.

AryaUnderfoot · 16/07/2017 19:58

Has anyone read this?

Yes, I read the full interview in Time magazine (there is a link upthread). Yes, this implies Jon is a fire-Wight, but I can't see that letting the show makers getting in the way of him getting Dany pregnant if that's the line they choose to go down.

In the books we have no idea what the nature of his death/resurrection will be and what effects (if any) it will have on his personality going forward. The conversations between Beric/Arya and the Lady Stoneheart interactions are all setting up to imply that resurrection is not something that ends well for anyone.

HOlySchmoly my fear is that Arya is being set up to be a character seeking vengeance at any cost. She seems to have taken Lady Stonehart's arc. The whole Lady Stoneheart/Brotherhood without Banners is set up to be more of a cautionary tale about the destructiveness of pursuing vengeance at any cost rather than a celebration of it.

Last season we saw Sansa pursuing vengeance with Ramsey and the Hound ditching his redemption by seeking vengeance against Lem Lemoncloaks. Ellaria was getting vengeance by killing Doran Martell for...reasons.

Actually, why worry about losing Lady Stoneheart when every character has become her?

AryaUnderfoot · 16/07/2017 20:13

The Azor Ahai prophesy says that the Prince that was Promised will forge the sword Lightbringer which will end the long night by plunging it into the breast of his beloved wife Nissa Nissa.

If Jon is Azor Ahai and the prophesy is literally correct (no guarantees) and he does end up 'getting together' with Dany, then it doesn't bode well for her chances of survival.

ElenaGreco123 · 16/07/2017 20:16

Very sorry for not having replied straight away about the Mirri Maz Duur theory. Real life intervened.

Not sure if it is fact that quite a lot of the prophecy has already come true, more like canon. See entry by the Citadel on the Westeros website www.westeros.org/Citadel/Prophecies/Entry/1799. Dany was almost certainly pregnant in the books after MMD and miscarried.
Nothing is a fact in the books, 99% of the story is told by unreliable narrators.

Can't wait for tonight.

HolyShmoly · 16/07/2017 20:20

Arya I've just rewatched the scenes with her watching the Lady Crane as Cersai and she seemed to develop some empathy for her. I had hoped that she'd grow to realise that every person is living their own story and maybe learn to look at people's motives before swearing blind revenge. If that makes any sense?
Basically that she'll grow up a little bit and grow some more depth of character, a softness to balance the hardness that she had to develop after leaving Winterfell.

HolyShmoly · 16/07/2017 20:25

I am probably massively projecting though. Watching tomorrow night and I'm excited and scared! Can't bloody wait for the next book.

AryaUnderfoot · 16/07/2017 20:33

HolySchmoly have you read the Mercy sample chapter from the Winds of Winter that's available on the ASOIAF app? I think a fair amount of her season 6 stuff with Lady Crane was taken from that.

I think GRRM is setting her up to have some crisis in which she has to either choose vengeance and cold-blooded justice or retaining her humanity. Her execution of the deserter from the Nights Watch (I think it was Daeron but I can't remember his name) was a perfect example. She set herself up as judge, jury and executioner for his desertion, but the 'reader' is armed with the knowledge of exactly why he was sent to the wall in the first place (sentenced as a rapist for the crime of having consensual sex with a highborn girl way above his status) and may or may not have more sympathy with his decisions.

Personally, I think she will find her way back to Arya Stark eventually and will turn her back on vengeance, but I think it will be very much oversimplified in the show. Suddenly she will just stop killing randomly because...... She does.

HolyShmoly · 16/07/2017 20:53

Ah it's been a while, I am really overdue a reread of it all, including the online chapters.
Maybe on the show she'll meet the Hound and realise that it's pointless to keep killing cause they JUST COME BACK.

OlennasWimple · 16/07/2017 21:00

Maybe we need a new thread for Season 7 discussions, working on the assumption that anyone posting on it will have seen all of S1-6 and the current S7 episodes as they air?

OP posts:
AryaUnderfoot · 16/07/2017 21:03

OlennasWimple good idea. Maybe after each episode there should be a thread titled 'GOTseason7 episode 1 for people who have watched it' or somesuchlike.

I'm not staying up until stupid o'clock. I've got to go to work tomorrow.

DispatchReady · 16/07/2017 21:08

It's on at 2am and then repeated at 9pm Monday night.

AryaUnderfoot · 16/07/2017 21:13

HolySchmoly I think Arya needs to meet up with the Hound so she can build up a better repertoire of witty one-liners (usually involving chicken) to say before she kills people...

TheSecondOfHerName · 16/07/2017 21:13

I agree that a new thread for each episode would be the best way to avoid spoilers.

I am not going to be able to watch it until Monday evening (BST).

OlennasWimple · 16/07/2017 21:14

OK - I'll set up a thread for the forthcoming episode. Watch this space....

OP posts:
Middleoftheroad · 16/07/2017 21:16

Great idea re the thread Olennas...
Last year I set my alarm.for 2 but may get up around 6 imstead to watch before the masses arise, otherwise I'll be like a White Walker at work Brew

OlennasWimple · 16/07/2017 21:22

New thread for Season 7 Episode 1 here

Please come back and post on it as soon as you have seen it - I'll no doubt have lots of thoughts after tonight...!

OP posts:
AryaUnderfoot · 16/07/2017 21:37

OlennasWimple are you staying up for it?

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 16/07/2017 21:56

Just been trying to set up my Now TV account to watch this first thing tomorrow. To my immense irritation my X-Box is refusing to update the app, and the Now TV app on my Youview box will only play movies. Torn between watching it on the Chromecast in the kitchen (not comfy), on my laptop (OK I guess but not a huge screen) or going to the trouble of unplugging the XBox from the HDMI socket on the telly and setting up the free Now TV box I was given so I can curl up on the sofa with a cuppa and a duvet as I'd planned.

God modern life is complicated.

notaslimceagirl · 16/07/2017 22:31

Could Gendry be Azor Ahai?

ElenaGreco123 · 16/07/2017 22:36

Anyone can be Azor Ahai and in the literal interpretation, it should be a blacksmith. So Gendry is a good a candidate.

HolyShmoly · 16/07/2017 22:47

I need Gendry to come back. I bloody luffed him.

Does anyone remember someone asking for an explanation of a joke about a man with a donkey and honeycomb on here a while back. Tyrion just started telling it to Grey Worm and Missandei in this episode!

And in batshit theories I've just came up with, I've decided that Lady Crane is actually a Faceless Man/Jaqen H'ghar. And there was more than just milk of the poppy in that drink. It would explain why an actress that was so much better than the rest of them was in that theatre group and why Arya was miraculously healed from those bowel bursting stabwounds.
Although it does kind of annoy me that this means that Arya is still being directed by the Faceless Men and not by her own agenda.

OlennasWimple · 17/07/2017 02:51

I can't get HBO to work for me right now!
