SPOILER WARNING

Anyone else who is eagerly awaiting the start of the next season and want to chat about predictions and theories for what is going to happen as the Game of Thrones draws to a conclusion over the next two series?

Spoilers inevitable, as it's almost impossible to look forward without looking back at what has happened in the show already. But please mark spoilers about leaks relating to Seasons 7 and 8 in case some pp don't want to see photos and things ahead of the show.

So, who is going to win the Game and who is going to die? Share your thoughts, theories and crazy tinfoil hat suggestions here!

Series 1 was written before ADWD was published, and the show runners didn't know which storylines from the last book they weren't going to follow.

I'm still not convinced MMD's predictions about Dany relate to a prophesy.

Quaithe's ones are better:

The glass candles are burning. Soon comes the pale mare, and after her the others. Kraken and dark flame, lion and griffin, the sun's son and the mummer's dragon. Trust none of them. Remember the Undying. Beware the perfumed seneschal.

ZedWoman · 13/07/2017 19:22

sun's son is Quntyn Martell

notaslimceagirl · 13/07/2017 19:45

Who is the perfumed seneschal?

This is a great interview...

ZedWoman · 13/07/2017 20:01

Perfumed sensechal could be one of several characters. Most obviously Reznak mo Reznak (that's who Dany assumes it is). It could be Varys, although he is probably the Mummer of the Mummer's dragon. My preferred theory is that it refers to the ship which Tyrion (lion), Jorah and Moqorro (dark flame) are sailing towards Meereen on. Tyrion is told by the captain that it's name literally translates as 'stinky steward'.

I have heard another theory that it refers to Satin - Jon's steward at the wall just before his stabbing - who could be part of the conspiracy to assassinate him.

ZedWoman · 13/07/2017 20:20

In the trailer it look like a Martell is kissing somebody - is it Arya?

It's Yara Greyjoy.

OlennasWimple · 13/07/2017 20:38

Yes, its Ellaria (known bisexual) and Yara (known lesbian) having a snog

Interesting to think about how they will meet up as all the different players start to come together

OP posts:
ZedWoman · 13/07/2017 20:45

Weren't Ellaria and Yara both on 'team Dany' travelling on a ship towards Westeros at the end of S6E10?

I miss Qarl the Maid. Just about the only detent bodice-ripping sex scene of the entire book series was cut from the show. I think Qarl is the only man in Westeros that doesn't suffer from premature ejaculation.

Fantastic News (small spoiler)

Grin Grin Grin

notaslimceagirl · 13/07/2017 20:54

Yay Smile

OlennasWimple · 13/07/2017 20:56

No, I think it was just Tyrion, Varys and Missendei on the boat at the end. Ellaria is in Dorne still? (Or was - not sure how much time has passed). Presumably Olenna made it safely back to Highgarden and has brought Ellaria into the alliance to attack Kings Landing from the other side?

How can you forget Poderick, Zed Wink

OP posts:
notaslimceagirl · 13/07/2017 20:56

oooh I wonder if Arya and Gendry could end up on the iron throne together?!

SafetyBird · 13/07/2017 20:57

Yay!!

Soubriquet · 13/07/2017 20:59

Looking forward to it!! I won't be watching it till Monday though as no way can I stay awake till stupid o clock

ZedWoman · 13/07/2017 21:05

Yes, OlennasWimple I think you are right about who's on the boat. I think the whole 'Varys teleportation' confused me.

I think Pod in the books is about 12. No 'brothel action' going on there. Last seen hanging from a tree in the Riverlands (sob).

FadedRed · 13/07/2017 21:19

Just a thought about Sam and Gendry.
Sam's father (horrible bloke, hope he gets his comeuppance), wouldn't give Sam the Valerian steel sword that should have gone to Sam as the first born son. He said that the ethos for forging Valarian steel swords was 'lost'. Sam takes the shoes when he and Gilly leave.
So Sam now has a Valerian steel sword AND access the library of all knowledge. So will Sam discover the lost method? They need Valerian swords to have a chance to kill the undead White Walkers.
Gendry is a blacksmith - a maker of swords.

FadedRed · 13/07/2017 21:22

Method not ethos! Even when I proofread, the autocorrect makes up nonsense the instant I press 'post'.

OlennasWimple · 13/07/2017 21:26

Faded - what's more interesting is that in the books, it's the master smith that Gendry is apprenticed to who re-forges Ice into Widow's Wail and Oathkeeper, but in the show it was Anonymous Smith from Volantis. I wonder why they made the change, especially as we had already met Mott when Ned realised that Gendry had to be Robert's bastard

I think Arya and Gendry ending up together on a throne is a real possibility. Another change D&D made to the books was some dialogue from Season 1, where Ned tells Arya that Sansa will marry a high lord and she will marry a king. Also, Robert and Ned agreed that binding together their houses in marriage would be a Good Thing, so it would be poetic if instead of Sansa and Joffrey it were Arya and Gendry

Zed - yes, they're all a bit young for comfort in the books (I feel queasy when Tyrion describes seeing Sansa's boobs and pubes on their wedding night, for example, or Dany's left boob being on display in Qarth and Jorah having an ogle Envy) .

How about Daario instead? (Though he would so promise to call you and then never be seen again) Or Tormund and his big pecker?

OP posts:
ZedWoman · 13/07/2017 21:39

Urghh. Book Daario spends far too much time fondling his 'wantons'. Plus, the purple forked beard really didn't do it for me. My 'headcanon' Daario always looked a bit like Anthony Keadis (from the time of Californication). Show Daario.....no.

Robert Baratheon was supposed to look like 'a maiden's fantasy' gone to seed. Mark Addy just looked like...... Mark Addy gone to seed.

Sansa's wedding night scene is just cringeworthily horrible in the books. 'Even his cock was ugly'. Urghh. Poor Sansa. She has horrid minty kisses from Littlefinger, and drunken Dontos slobbering all over her. And then there was that business about 'I'll have a song from you, whether you will it or no'.

I can certainly see Gendry reforging Valyrian steel in the show. In the books I'm interested in what the faceless men are trying to find in the citadel. I think it might have something to do with Valyrian Steel as well.

OlennasWimple · 13/07/2017 21:43

Whisper it, but I don't think GRRM can write a good sex scene for women... And despite his protests about "showing what things were like for women back then" and critics praising his "strong, independent female characters" he can't really justify making some of the characters so young and then putting them through such hideous sexual experiences, especially the women

OP posts:
ZedWoman · 13/07/2017 21:57

I agree. To me, Asha/Qarl seemed a bit of an exception in the books. Arianne/Arys was another example, but full of that 'I'm a kingsguard' angst as well as the obligatory premature ejaculation that all westerosi males suffer from.

There a very few pairings in the books that don't include either death-sentence-worthy breaking of vows or massive imbalance in power or just plain old incest.

SafetyBird · 13/07/2017 23:17

Can someone explain the Mormont family? I find that confusing. Is Jorah related to the young ruler girl in series 6?

SafetyBird · 13/07/2017 23:24

I'm also watching a recap of series 6 and it's so so obvious Tyrion has a "bond" with the dragons. He has to be one of the 3 heads!

OlennasWimple · 13/07/2017 23:30

Safety

Jeoh Mormont was the Lord Commander when Jon got to the Wall. He had abdicated as head of the Mormont family in order for his son Jorah to take over. Unfortunately Jorah's wife had an expensive spending habit which Jorah funded by selling slaves, which is illegal in Westeros. When he was expelled by the king, Jeoh's sister Maege took his place as the head of the bears. Maege and at least one of her daughters was killed fighting for Robb Stark (there are more in the books, but I think only one in the show) - in the book, one of the daughters is killed at the Red Wedding.

Lyanna Mormont was the youngest of Maege's daughters, so Jeoh's niece and Jorah's cousin. She is named for Lyanna Stark. She's 10 in the show but younger in the books.

There is a popular fan theory that Tormund is her dad (based on a story that he tells in the books about the time he slept with a bear), but this is deemed to be unlikely by most

Does that help?

Yes thank you!
