Obviously there's a whole other story about the directors which we don't even know about yet.

I'm wondering if some of the humans who run it are hosts but don't know it. Also whether the maze is a way to get out to freedom, not just for guests/hosts, but also the people who work at the park.

I'm also intrigued to know what life outside of the park is like, so what expectations do guests have from their daily lives. It currently seems pretty close to normal life now, but obviously there's advanced technology.

FlapsTie · 18/10/2016 23:46

I also think the park is on a different planet which is why the Orion carving was so significant.

FlapsTie · 18/10/2016 23:46

Oh yy, some of the staff have to be hosts.

KickAssAngel · 18/10/2016 23:53

And the staff have to stay there for a really long time, and can't always contact home during that time.

FlapsTie · 18/10/2016 23:57

Exactly!

TheHiphopopotamus · 19/10/2016 07:16

Ooh interesting theory about there being two timelines and William being the Gunslinger.

In the first episode when we saw Ford and all the ex-hosts, he was in a place that looked like a derelict version of where William and Logan arrived in Westworld. Also, Ford mentioned an 'incident' that happened 30 years ago, which could be something to do with William's first visit (the one we're seeing now).

Even more confusing but a good theory Grin

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 19/10/2016 08:00

Interesting! I don't remember a tin can/Dolores interaction with William though - but yes we could be seeing flashbacks rather than everything happening during the same era.

Kitsandkids · 19/10/2016 08:07

Hmm, interesting possibility about 2 timelines. I guess we'll see what happens with Dolores and him next week and see if it ties in with what's happening in the 'present.'

What do you think happened with the woodcutter? That seemed a bit random - a character we've not met going rogue. Did he try and kill himself with the rock because he was scared he was going to kill her otherwise?

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 19/10/2016 08:08

Oo I like the two timeline theory!!
I'm quite sure I remember reading that they have made the 'bad guy' human this time, unlike the film, but maybe they weren't talking about the gunslinger...?

And yes, some of the staff are definitely hosts. I guess the woman who was out looking for the wandering host in the last ep for one.

Nermerner · 19/10/2016 08:08

I lost interest last night. It badly needs some humour. Also thandie Newton irritates the hell out of me. She's very weak.

FlapsTie · 19/10/2016 08:08

I need to watch it all again, I bet there's loads I've missed.

TheHiphopopotamus · 19/10/2016 08:26

Have loads of questions from ep 3 though.

How come Teddy's guns didn't work on Wyatt's gang? Were they human?

Could Dolores not fire a gun (when she was with Teddy) because it wasn't part of her storyline?

In the first ep, Dolores went home to her father who was on the porch wittering about the photo, the gang/rape scene didn't happen, so was that a different storyline/timeline?

(I'm wondering if Dolores running off is part of Hopkins new storyline actually)

Why does The Gunslinger (Ed Harris) appears to be part of all the flashbacks so far?

Does James Marsden (Teddy) never age in real life? Is he actually a robot in real life? Wink

Argh, it's messing with my head this show, but I'm loving it Grin

ijustwannadance · 19/10/2016 08:35

Two time lines makes perfect sense. I made comment to dp when we first saw the burned out escalator scene.

One line that stuck in my head, "don't be fooled by appearance. Delores is the oldest host in the park" hosts don't age.
Ed harris also said, "I've been coming here for 30 years."
Maybe him and ford were the only 2 human survivors years ago.

They keep throwing in tidbits then other things to throw us off.

Maybe dolores mum is someone we've already seen. Like an original copy of boss lady.

TheHiphopopotamus · 19/10/2016 09:34

Maybe him and ford were the only 2 human survivors years ago

In the film, William was the only survivor in the actual park when the hosts went rogue. I definitely think you're onto something.

If William is now EH's character in the future and he survived, it might explain why he's now allowed to do whatever he likes with the hosts.

TheHubblesWindscreenWipers · 19/10/2016 09:47

I think there are two timelines.

I also think the whole park is something bigger - the scenes last night in which 'corporate' were mentioned seem to imply both that some of the technical people are hosts and that there's a different purpose for the park.
They are clearly trying to make 'true' 'strong AI' - why? Perhaps to clone/replace ageing humans or bring back a true copy of those who have died?

Kitsandkids · 19/10/2016 11:18

I'm guessing Bernard wants to make them more 'real' so that he can make a 'real' version of his son.

KickAssAngel · 19/10/2016 12:45

A moment of clarity this morning: They're in purgatory, or it's a metaphor for it.

All the 'real' people are having to atone for something, and finding the maze is a sign that they've paid for their sins.

ijustwannadance · 19/10/2016 12:55

Wasn't that the idea behind the series 'lost'?Grin

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 19/10/2016 13:31

Just put me in mind of the Keeley Hawes thing - Life on Mars?

KickAssAngel · 19/10/2016 14:53

There was no idea behind Lost - it was a bunch of good looking people running around getting sweaty and making up crap. (worked for me)

Let's hope that Westworld doesn't go the same way.

TheHiphopopotamus · 19/10/2016 14:56

Would purgatory really involve shooting at things that look human and shagging everything that moves though? Confused It's hardly atoning for your sins if you're still doing the same kind of stuff that put you there in the first place Grin

FlapsTie · 19/10/2016 16:14

I have a vague theory brewing that it's something to do with preserving the human race, who are dying out but don't actually know it yet.

FlapsTie · 19/10/2016 16:19

Anthony Hopkins said something about being able to cure any disease and keep everyone alive in the first episode. Maybe nature is fighting back and people are becoming sterile? So they are trying to create artificial life instead?

It's a work in progress Grin

KickAssAngel · 20/10/2016 00:11

They also said something about not feeling powerful in the real world so coming to WW to feel power - I'm not thinking a literal purgatory, but maybe after living a life where they can't do lots of things, this is where they get to be strong and free before finding their way through the maze.

but yy, also noticed comments about people not getting sick etc.

fwiw - those wondering about the Shakespeare quote - violent ends etc - it's from Romeo and Juliet, and is a prescient view of how being too emotional will lead to a violent ending.

ijustwannadance · 20/10/2016 08:25

After watching 3 it definately looks like it's showing 2 timelines at the same time.

The bit at the end after dolores shoots the cowboy then it cutting to her fainting on william was filmed to make it look like it had just happened.

We know that the hosts became emotional before the first disaster and now they are again.

Didn't recognise Arnold from the old photo but wondering if Ford downloaded his consciousness after he died, but into the mainframe rather than a host. Unless it's ed harris as it sounded like his voice that told dolores to kill the cowboy.

Interesting about the constelations too which does seem to point to another planet.

Still confused though!ConfusedGrin
