Hello Lovelies.

Marking place.

Smile
OP posts:
Raahh · 28/04/2017 18:43

Mini scare for Rafa in his first set- but he set it straight in the tie break. Was quite impressed by what I saw of Chung, though.

JaneJeffer · 29/04/2017 15:07

So Andy is out. Not having a good year so far.

JaneJeffer · 29/04/2017 15:49

It's gone very windy out there. Rafa's looking good though Grin

Raahh · 29/04/2017 17:08

Was score-watching whilst freezing to death watching dd1 play football. I sort of expected the result really, Thiem is playing well, and Murray hasn't seemed very convincing. I'm sure his serve is hampered by his elbow.

Looks like Rafa is on course for number 10 tomorrow..Vamos

Raahh · 30/04/2017 16:10

First set to Rafa, Thiem playing well though. Not sure this will be over in straight sets, though Rafa really is looking very strong.

DramaAlpaca · 30/04/2017 16:32

Hello Raahh, yes Rafa is looking strong. Thiem is playing well, one of the commentators likened his style to Wawrinka, which is true, I think. He's one to watch for the future, certainly.

Raahh · 30/04/2017 16:42

Dom now appears to have lost focus a bit.
He is the most consistent of the younger players, i think, his career had steadily risen. Zverev is also doing well, but it younger of course.

I'm certainly happier to watch both of those , than Kyrgios.

Vamos Rafa.
I need to do the ironing.

DramaAlpaca · 30/04/2017 16:43

Oh me too. Watch Zverev and Thiem I mean, not the ironing. Although I need do that too, there's a huge pile looking at me from the corner.

Rafa almost there now Smile

Raahh · 30/04/2017 16:48

Number 10Grin

He needed this to keep his ranking up- going into RG. I hope he can keep it up in Madrid and Rome.

Raahh · 30/04/2017 16:51

Aww, they've got a number 10 for him. That's nice.

DramaAlpaca · 30/04/2017 17:00

Goodness me! Just as well Rafa won or that meticulously planned celebration would've gone to waste Grin

I've just looked Thiem up and he's only a few weeks older than DS1. It's kind of weird when you find yourself at an age where top tennis players or sportspeople in general are the same age as your own DC.

Raahh · 30/04/2017 17:02
Grin I wouldn't want to clear it up. Easier on clay, than grass though. You'd get none of that malarkey at WimbledonGrin
Raahh · 30/04/2017 17:06

Some sportspeople have been around so long, I'm always shocked at how young they are.

DramaAlpaca · 30/04/2017 17:06

You wouldn't would you, the grounds people would have conniptions. I suppose they can just brush it all off together with the top layer of clay.

It was a lovely celebration though.

carabos · 30/04/2017 17:54

Rafa's on a proper charge. He's gonna win RG! I reckon Andy's charge at the end of last year has burned him out, hopefully temporarily. I love Andy, but he's not a genuine #1 and it will be very difficult for him to stay there with Rafa and Roger in hot form.

Raahh · 30/04/2017 18:19

carabos RG 10 for Rafa would be great, and make up for missing out in Australia.

JaneJeffer · 30/04/2017 21:27

Yay he won on his own court! He's in great form. Hope he keeps it up for RG. It's been very refreshing not to have Djok around so much Smile

QuiQuaiQuod · 01/05/2017 14:53

Sharapova- Cant stand her, but are the other players being really bitchy towards her, or do you think they have a point?

Apparantly she took whatever it was as a prescription, then it made illegal.

and shes very rich and successful in her other ventires, and is back just cos she loves tennis so much.

and maybe the others feel threatened by her as she can beat any of them on a good day?

cant believe Im almost defending her!

Raahh · 03/05/2017 14:25

Qui I'm not sure about Shrieky. She annoys me- and not just the noise. I can't say I have missed her being around. I think her off-court stuff was starting to over shadow anything she was doing on-court, really.

I wonder whether the players who aren't happy about her being back, are wondering whether she has beaten them unfairly in the past, due to the drug use? I know the thing she was taking was only banned last year, and she had been taking it for years under a different name. But it was manufactured for angina- and she said she took it because of a family history of diabetes? It seems a bit odd.

Raahh · 03/05/2017 14:27

But in other news, Del Potro won his first match over in Estoril. Seems ages since he played- I hope he can get a good run of form now, injury free!

QuiQuaiQuod · 03/05/2017 15:47

yes, great to see DelPotro back. That guy he was playing, Sugita (I think), has been playing really well recently.

And Bedene.

Another cynical thought- wonder if Bedene playing really well ATM will make the LTA push him for a place in the GB Davis cup team Hmm

Raahh · 03/05/2017 16:02

If i was Bedene, having been knocked back so often, I'd tell them to get lost.or similarGrin

But he probably would be glad to be asked.

QuiQuaiQuod · 03/05/2017 16:10

Raahh {grin].

Heads up- Dave channel is showing tie break tens tennis tomorrow at 6.30. live

channel 12 on freeview ( ithink) and 111on Sky. Tennis.

Raahh · 03/05/2017 17:06

Thanks, qui, that sounds good.

I'm amazed it is May already.

I don't know where the year is going!

Spakledsockmonkey · 03/05/2017 19:29

Del Potro is out of Estoril due to the death of his grandfather.
