2 years ago a thread on Our Girl was started with these words ^Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it^

40,000 posts, fireside wrestling contests, fan-fiction, autograph requests, carol concerts, CJ Grand Tours later we are about to watch the last episode of series 2. And that first post is a distant memory.

Yes, didn't realise the man in the suit standing in the doorway was CJ at first. Yes, a nice change from the puffy jacket etc.

Ilovelblue · 05/10/2016 22:23

It made me cringe when Georgie's mother said to Jamie's mother something like "God's pencil couldn't have drawn us abetter son in law". And that pre-wedding speech her Dad did made me cringe even more!

Ilovelblue · 05/10/2016 22:25

Not that this will interest the majority of you, but the news report where the newsreader was saying that anyone with any knowledge of Abu's whereabouts should contact the police etc is actually a genuine newsreader on our local BBC North West Tonight programmes.

Heligirl79 · 05/10/2016 22:26

Hmmm from me too. I found it a bit boring and then it all ended up being a bit rushed at the end.

Although it was watchable, I really didn't enjoy this series as much as the first and I felt like it lost its way a little and the army part was in the background.

I think CJ was wasted in this series, I think they just brought that character back in to link this series to the first, we never even found out why he changed his mind about leaving the army. I can't see him back for a 3rd series.

I though it would have been nice if the had done a little piece on Molly and CJ like they did with Georgie and Elvis before the series started.

Rhubarb01 · 05/10/2016 22:30

Ok, I have a request, for series 3 - I understand that Georgie is her own woman etc but after she's been out and saved the world and fufilled her career ambitions, been through some tough situations and proved her mettle, please could she be reconciled with Elvis and live Happy Ever After - no weddings required! Thanks!

giantcar · 05/10/2016 22:31

Feel unsure about this finale. I'm glad she chose her freedom and Elvis, but I didn't like the way she did that. Especially when she came back to Jamie, and put her head on his shoulder. What was she expecting? Sympathy?!

Bit disappointed tbh.

Ilovelblue · 05/10/2016 22:34

I second that Rhu, or rather "Ditto" in CJ speak.

Are we doing a final watchalong? When is good for everyone?

Rhubarb01 · 05/10/2016 22:35

Actually, if you think about it Georgie told Elvis in the prequel that she was not the settling down sort of girl - it was pretty obvious that neither of the weddings was going to come off. Bet her sisters are miffed though and they'll be begging her NEVER to get married - you know that expression "Three times a bridesmaid, never a bride!"

Rhubarb01 · 05/10/2016 22:40

Oh there's lots of material for a watchalong ilove. DH wandrered in and started watching for about 15 minutes which was highly annoying but I found myself making lots of comments out loud about it.

Not sure I'll be back here for 9pm on Friday this week - could do Saturday if that's any good?

Ilovelblue · 05/10/2016 22:46

Saturday is far better for me. I am going to see my elderly friend with the sick husband so would be unlikely to get home before 9. Saturday after SCD?

I need to watch again as there were a few scenes where I didn't catch all the words!

I tell you what has irritated me a bit and that is that neither Georgie nor Elvis seem to pronounce their "t"s properly. So for "critical", Elvis kept saying "cri'ical". My neighbour has a bad habit of doing that - it's as if she's watched too many sessions of Eastenders.

icemistOBE · 05/10/2016 22:53

I though it was the Hilton at first, but pretty sure it was the Sky Garden

Yum yum

Rhubarb01 · 05/10/2016 22:54

Saturday's good for me about 9pm? Looking forward to SCD Movie week - I reckon from the training footage that Claudia's, to coin a phrase, "Gonna smash it1"

As for OG - I just went straight for subtitles and no 'mess'in'! I can't bear ear straining for the words. That's one thing Molly Dawes loud mouth was good for - clear pronunciation.

Don't think CJ will be around for series 3 but Id love to see BA in some sort of Spooks type spy thing - especially if he wears a suit a lot and doesn't say ASAP. Shame Spooks has finished now.

MaddieMoo82 · 05/10/2016 22:56

Apart from very hot CJ in a suit and blazer doing shots it was a bit meh from me. I actually found myself fast forwarding a couple of bits as I was watching with a bit of a delay. Definately on board for series 3 though and will be interested to see where TG takes it.

Nickel45 · 05/10/2016 22:58

Any better fire?

Rhubarb01 · 05/10/2016 22:59

Actually, in episode 5 CJ was more like a teacher trying to keep the naughty school boys in check or they'd get detention and then he did the Headmaster chat with Elvis as well - "In here now, I need a word!" - that worked a treat didn't it?

Bless Brains though, he's so sweet! Liked the comment about the bum moulded in chocolate though!

Nickel45 · 05/10/2016 23:00

Oops. Sorry mads, didn't see you'd already posted!

Ilovelblue · 05/10/2016 23:12

Sorry ice obviously my knowledge of Manchester is nowhere near as good as yours. I've never even heard of the Sky Garden.

I wonder where the church is for the wedding that never was?

MaddieMoo82 · 05/10/2016 23:14

Doesn't matter nickel I'm happy to look at that picture again and again. Smile

KellyHb · 05/10/2016 23:15

So are we assuming that Georgie is dating Elvis now then but she's still gone back to Kenya anyway?

cjwoofwoof · 05/10/2016 23:17

Evening! Thank you for all the lovely reviews and comments on my Hunt for Aysapp story - after tonight's debacle I'm sure there's a chapter two in me.

My verdict on finale: a pile of poo

Favourite bits:

Elvis's top lip in the ambulance looking beautifully vulnerable
Erm...
Erm...
Erm...
That's it Sad

Poo parts:

I'm sorry but CJ looked like a Geography teacher in a suit - ffs get your Afghan grimed combats back on man and stop shhhhing your sss's. He was a complete pussy throughout the episode. Where's the furrowed brow? Where's the arm folding legs apart Captain Shoutybastard? Wheres the "did it work?" smoulder? I fear Molly has turned him into Cardigan Man and it ain't pretty

Forgiving parents when 2 x church wedding non-events would've cost them a goddam fortune. I would at least shout and stomp about for a few days and probably give the wayward child the bill to be paid back in weekly instalments

How did blood spatter on the marksmans gunsights when he was up in the gallery? That was some speed to fly that far and yet Georgie who was stood right next to him didn't get any on her

Why didn't Abu try and change his appearance if he knew the SAS were onto him? Didn't even shave off his beard or dye his hair - amateur

Boring, boring boring for a good 50 mins then it had to wind up pretty pronto. And by then I simply didn't care.

Yes I'm very slightly furious.

MaQueen · 05/10/2016 23:23

I think in series 3 it will be very on/off with Elvis to keep us all guessing. Bit like Cybil Shepherd and Bruce Willis in Moonlighting (remember that?).

I thought this was the weakest episode by far, and a bit dull.

Rhubarb01 · 05/10/2016 23:29

Just been taking a gander at the comments on the BBC One Facebook after it was announced there would be a third series. Many of them say they've enjoyed the series and are glad to see another but also many are disappointed by the ending and said the last episode was a bit boring.

I think the stand out episode was 2 - that had grit and tension. I didn't mind three and there was some good tension in episode 4 but I didn't like episode 1 or 5 very much. I think that episode 4 or something like it would have been better for this last episode. I even felt a little bit sorry for Dr Jamie and yes woof I don't believe Georgie's parents would have been so forgiving although they should have been telling her not to rush into marriage in the first place after all that business in Kenya.

Rhubarb01 · 05/10/2016 23:33

MaQueen I loved Moonlighting - well it was fine until Maddie and David actually got it together - the verbal sparring and sexual tension beforehand was the best.

Rhubarb01 · 05/10/2016 23:37

Just one thing - putting aside any issues about the story - do we think that Elvis redeemed himself just a little? He took a bullet to save Georgie!
