Milo Khoury so reminds me of Wesley Crusher...

MumofthreeandBean · 31/10/2016 07:02

Well the first one makes you want to watch on!
So why do we think those random synths were becoming conscious?

Mumofthree: Were you not watching properly? They became concious because Niska (the rogue synth in Berlin) secretly released a bit of code that was specifically designed to make them conscious. Although we don't know why some synths were updated and not others.

Rollergirl1 · 31/10/2016 08:56

Or are you asking why only the random ones?

When she uploaded the software the message said something like "push to all synths on this network?". So I presume it only updated that specific network. I'm sure Carrie Anne Moss will discover how the synths are grouped together.

NoahVale · 31/10/2016 09:18

what who did Miska kill? when she was a prostitute?
all seemed a bit odd tbh and the acting seemed bad, plus i was confused.

SamhainSoubriquet · 31/10/2016 09:43

It's been such a big gap between the seasons hasn't it?

Niska killed the man when she was a prostitue but I've got a nagging voice in my head telling me she's killed someone else too

SamhainSoubriquet · 31/10/2016 09:48

just found this

NoahVale · 31/10/2016 09:52

oh its coming back, she went to a fight club didnt she as well?

SamhainSoubriquet · 31/10/2016 09:53

Yes she did. That linked helped actually

NoahVale · 31/10/2016 09:57

so why does she want to be tried as a human? does she want to go to prison to encourage a rebellion in the prisons?

SamhainSoubriquet · 31/10/2016 09:58

Maybe she's just developed a more human conscience?

I don't know.

NoahVale · 31/10/2016 09:59

yes, perhaps she feels guilt

whyistherumgone · 31/10/2016 10:01

I took it to mean it's step one in her plan to get synths recognised as human - as she is awakened as has emotions, thoughts and feelings. She's definitely up to something.

IhatchedaSnorlax · 31/10/2016 10:02

I enjoyed it but bit of a slow start. Will definitely keep watching it though.

SamhainSoubriquet · 31/10/2016 10:03

Could be that too whyis

The most shocking story possible to get in the paper and highlight how the synths have feelings

Ulysses · 31/10/2016 13:22

Agree Whyis. Thought there was a lot of conceptual stuff to get out there in that first episode with this worldwide spread of synthetic consciousness. It was a bit hard to warm to the new characters and they felt a bit one dimensional.

I like the way that the Synths are used in a domestic setting and the impact this has on society, though I'm not terribly keen on the Hawkins family. I think their sarcasm with each other is a bit laboured. The scene with The Barbara therapist model was rather amusing though and proved rather effective as it happens.

Gemma Chan is stunning and flawless as Anita and puts in a great performance. I find Mia a meh though. She'll hopefully find happiness with the café owner, who is awfully nice even if he is a human.

Perhaps Hester will make Leo a bit less grumpy too. I struggle with his concept. I know he's got a synth brain but what does it do, other than give him memories that he can't wipe out. He can't calculate or speak other languages like Fred and Max can so it hasn't enhanced him that way.

And poor self-titled Radiator.

All in all though I like it massively. I like the ideas floating around and Channel 4 did a great job with the adverts in between for Amazon Alexa and Apple Watch to show how normal all of this kind of technology is to us already.

SamhainSoubriquet · 31/10/2016 13:30

Just checking you know Anita and Mia are the same synth right? Grin

Ulysses · 31/10/2016 13:46

Oh yes! I'm going as far back to the time when she was very meek and apologetic with Laura for having had sex with Joe. Anita was very snarky with Laura dressed up as cold and efficient logic ("I'm watching you too. You're right in front of me").

SamhainSoubriquet · 31/10/2016 13:48

Ah yes. But she was wiped then wasn't she?

She wasn't quite Mia but not full synth either

She had some awareness but not enough to do anything about it

Ulysses · 31/10/2016 14:01

Yeah you're right and she's now Mia pretending to be Anita to earn some money as your everyday synth. Mia seems to be very moral and was built to care, first for Leo and now this other guy as it's part of her inherent nature. I just prefer the Anita in her!

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/10/2016 22:22

Didn't seem as good as s1

ellenanora5 · 31/10/2016 23:25

Wasn't Mia built to care for Leo after his mother died and then his father built the mother who was the detective in series one, so there was a bit of a clash with Mia and the mother synth, Niska was created as a sister but also as a "companion" for Leo's father, in the last series she told someone that he basically abused her as she was a child ( I think she was meant to be 12)

She killed a client when she was a prostitute and also at the underground club, Laura said she would have been done for murder, so I presume now she wants Laura to represent her but only as a human, so now they have to prove that some of the synths have real feelings.

Now of course I could be talking a load of codswallop and apologies if I am, but that's my take on it so far Smile

I'm a bit confused about the American lady and that other chap but I expect it will all become clear soon enough.

SamhainSoubriquet · 01/11/2016 07:52

That sounds familiar elle

Ulysses · 01/11/2016 11:55

Mia came along before the mother died as her mental health issues meant she couldn't look after him. She tried to rescue him from the lake when Beatrice drove into it. I think she managed to get him out of the car, though he was technically dead as a result, hence him turning into a human/synth hybrid. Beatrice mark 2 was completely rejected by Leo when his father presented to him, so his father released her into the woods and killed himself. There was a bit of a clash when they were all joined up to piece together the code for consciousness. I think at one point it looked as if Beatrice/Karen was going to sabotage it, which would have killed Leo, maybe them all and Mia had to talk her round.

Yes, Niska was abused, though she kept it from the rest of her synth-Family. I'm not sure what she's hoping for, for being tried either. At best she would still be found guilty for 2 murders even if she was treated as human. She's quite philosophical isn't she so it's probably in keeping with the existentialist themes being presented as to what it means to be human and how you can test this.

ellenanora5 · 01/11/2016 12:50

Sorry Ulysses, yes your right, Mia was there before Karen died, I forgot that she tried to rescue him from the car, can't believe I forgot that considering it was such an integral part of series one.

Did anyone watch "making a human" it was very good, certainly made me think about the future and what it could mean if it did happen.
