SPOILER WARNING

Anyone else who is eagerly awaiting the start of the next season and want to chat about predictions and theories for what is going to happen as the Game of Thrones draws to a conclusion over the next two series?

Spoilers inevitable, as it's almost impossible to look forward without looking back at what has happened in the show already. But please mark spoilers about leaks relating to Seasons 7 and 8 in case some pp don't want to see photos and things ahead of the show.

So, who is going to win the Game and who is going to die? Share your thoughts, theories and crazy tinfoil hat suggestions here!

beyond The 5th of Never!

I do wonder why his appearance was changed so much on tv

It isn't just his appearance that has been changed. Most of the more 'unpleasant' aspects of his character and behaviour have been whitewashed somewhat as well.

OK, he killed Shae in the TV series (pretty unavoidable). However, they also didn't show him slapping her round the face when she disagreed with him. There was no raping of the sex slaves, and his complicity in the gang rape of Tysha (my cock betrayed me) is also carefully avoided in his whitewashing.

Then there's that inconvenient bit about the singer who ends up in a bowl of brown.....

I'm not saying Tyrion is a 'bad' person. He's a perfect example of one of GRRM's grey characters. I just think he's been a little bit 'cleansed' by the show.

He's not the only one. Bronn is a thoroughly nasty f*cker in the books.

ZedWoman · 29/06/2017 22:03

I did a re-read from single character's perspective. What an eye-opener!

Sansa's dodgy memory.....

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 29/06/2017 22:30

I dunno whether it's intentional whitewashing or just simplifying for a tv audience - I guess you don't have as much time to explain nuance in a ten hour series?

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 29/06/2017 23:51

Any ideas on how the sun could rise in the west, for dany to get pregnant?

ClashCityRocker · 30/06/2017 07:29

I thought it might be to do with dorne - martells sigil is the sun - but they're pretty much all dead so that fucks that one.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 30/06/2017 08:37

Quick look - karstark and tarth (that one might be it?!) both have suns on their sigils too

ZedWoman · 30/06/2017 08:49

Wasn't that prophesy about Khal Drogo regaining consciousness? I took it to mean that it's never going to happen.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 30/06/2017 09:00

It was about drogo, yes, but it mentioned pregnancy.

Here's the whole thIng...

"When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east," said Mirri Maz Duur. "When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before."

ElenaGreco123 · 30/06/2017 20:08

Has "mountains blow in the wind like leaves" happened in the books yet or is that the dragons flying? I can't remember. I need a reread, but I mostly tune out on the Dany chapters.

ZedWoman · 30/06/2017 20:43

I mostly tune out on the Dany chapters

Ha - me too!

The best bits of foreshadowing regarding Dany is in the House of the Undying in ACoK and Quaithe in ADWD.

I always saw Mirri Maz Duur's words as more of a curse than a prophesy.

ZedWoman · 30/06/2017 20:54

I don't remember any prophesies of visions about mountains. There is the giant armoured in stone in Bran's coma dream, there is the stone beast taking wing from a smoking tower and breathing shadow flame in the HOTU. The only mountain that's 'blown over' is the Clegane one...

Paffle · 30/06/2017 22:01

About to watch the Battle of the Bastards. Excited even though I've seen it before. Such good TV.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 01/07/2017 12:17

I've reached The Door

Paffle · 01/07/2017 13:49

Crikey, Beyond, you don't hang around! I have a little Hodor doorstop. Only problem is it's rubbish and doesn't Hodor very well.

ZedWoman · 01/07/2017 17:02

I want a Hodor doorstop!

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 01/07/2017 18:43

Done. Now for a long two and a half weeks!!

Paffle · 01/07/2017 21:35

Also done. Epic. Now - shall I watch each episode of the next Season as it airs or save a few up for binge-watching?

IheartCaptainHolt · 01/07/2017 21:44

Paffle, that is the big question!

ZedWoman · 02/07/2017 07:58

I don't think I could save them up for binge watching. I know far too many people who watch the show and would be talking about it not to ruin it for me.

So, for those of you who have binge-watched through all six seasons, did you notice any decline in the quality of the writing/directing and dialogue during season 6? I have read loads of comments on forums saying that the last two seasons were noticeably worse than the first four, but I've never watched any season (apart from from the first) more than once so can't really compare.

Paffle · 02/07/2017 08:50

When I watched first time around, I felt the last two seasons really dragged. Arya seemed to be in the House of the Many-faced God for ever. And Brand traipsing around ditto. I didn't actually find that this time around. And some bits made more sense as there are references to stuff that happened previously and of course first time around, it could be a year or more since I'd seen that so I couldn't remember. I also knew which bits were going to be significant in the future so I could concentrate more at the time. I thoroughly recommend a binge-watch for those who can.

ZedWoman · 02/07/2017 09:39

I can't really manage a binge-watch as the kids are around the house too much. I did find the same with the binge re-read though, athough I still found ADWD really tedious. The only chapters I really liked were Theon's Winterfell ones.

ElenaGreco123 · 02/07/2017 09:47

They know my name

ElenaGreco123 · 02/07/2017 09:48

That was Theon on the old gods in Winterfell.

ZedWoman · 02/07/2017 09:59

Knowing that Bran is part of the Westeros-Wide-Weirnet makes re-reading any godswood scenes really interesting.
