PS: not that all ex-Forces types are chauvinists of course, but most of those I worked with had been officers and CJ displayed so many of their characteristics. At work, they couldn't adapt to civvie street very well and when they said "jump", we were expected ot say "how high?" My friend across the road once worked for an ex RAF Group Captain and he told her quite openly if it was up to him, he'd go for a parade every morning at 8 am!

Rhubarb01 · 14/02/2017 22:20

Realising that due to my age, MK's jacket might not be top of my personal list of 'must haves' I sought the second opinion of a young person. DD's first comment was "Have they run out of material?". She then followed it up with "Do you remember that T shirt my teddy used to wear that fell apart because I wore holes in it by holding it all the time? - well it looks like that." I don't think it's on her list of 'must haves' either.

Sorry MK, I prefer a lot of other things you have worn.

Now then, CJ by contrast would always be on my list of 'must haves' Smile

TRish47 · 15/02/2017 07:23

I'm with you there Rhu! He certainly on my list of 'must haves'
Smile
Loved your updates thank you.

Rhubarb01 · 15/02/2017 13:55

Thanks for the kind words about the story Trish, ilove and Pix.

Trish I saw your comments on the SS-GB thread. It sound awful. Stay safe. We don't know how lucky we are here. I can remember some bad forest fires absolutely donkeys years ago when I was a child but they are thankfully very few and far between as it's seldom dry enough or hot enough here for long to cause these problems. Take care.

Ilovelblue · 15/02/2017 21:55

Rhu saw your latest update this morning and just had to read it before I went to work. You really. really, really should think about submitting it to the BBC. I see it as something like Secret Army from years ago - do you remember that?

A friend of mine who took early retirement about 5 years ago as her mother (now no longer with us) was ill told me I would encounter two sorts of people during all this stuff going on at work. There would be those who would say I was doing the right thing and some who would be jealous, negative or or just downright rude. I came across one of the latter this morning. Ive made no secret of having applied for VR but one idiot this morning said he'd heard I'd applied and with a mindset like that, the company would no longer want the likes of me around. I told a few of my friends on site who were all amazed I didn't smack him one.

How's half term going for those with little ones who need entertaining?

Rhubarb01 · 15/02/2017 22:23

Thank you for the kind words and reviews ilove. I think it's safe to say that I remember 'Secret Army' very well. I loved that drama and you can probably tell just a bit...those were were the days when a series had about sixteen episodes and they didn't mind having long scenes in which characters just had conversations with each other. It wasn't all action, probably because so much was done in studios on the cheap but I think they also thought viewers were intelligent enough to sit there and listen to what was being said. It seems to me that everything is just so short and fast these days.

As for your work colleague being so rude I can't see how it's anyone's business but your own if you decide to apply for voluntary redundancy. It's all well and good to be committed to your job and employer but at the end of the day they aren't your family, it's a business contract and no one ever says on their deathbed "I wish I'd spent more time at work." It's your life and if you've got a chance to do something that makes you happier and hurts no one else then just go for it! Enough said.

Ilovelblue · 15/02/2017 22:36

Rhu this particular person is sexist, bigoted and opinionated so it didn't really surprise me but with compulsory redundancies not that far away for some, he needs to be careful. My grandma used to say "be nice to people on your way up as you might meet them again coming down" and he would do well to remember those words. Not that he's beyond the bottom rung of the ladder anyway, but you get the gist. "Do as you would be done by" is maybe a better explanation.

moojangles · 16/02/2017 08:21

Big news ilove, good for you. As for the idiot, I am a great believer in karma!
Been dealing with family stuff chez mooj, sibling related & I haven't been given the 'be the bigger person' lecture either. Eventually will do the right thing for my Mum's sake. Also, got a lot on with mrmooj job related decision making & possible changes, so not really had the brain space to keep up with the thread for a while.

Ilovelblue · 16/02/2017 13:11

I'm just the opposite mooj, this has been my escape from job related stuff. I believe in things happening for a reason too. This guy will get his comeuppance eventually. 'He who laughs last laughs longest' and all that. Hope you get your family stuff sorted soon. At least you get a break this half term for a bit? XX

TRish47 · 17/02/2017 07:48

I see there was a comment on Twitter that Michelle Keegan is going for army training Nepal ! Let's hope it is the start of series 3Smile
Ilove I took VR 2 years ago and unfortunately, you always get some smartarse making stupid comments. I am also a great believer in Karma.
It has rained solidly today so that has helped tremendously with the fires. While they have managed to contain them they are still burning. The damage has been devastating, so many people evacuated and houses lost. Have a great weekend ladies xxx

Nickel45 · 17/02/2017 13:33

Good spot trish ... Interesting 😀 lets hope the media don't ruin this series by letting us all know what's happening before hand again, though.

Half term nearly over, although the kids have been ok until today (could be because I was at work the last two days!). Mad rush today getting haircuts and new plimsolls, finding hidden pe kit and the like. Ah. The joys!

icemistOBE · 17/02/2017 14:46

I saw it, its on Daily Star website- not sure how reliable they are.... Certainly nothing confirmed as yet by my source. But will let you know asap

Just looking at TV times and Tom Chambers is in the Casualty cast list, a little something to enjoy whilst 'waiting out'. I wonder if the success of BA in Run the Beast Down will bring him more exciting roles than CJ. Hopefully he will still find time if he wants to do another OG

Richtea19 · 18/02/2017 18:00

ilove your photos are gorgeous. Nothing colourful in my garden at all, my fault as intend to go for shrubs for easy maintenance but that does mean I don't get pretty flowers like your garden. I have been chopping and cutting back today and now my shoulders are so achy. A hot bath and a glass of wine.! The cats came out with me and loved being in the sunshine.

nickel what is it about the missing PE kit!! My son lost his football boots I'm so annoyed with him.

My handsome boy

Ilovelblue · 18/02/2017 20:37

Thanks Rich. I am a keen photographer as you've probably realised though gardening is my top hobby. I've really enjoyed pottering in the garden today. It seems ages since I was able to do some serious digging and splitting up but my sciatica really delayed me before and after Christmas. I kept thinking "I'll be able to do this all week if I want" at some point, then a few minutes later it was more "Sh*t, what have I let myself in for!"

Your cat is extremely handsome - how old is he? He has a great vantage point in the fork of that tree. My cats were outside with me today but spent most of their time chasing each other round the garden.

I did a sausage dish tonight which had been a recipe in the Telegraph from a couple of weeks ago - cooked with lentils, Guinness and prunes. I was curious to see how it would turn out and was pleasantly surprised. There's enough left for tomorrow as well.

Ilovelblue · 18/02/2017 21:54

I didn't explain that very well, what I meant was that I've been thinking if/when I'm not at work, I can garden all day if I want, then the next minute I'm panicking and wondering if I've done the right thing!

Rhubarb01 · 19/02/2017 17:16

Afternoon! I hope the weekend's gone well for you all. Lovely photos Ilove and Rich. Not much to report here, just popping in to say hello. I did a bit of baking yesterday, nothing exciting just a Victoria sponge and an apple cake but they're an improvement on my pasties!

Thanks for the comments on the story ilove. This one has seemed like a long haul but it's nearly over.

I'm looking forward to the new drama SS-GB tonight. I hope it's good. Luckily there's CTM before that and I'll probably top it off with The Good Karma Hospital which is at least very pretty looking and watchable mind you I'm finding Amanda Redman a bit annoying - the RT referred to her having a series of epigrams in place of character and sadly it's kind of true.

Ilovelblue · 19/02/2017 18:31

Evening. What a damp and drizzly day it's been today. The BBC forecast which is supposed to update hourly has not forecast one drop of rain all day! I went to a local ruined hall with my neighbour this afternoon for their snowdrop walk which runs every Sunday during February and they were amazing - an overused word these days, but they truly were. Like a white carpet everywhere and they're even more breathtaking than last year or the year before.

I've not done any baking for a while Rhu apart from that cake I took into work. I might do something later in the week and maybe put some of it in the freezer.

The snowdrops look lovely ilove. I remember you posting the pictures last year - oh goodness me a year has gone by. We have some woods near us that always have carpets of bluebells and look quite pretty but I have to make an effort to take the dog for a walk there and - you won't believe this - he's not very fond of going for walks.

As for the weather forecasters they, as Molly would say, "Do my nut in!" I find the forecasting so inaccurate these days. They seem to think they can tell you hour by hour what's going to happen and it's so often wrong. I seldom read or watch the forecasts and just look out the window.

icemistOBE · 19/02/2017 19:53

Watching countryfile, I know they said some scenes maybe be distressing but now having to chat with 7yo about why a calf was born dead....
