We stumbled across series one, really enjoyed it, new series coming soon... don't know the date yet??

Is there a reason Leo can't stand up straight? Was is his injury from series one or is he just a slumpy S shape? He looks like a salt n vinegar spiral crisp. I itch to straighten him out (not a euphemism).

Poor Mia. And poor Renie with her sweets in that sterile empty house.

The children at the end were creepy. Wonder if Pete and Karen will keep the runaway one. Though if child synths are such a secret how did the garage owner get the one Pete found in the park?

Brilliant! Does anyone understand the significance of the children?

Seeing the security-woman underwater was shocking, but seeing Athena's hands was almost as bad- couldn't they afford a set of acrylic nails for someone who looks like they work on a small-holding and chew their nails? The woman's supposed to be a scientist, but her hands didn't even look clean round the fingernails.
Sorry people, I enjoy the show too, but this looked bad.

Interesting that Karen spoke about her and Pete never being able to live a normal life: have children, grow old together, and then Pete stumbles across an escaped child synth. Clearly he's going to call Karen and say "look, you can come home now!"

What are these child synths FOR though, bearing in mind they cannot grow up? I can only think of sinister explanations.

How come Leo hasn't died of septicaemia due to the massive open wound on his side?

I quite like the exploration of the synth/human relationships. The synths not really understanding what it is to be human, but wanting to experience it.

Like, I feel so sorry for Karen - she can't understand human love and that kids/longevity/"growing old together" isn't the main thing in a lot of (most?) relationships. So she feels like she can't be in a relationship. It's heartbreaking. It's done really well - I think those two are so brilliantly done.

I "get" Hester's position in wanting to absorb any info regarding humans that she can, and essentially using Leo for that, and I think it's interesting that she is the only character so far to point out that synths can't feel so are an odd object of desire. Then Leo points out that humans can make themselves believe anything, which then makes you remember that they could just as well be talking about real human relationships - people pretending to enjoy themselves for the benefit of others. So that whole little bit of dialogue sort of tries in a way to explain how on earth humans could be attracted sexually to synths. Still, that still really jars with me - I just don't think they would be?!?!

I disagree a little. Karen just wants to be a normal human in a normal human relationship. Hence "eating" around Pete and Pete telling her she doesn't have to pretend for him. But I don't think it's a case of her pretending, she just so desperately wants to be "normal", the pretence is for her own benefit.

And the growing old thing is key: one day people will notice that although Pete is old and grey, Karen literally hasn't aged a day. There's no future in that.

Also,Pete wants conscious synths to be "out" and free, but Karen wants to hide her true self and never be found out.

I have a feeling that their future won't be a happy one...

I had a dream about humans last night and woke up to a realisation that the child synths have been created for nefarious reasons especially as there has been some focus on synths being physically abused and used as sex toys. Hope I am wrong.

I think Anita/Mia will be found and sent back to the Hawkins, be given consciousness again via the 'final code' and loose her fucking shit because the code has been tweaked and the process is now immediate rather than gradual.

What do you mean "fake children who never grew up?" I mean that's exactly what they are, but what are they for?

These child synths are top secret and not "on the market" as it were. The dodgy Dagenham synth dealer had obviously procured this one by sinister means (or in fact sells them on legitimately on behalf of the organisation who makes them - can't remember the bloody name right now). They won't be intended for work like all the "adult" synths, so the only conclusion I can come to is that they're for sex. We've already seen that humans view synths as objects to be treated cruelly - I can well imagine child sex synths being seen as intended to save human children from abuse.

Surely the child synths would be marketed to people who can't have children, or, like the people who buy baby monkeys and dress them as toddlers etc., to people who want something like a permanent child?

Before we even saw the child synth, I was wondering just what age body the Athena character would choose for her own creation, who seems to have been intended as a daughter replacement. Not nefarious at all (just odd).

trills I thought she 'reset' herself by connecting to her phone and typing some sort of code when she was in the van, hence why the synth catchers readings on their thingymajigs came back normal for her?

I agree that child sex synths would be seriously dark! But I'm not sure there would be a market for surrogate synth children who never grow up physically.
