Morning! That was a very enjoyable evening! The theatre is really tiny, and I took Wycombe's advice about where to sit despite DH's protests that he thought elsewhere was better. We weren't quite first in but the prime spot was still free! After we'd bagged the seats I nipped out to the loo and when I came back a lone woman had sat down next to me. As the rest of the theatre was still largely empty I did wonder if she'd read Wycombe's advice! Wasn't you rich, was it?!
The play is 90 minutes with no interval and no re-admission so I was bit concerned about dh's bladder as he'd consumed a pint in the bar first and then brought another upstairs. It went very quickly though, and all was well on the bladder front! A couple of the reviews I'd read suggested it was too long, but I disagreed - happy for it to go on all evening!
Ben was slighter and younger looking in real life than I expected, even with the beard! And very hair free arms, for someone with such dark curly hair. I think that added to the seeming young.
The play was really good I thought- not as "out there" as I'd been expecting from the reviews, and several amusing moments. Ben was great - as someone else said he was wasted in series 2. It was a very intimate performance- he was literally touching distance for much of the time, although as I said last night I sat on my hands resisted! Without sounding like a complete latch there were some nice flashes of abdomen when he raised his hands and his t- shirt lifted! It was funny at the end, as the lights went down and all was quiet, meaty Ben lying on stage. Several seconds went by then he said "will one of you clap, please?!" In a humorous tone! No one had wanted to clap until sure it was over I guess, and he was obviously thinking we needed a nudge or he'd be there all night!
Dh took no persuading to have another pint afterwards (the pub has real ales) so we were in the bar for a bit. Ben appeared and greeted quite a few people, then sat down for a chat with a couple he seemed to know. The lone woman who had sat next to me took herself over and introduced herself and sat with them, kudos to her, I wouldn't have been brave enough on my own. I wasn't brave enough not on my own, but I didn't feel the need to be honest. We were only sitting a few feet away anyway. He did indeed appear to be a lovely bloke, no airs and graces, no "look at me I'm a star".
So that's about it really! Sounds like tonight will be a memorable last night with the fans out in force, is anyone on here going?
