Is anyone else eagerly awaiting the arrival of taboo starring my lover the beautiful Mr Hardy on Saturday 7th of jan?

Or do I have him all to myself? Grin

The husband's face was hilarious when James walked into the church Grin he realised he'd just lost his inheritance. I wonder if he has anything to do with the east India company? Maybe he married the sister just to get access to the inheritance.

I wondered if the 'fucking' was more to give a flavour- 'wretched' and 'damnable' have weakened over time, so probably wouldn't have had the same effect on a modern audience. He seems to be a kind of extreme Byron figure, what with the incest and fighting bears (although it was probably only a small bear).

NancyDonahue · 08/01/2017 13:29

Must admit the swearing made me wince and I'm far from prudish. I don't think it was needed.

OneWithTheForce · 08/01/2017 13:31

Ooh I thought the swearing was just right. I was quite pleased to hear it as I was worried it was going to be a nicey flowery whitewashed BBC production. Grin

Found this on zilpha.

I was going to say Anna, One, but checking the Radio Times tells me her name is actually Zilpha (one for the Baby Names topic on MN??).

Optimist1 · 08/01/2017 14:01

Oops - late to the party WRT Zilpha!!

ManonLescaut · 08/01/2017 16:02

I thought he was more Bill Sykes than Byron - a role he played superlatively well in the BBC adaptation of Oliver.

This was Dickens on E.

I'm not a fan of Hardy but he makes a good brooding psychopath.

ManonLescaut · 08/01/2017 16:04

Nor is he Heathcliff - he's got chubby cheeks!

CremeEggThief · 08/01/2017 17:11

Is the actor who plays Zilpah's husband the one who was Miss Havisham's fiance in " Dickensian", does anyone know?

justdontevenfuckingstart · 08/01/2017 18:00

My colleague and I love Tom. He always seems so filthy. Gorgeous as always, The Drop is a very good film and lots of Tom. I enjoyed it very much and am looking forward to the next episode.

carabos · 08/01/2017 20:05

Just watched it on catch up and can't make head or tail of it. Can't see anything as it's so dark and can't hear anything as it's so muffled. Never heard of Tom Hardy and whoever he is, he's no Oliver Reed (apols to PP, who senses a likeness, but really Hmm).

In summary, won't be watching again Grin.

Brontebiscuits · 08/01/2017 20:15

Why don't you say what you really think, carabos? Grin

Actually another poster wrote a really good summary up thread if you want to give it another go..?

OneWithTheForce · 08/01/2017 20:17

Grin carabos! Do you need your hearing and vision checked? Were you watching from inside the washing machine?

carabos · 08/01/2017 20:18

Bronte thanks but I think I'll pass Smile.

carabos · 08/01/2017 20:19

One hearing wasn't helped by DH clattering in the kitchen and calling through "what did he say"? every couple of minutes.

OneWithTheForce · 08/01/2017 20:23

Ahh!! Well I think it's very clear, you don't have a taboo problem...you have a DH problem Wink

OP posts:
Brontebiscuits · 08/01/2017 20:26

I have to confess I did have trouble hearing a lot of it too but I wear hearing aids and assumed it was that - obviously not! It was very visually stunning as well though... not just Tom Hardy!

carabos · 08/01/2017 20:53

One I definitely have a DH problem. After Taboo, he put the Bowie thing on and instantly fell asleep - through the whole thing Hmm.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/01/2017 23:02

On planner. Havnt read thread so won't spoil it for myself

I'm only watching for the naked scenes 😂😂

DodoRevival · 09/01/2017 00:29

I think James's Mum's name was Anna (who went mad, or was declared mad and sent to Bedlam).

I found it a bit vaugue, too many hints at things and not enough information to hook me. That said it's on series link and I've given up on Sherlock so I'll be back next week. Also found it a bit mumbling (possibly I'm going deaf though).

What's the story about the look betwee the note taker man (and his luscious locks) and James? Were they on the ships together?? Did the High Sparrow aka Mr Sreange abuse them both?

How is James omnipotent?!?

DodoRevival · 09/01/2017 00:31

^ the Anna comment was in response to the poster who thought the sister was Anna, but then realised it wasn't, I was saying that to show said poster wasn't too widely off the mark as someone was called Anna.

I'm confused about this too.

Rich man takes a new wife and has a daughter with her.

I totally missed that. Confused

magicstar1 · 11/01/2017 14:01

Oooh I hadn't seen this thread. I loved it...when he walked up the church I was melting in a puddle! He could come home filthy every day and I'd lick him clean....and he does remind me of Oliver Reed too.

foofooyeah · 13/01/2017 23:48

Watched this on catch up last night and was totally hooked. Can't wait for episode 2 tomorrow. Great production, very atmospheric.
