Thread one here

So, Sophie Giroux returned pretending to be Alice Webster. DNA results on the body in the shed confirm she is related to Sam.

Baptiste has found out about Henry Reed and the Brigadier being involved with a 9 year old girl in Iraq in 1991. Henry Reed was paying this girls brother.

There are 3 girls in the rollercoaster photo, Sophie, Alice and possibly the girl from Iraq? She has that colouring.

Henry Reed apparently committed suicide although Julien told Daniel he didn't. Whatever Daniel found out about him made him sick.

Nadia has been badly beaten and her husband is still in prison after being identified by Sophie/Alice. Matthew was made to promise to say sorry to the butcher.

Sophie is now in Switzerland. As is the newly spray painted yellow campervan that abducted Alice. Gemma and Baptiste doubt the DNA results as they are still looking for answers 2 years after she returned.

Birds keep being mentioned. Sophie and Alice both had the Web tattoo on their wrists.

This 'fourth' thread is the second part of the original thread - the first part of this one (similar title) is at page 20 so a part two was started which is why this one was started.

Don't think there's a row!!! Just more people are posting on this thread do it's better for discussion- more bang for your buck!

Fiderer · 03/11/2016 07:39

I didn't understand Gemma's questioning Eve about wanting a family either. Unless it was a dig as she knew about Eve & Sam. Wouldn't have thought her so callous, however hurt/damaged though.

Didn't like the Iraq/Pashmerga bit. Everything else is v much WTF?

Eckhausen seems so grim. Am looking more fondly at where I live in Forrin. Grin at how well everyone speaks English. Artistic licence - granted, but ime, no way.

A series with (hair back) Baptiste and the young German policeman - yes please.

FoxesOnSocks · 03/11/2016 07:45

Maybe the surrogacy thing does make sense though, Gemma's comment wouldn't be weird in that circumstance. Though who was the dad talking about regarding always wanting a family. His wife? One of the missing girls? His other daughter? (Is there one?)

Actually that too might tie in with surrogacy, he's talking about who ever Eve carried the baby for. Eve certainly isn't touchy touch about her bump, most women are but there's some that just aren't, so might not be a surrogacy thing.

Confused
TobleroneBoo · 03/11/2016 07:48

No and she seemed very reluctant go stop working, she seemed to view it as a bit of a nuisance

TobleroneBoo · 03/11/2016 07:49

To stop*

FoxesOnSocks · 03/11/2016 07:50

True. Ok I'm going with surrogacy. Not sure who for though. Sister seems likely.

TobleroneBoo · 03/11/2016 08:02

I hope she doesn't have an identical twin though, that seems to be the ultimate cop out for a murder mystery Grin

Bolognaise · 03/11/2016 08:06

I thought the baby might have been terminally ill and she knew it wouldn't survive but decided to go through with the pregnancy anyway and that perhaps the baby being ill had a link with fake Alice's baby who died - a hereditary thing and Eve and her are related maybe.

Eve looked a bit creeped by Gemma's question about a family - I dont think Genma had forgotten - maybe a purposeful dig at Eve

On another note - Henry Reeds grave looked new didn't it. Baptise thinks Henry didn't kill himself and looked like he wished Daniel had known something before he died. Maybe someone was manipulating Henry Reed (the brig)

I keep trying to tie in baptiste blaming Sophie's dad for being involved, I think it means one of the missing girls dad is involved - maybe 3rd girls dad is the kidnapper
Sam does seem genuinely broken but is there a chance?

TobleroneBoo · 03/11/2016 08:10

Henry reed died very close to the time "Alice" returned, and I didn't realize the timeframe was so small, Alice was only home for 4 days before the fire, so grave would have been very new

colliegirl · 03/11/2016 08:41

So was Henry Reid holding the girls and when he died they had the opportunity to escape? But Alice was dead so Sophie came back pretending to be Alice then did the body switch to get her home without getting her captor/s in trouble as she'd developed a strange relationship with him/her/them which is why she's still with them in the camper van in Switzerland but with some freedom??

FoxesOnSocks · 03/11/2016 08:44

The flowers on the grave suggest Alice/Sophie had some sort of relationship with Henry, though we don't know what sort. The Stockholm type or a grateful one (possibly he saved her).

Honestly got no clue!!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 03/11/2016 08:53

Or maybe the flowers on Henry Reed's grave were a signal to someone else.
She had no way of communicating, no phone or anything.

Dulra · 03/11/2016 08:58

Phew you guys have busy. Ok my thoughts ...
I think it was Sophie or 3rd girl that came back pretending to be Alice. I think Alice was already dead. Sophie or 3rd girl has appendicitis so pretends to be Alice so she can get treated and then has to fake her suicide using alices already dead body in fire to get back out of that pretence and return to her captor. Why she does all this I am not sure but I do think the burnt body in shed is Alice.
I find gemma's questioning of eve about having a family is very odd because she definitely new eve was pregnant in 2014 so the surrogacy suggestion could be right and that's why she phrased question as "having a family of your own".
I find it strange that the butcher is still in jail what evidence do they have? A receipt that could potentially place him at a bunker identified as significant by "alice" but no other evidence found there. A positive id by "Alice" who is now dead so can't provide any more evidence of his guilt and this positive Id was only heard by brig stone and no one else and stone now has dementia. The butcher either has really crap lawyers or more evidence against him comes out.
People I am currently suspicious of are the brig, eve and the German police officer.
I don't think 3rd girl has anything to do with Iraqi 9 year old I think that story is just giving us insight into what these people are capable of.

Fiderer · 03/11/2016 09:05

I don't get the not testing DNA when "Alice" re-appeared. With Gemma as well as Sam, also cross-checked with Sophie's dad/mum('s remains).

Is the Brig feigning his dementia to avoid suspicion? He was v creepy when "Alice" returned then declined v rapidly.

Do not get the twins & surrogate references. Cannot re-watch as have recently binge watched Black Mirror and think my head may explode.

hollyisalovelyname · 03/11/2016 09:28

How many episodes of Series 2 have aired so far please?

Manumission · 03/11/2016 09:30

4 Holly

Bestthingever · 03/11/2016 09:31

It's got to mean something that they used Sam's DNA and not Gemma's. Could Sam be the father to two girls? I actually just want a happy ending for Gemma. I love her character in this. She's strong and dignified. Keeley Hawes is becoming one of the best actors around at the moment.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/11/2016 09:33

Have been watching this in a slightly odd order (1, last 3/4 of 3, first half of 2, 4) so I know I haven't seen it all yet, but can I ask what made people suspect there was a third girl (don't worry about referring to something I haven't seen)?

Could Alice have been in the grave with Harry, and Sophie dug the body up and put the flowers down as an apology to Harry for disturbing his grave?

Ciutadella · 03/11/2016 09:35

Brig knew some quite detailed info about Alice when he was talking to DM - liked spiders, alternative. Is the idea that he found this out when Alice first disappeared and he was involved in investigation, or.......what? I thought DM was wondering this too, but he didn't follow it up.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 03/11/2016 09:42

Oh, and just to say, don't take too much notice of the imdb cast lists wrt future episodes. I have noticed what I can only assume to be deliberate mistakes in them in the past which have later been rectified.

LarkDescending · 03/11/2016 09:42

Maybe as Sam is a serving member of the Army they had DNA of his on "file", as it were (do they do this, for e.g. battleground ID?). We did not see them asking for samples in 2014. Perhaps this is why they only match Alice to his DNA?

I still don't get the Eve thing. Identical twins don't have the same given name. She definitely introduces herself as Eve when she (visibly pregnant) first meets Gemma at the school in 2014 "Sgt Eve Stone, military police". Then when she and Gemma go the the fairground in 2016 she announces herself to the staff member as "Staff Sgt Eve Stone, military police".

Unless Eve is not really Eve and Gemma's question was testing her to see whether she is the same person as in 2014? Aargh!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 03/11/2016 09:49

I think the question Gemma asked if Eve was in the context of them talking about families, Gemma telling Eve they as family dealt with Alice's disappearance and turning up.
Also Gemma knows Eve is caring for the brig, so the question was about a family on her own.

hollyisalovelyname · 03/11/2016 09:51

Thank you Manu.
I think I missed no. 4. It didn't record

Manumission · 03/11/2016 09:53

Ep 4 was broadcast last night. It's on iPlayer now.
