Or do I have him all to myself? Grin

Couldn't get into this at all. Very gothic, very dark, not much going on and characters which I didn't feel much for.

Not a patch on Poldark ;-)

If I was his wife I'd be positively encouraging him to come home from work in his work clothes

Ha really? He looked like he needed a good scrub to me.

I adore Poldark and this has some similarities I think, just a whole lot darker. Just waiting for Tom Hardy to get his kit off so we can compare him to Aiden Turner Wink

People back from the dead
Set in london
Bad teeth
Nasty baddies
Tom hardy is good though. Not seen him in anything before.

80s.. you have to watch more Tom Hardy. He's done loads of stuff. Wuthering Heights is my favourite. Here he is as Heathcliff Smile

Oh well if the Guardian says so. It probably is a bit silly but silly isn't always bad!

Yes, he looks easy on the eye when not all dirty and hidden by hats!
I was expecting Tom Hiddlestone at first, im not good at actors - not a big film buff.
Dh was impressed with the set as it looked like london 1800s! Or how we imagine it.
I was shocked at the swearing,i must admit i didnt think they swore as much back then?

Even the flowerpot hat? Grin

I'm a regular namechanger but I've posted many many times of my love for tom. You should see my Pinterest board Blush He could come home to me dirty, clean, dressed, naked, beardy, bare faced, even 4'7" if he liked. I'd never complain. On this I promise. Grin

Really like it though little confused over the story

Tom Hardy just has something about him it's menacing and dangerous and incredibly hot he reminds me of a young Oliver Reed

Shall watch it again tonight so I can have a better understanding of the story Smile

I couldn't get into it. Either I missed something or there wasn't much going on.

Son comes back from Africa and is either into voodoo and/or has mental health problems. Half sister fancies him and there's a boy that's possibly theirs. Sister is married to a controlling arse. Absolutely no idea what the men having a meeting were about except they don't like TH much and don't want him getting the islands his father left him in his will.

Is that it? It looked good and was well acted. I don't fancy Tom Hardy at all but perhaps it helps if you do. I didn't dislike it exactly it just didn't click. I will keep watching though, perhaps it'll become clearer as it progresses.

My take on the story is as follows:

Rich man went to America and whilst there bought a strip of land and an native woman/girl as his wife.

They had a son (tom Hardy) and I'm assuming at some point the wife died.

Rich man takes a new wife and has a daughter with her. I suspect that at some point James and sister fall in love and possibly have a child that is passed off as his father's and wife's child.

James was sent to cadets where his commander was the guy who is the current chairman of the east India company.

James excelled at everything but there was a turning point where he suddenly rebelled and went 'mad' killing his senior officers, burning ships etc. James hints that he was only repeating what he was taught by the chairman.

James then takes off to Africa where he spends around 12 years before coming back when he hears of his father's illness.

Upon arriving back he hears of the strip of land he has inherited, he knows this is where his mother came from. He also knows this piece of land holds the key to Vancouver which is the access route to china. He owns a very valuable piece of land and the east India company are trying to hoodwink him into selling it for very little. They are now going to try and kill him.

He suspects foul play in his father's death so has him exhumed and his stomach contents tested. He was right it was arsenic poisoning.

I think that's everything so far.

According to IMDB, the sister is called Zilpha (that's one for the Baby Names board!)

The sisters husband is very dodgy
Do you think he poisoned the old man so he would inherit his money/ land?
Now he will have to kill the long lost son now returned

It's good that 10pm is the time dh usually nods off, it means I just got to watch the last 15 minutes again with him Grin.

Yes I was wondering if it was the sisters husband or my other thought was the house man/servant? He would have been the one preparing the old man's meals wouldn't he?
