I also agree that some of the 'humans' working for them are actually hosts too. I also want to know what felix from bond ( can remember his name in this) said to dolores' father before he was sent for decomissioning. And what bad this he's done that thandie Newton asked him about. With Ed Harris' character- I'm sure he said 'he gets what he wants' like he's a special customer for some reason.
I'm intrigued by the whole thing! Can you tell?!

GladysKravitz · 16/10/2016 19:58

I love the series so last night I watched the original film. Jesus it was bad. One of the worst films I've ever watched, and I've seen Showgirls!

I can imagine if you watched it when young you might feel a fondness for it though. But I'm afraid I really couldn't excuse the terrible acting, dialogue (dire-logue more like) and plot holes!

Nermerner · 17/10/2016 09:42

I went to the cinema to see it with my mum who was a massive yul brynner fan Grin

OhMrsQ · 17/10/2016 19:39

please come back when you've seen episode 3! I need to discuss Grin

I'm completely and utterly lost to be honest, I keep changing my mind about what is going on, think I'll have to watch the first two episodes again.

I wondered were the hosts originally human but that couldn't be could it, so as someone else posted maybe its memories from other scenarios they hosted.

ijustwannadance · 17/10/2016 22:24

They did say that they change the hosts storylines every so often but they're not meant to remember. I think they showed thandie newton's characters previous memory flashbacks just to show the mean cowboy has been involved with all of them at some point.

TheHiphopopotamus · 17/10/2016 23:04

So many questions after episode 3!

(Also, I've just realised that the security guy is the third Hemsworth brother)

OhMrsQ · 17/10/2016 23:24

aargh hippo me too!!!!

Just watched episode 3. I can't get enough!

TheHiphopopotamus · 18/10/2016 14:59

When are we allowed to discuss ep 3? Is it on Sky tonight?

ellenanora5 · 18/10/2016 21:11

Yes that makes sense ijustwannadance, she looked so frightened though.

Don't think I'll watch it tonight, I'll wait until the weekend

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 18/10/2016 22:25

Oo, I'm up to date now :)

OhMrsQ · 18/10/2016 22:30

can we talk about it?
please?

Kitsandkids · 18/10/2016 22:33

I'm loving it!

One thing though. They reset every night unless they're involved in a storyline with humans, yes? If that happens they carry on the next day right? What would happen if, say, a human and a robot during their storyline kill the robots who killed Dolores' parents and save her from being raped. They then go off to camp out or whatever but the next day head back to town where the robot sees Dolores cheerfully going to the store. Would he/she not speak to Dolores and ask how she is following her parents' murder and attempted rape? Then she wouldn't know what they were on about, they would be freaked out she can't remember etc. Surely that kind of thing crops up every now and again?

OhMrsQ · 18/10/2016 22:44

oooh what a great question!

perhaps the robots are programmed not to ask certain things?

i'm really not sure. Perhaps you've found a loophole..

Do you think black hat man might be Arnold?

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 18/10/2016 22:48

I honestly have no idea Grin
I did get a bit distracted by the cgi(?) of Anthony Hopkins though. That cannot have just been make up. Did they get a 20 year old lookalike?!

OhMrsQ · 18/10/2016 23:03

Apparently it was all CGI for Hopkins. Amazing.

I think that the William story is in the past, and he is black hat man who is present. And I think he's a good guy, and Hopkins is a baddie.

Arnold I think is dead, and Hopkins based Bernard on him.

I think!

Not watched episode three yet, but DH and I are hooked.

We think:

Ed Harris character is the virus
The boy AH was talking to is either a replica of himself, or possibly of his child who may have died.
The monument tat AH looked towards and told the boy not to come here again might be a gravestone for the boys biological copy

ijustwannadance · 18/10/2016 23:19

I don't think mean cowboy raped dolores. It was just filmed to make it look like that was his intention. No doubt we will find out what he actually does with her further down the line. Fiddling with her memory banks.Wink

Another theory was that he was the original man who survived whatever happened 30 years ago.

I think any robots involved in a storyline would be taken out to the control centre until it had played out and then reset again once humans had left?

I can't watch 3 till tomorrow so will be back to discuss when i've caught up.

It's like jurassic world. Just coz you rebuild it all fancy, doesn't mean it won't bugger up again!Grin

WeShouldOpenABar · 18/10/2016 23:22

I think the female boss is a host

I'm also currently obsessed with why we never see the mother before she dies but she's referred to or called to. Makes me think she's based on a real life person and that reveal is due

KickAssAngel · 18/10/2016 23:35

There are certain phrases which they just say all the time, unless someone throws them a different cue, in which case they improvise. So, robots wouldn't ask about something unless a human was leading them into a different conversation.

But, yes, the technical challenge of having thousands of 'cast members' who don't always synchronize would be huge, and pretty impossible to co-ordinate realistically. Either they'd be too mechanical and not believed, or too random and not make sense to humans who speak to them.

But we're supposed to suspend our disbelief on that, I think. Humans in the park would know that there would be inconsistencies so would gloss over those things, although notice them.

ijustwannadance · 18/10/2016 23:38

Hopkins wife maybe?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 18/10/2016 23:41

MrsQ what do you mean about the William story being in the past? He's the first-time guest isn't he? The one with the sleazy future bil?

FlapsTie · 18/10/2016 23:42

I really like the theory that there are two timelines and William is Ed Harris on his first visit. The train was different, the Westworkd logo was different, they both did the same tin can interaction with her, the other prostitute (not Thandie Newton) was the Madame, the bullets were different (bruised William but bounced off Ed). I think we're seeing two timelines 30yrs apart. And when she ran to William at the end that wasn't immediately following shooting the man in the barn, it was just made to look that way.
