2 years ago a thread on Our Girl was started with these words ^Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it^

40,000 posts, fireside wrestling contests, fan-fiction, autograph requests, carol concerts, CJ Grand Tours later we are about to watch the last episode of series 2. And that first post is a distant memory.

Afternoon. Sorry to hear about your mum ice. From what I have heard about hospices from a few people I know it sounds as if they do some wonderful work and the whole focus is on allowing people to live as fully as they are able even when they are suffering from conditions which make things difficult for them and their families. I hope it helps your mum and all of you.

I saw the trailers you all mentioned the other day about that new drama set during the second world war and then I remembered seeing something about it a few months ago. It's set in Northern Ireland and is about the effect the arrival of a massive American airforce base has on the local community (apparently there's a handsome American Liaison Officer!! Let's hope he's a Captain Grin then he can go on the LLC's list) The article I read said it was pre-watershed so I'm assuming it's an 8pm Sunday night drama - we'll see, but it looked like it could be good. I hope there's some warm humour in it as I need a bit of that on a Sunday night! I think that's why I liked The Durrells too.

The music from the first series of OG is so evocative. It seems to get used quite a lot now but it just brings back 'feelings' whenever I hear it. Yes, there's no getting away from how great the first series was. I hope the third series brings back a bit of the magic. I'm not sure how it will but maybe, let's cross our fingers.

Did anyone see Poldark on Sunday night? Oh goodness me I was thinking of woof as I watched those scenes where Demelza goes to the Ball and all the shenanigans later that night. It was like Carry On Poldark! That gave me a laugh. Unfortunately, putting aside any issues about the notorious Elizabeth incident I still keep looking at Ross and thinking what an idiot - even heroes can behave like totally prats sometimes - not our favourite Captain though!

kazzaD66 · 02/11/2016 17:50

Sorry to hear about your mum ice and can only reiterate what others have said.

Not feeling great today. DH has passed the lurgy to me so had a bit of an OG wallow this pm. Listened to the London Grammar CD whilst ironing, which then prompted me to watch S1 Eps 1&2 in their entirety rather than just fast forwarding to the CJ bits which is something I haven't done for nearly two years, I reckon. It just reminded me of how good it was - CJ and Molly chemistry, lots of 2 Section, lots of actual army action / life and fantastic music. I've now got to find the time to watch the remaining 3 eps Grin

ice I think you might know from my Facebook posts that t I do fundraising through work for our local children's hospice and it is truly staggering the work the hospice movement does. I know the children's organisation is going to be different but the staff who work in these places are so dedicated and I am sure your Mum will be more comfortable with people to help her 24x7. They offer respite care and longer term care. The uncle of a friend of mine had respite care in our adult hospice for several years off and on. Hopefully, it will ultimately take some pressure off your sister who I guess is being chief carer at the moment?

Did something incredibly stupid today and forgot to take my handbag to work with me. How I forgot is beyond me! So, no glasses, no phone and no money. Luckily, I live within a 20 minute drive home from work so had to nip back at lunchtime to collect it.

It has been so quiet on here so you must all be doing exciting things or you've fallen out with the rest of us?!

Rhu off to bed now to read your update and to be transported back in time.

icemistOBE · 03/11/2016 08:08

Thanks ilove Flowers Drs have said it's to make things easier for mum and my sister. It will be more like a home from home than hospital. Better visiting hours etc

This year has been totally shite! Made all the better by my lovely OG friends StarStarStar

Afternoon all! Gosh it is so quiet these days - I'm really missing you all and the banter! I suppose it might be half-term still in some places but mine went back on Monday thank goodness.

Anyone watching 'The Missing'? I'm really enjoying it and was pleased to say I'd guessed the twist at the end of last night's episode. I just hope when we get to the end everything ties up properly. I'm also looking forward to the new Stephen Poliakoff drama 'Close to the Enemy' starting next week. I enjoyed the last one 'Dancing on the Edge' with one of our favourites, Matthew Goode. They're always slightly odd and quirky stories but it looks atmospheric!

ooh just to add to my post yesterday - yes I believe the handsome American is in fact a Captain and from what I could find out he's played by an actor who was in 'Mad Men' - not Don Draper unfortunately, but can't have everything!

Sorry, nothing else OG to report. Come back to us, though, everyone, even if it's just ramblings about domestic stuff - I'm hoovering my house and cleaning the bathroom - it's all rock 'n roll at Lechley Towers!

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2016 13:45

Just one more witter about TV drama - Anyone thinking of watching that Netflix drama 'The Crown' about the Queen? I'm undecided about it because I'm afraid it might be a bit cringey. I can't help thinking that HM and hubby will be sat on the sofa watching and laughing at it and the she will be saying in her best spitting image voice, "Goodness Philip, that Dr Who chap has got you 'orff to a tee!"

icemistOBE · 03/11/2016 16:22

I'm going to watch it Rhu although I still have the last episode of Victoria to watch as well.

Don't know where everyone's gone.... Are we outcasts on here?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2016 16:41

I'm beginning to wonder ice if there's a really great party somewhere that everyone forgot to invite us to!

Seriously, though, I could keep wittering on for England about very little but if we get to the next thread - and this is about a record for how long this one's been running - I reckon we might have to call it the "I love Icy Rhubarb discussion thread." that would definitely fox a few people who wonder what this is all about.

Only joking ladies Grin. It's that time of year - dare I whisper that word Christmas approaching etc and things to do. Plus we need some gossip to dissect - come on TG get yourself tantalisingly photographed somewhere with LT, LP, BA just about anyone! (I left out MK as I now she's a cert!)

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2016 16:43

I even know she's sure to be in series 3 - isn't she?

moojangles · 03/11/2016 16:56

Still lurking! Loving The Missing. Work is melting my brain!

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2016 17:03

My sympathies Mooj my work is more likely to turn me into a zombie - but they pay me so musn't grumble. I need this thread and FF to divert me and keep my mind ticking over about other things.

'The Missing' is one of the few things that keeps me awake in front of the telly - oh and 'The Apprentice' which is always good for a laugh and to guess who's going to win and who's going to get fired.

Ilovelblue · 03/11/2016 17:12

I'm with you two ice and Rhu thinking everyone is deserting us.

I must be one of the very few on here who has rewatched S2. I meant to lend my friend/neighbour the DVD when she came for tea earlier in the week but forgot, despite the fact it was staring us both in the face. I am hoping she will want to dissect in minute detail as she is already a fan of LP.

Did some idle googling of LP this morning but all that comes up is the break up between him and that girl from Little Mix. Doesn't float my boat really. Found a very nice photo of him in a dinner jacket though and a cute little interview from This Morning.

Having problems with the bottom of my back at the moment so after 3 weeks, have now decided it is time to go and see my physio. I can sit and stand, but getting from one to the other isn't always easy. Heaven only knows what I've done.

Off home now. See you all later (I hope).

icemistOBE · 03/11/2016 17:37

I've re-watched it ilove and I've downloaded the scripts to read on my way to/from work

Have you seen the latest CJ? Such a talented lady!

I'm here rhu, just drowning in a constant cycle of being bogged down with work, kids, parents, house repairs, repeat!! The only programme I've really been keeping up with is the missing, which I'm absolutely loving!! I thought it was 5 eps, but pleasantly surprised to discover it's 8.

icemistOBE · 03/11/2016 17:38

How's the new house Jen?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2016 17:52

Glad you're ok Jen although sorry to hear about all the hassle. I think 'The Missing' is the one drama that you feel you can't miss anything because every little detail could be important although I reckon there are quite a few red herrings in there.

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2016 17:56

That's a cute little CJ ice but he's missing his sabre or would woof refer to it as his cutlass?

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2016 17:57

Actually I expect woof would tell us that she's seen CJ rattle his sabre many a time Grin.

Ilovelblue · 03/11/2016 18:16

....... and where is said woof?

Onlygirljen · 03/11/2016 18:17

ice ill go with MrJen's optimistic assessment of it as a work in progress Hmm. It'll be great when it's all done.

rhu I'm still scratching my head trying to work it all out!! Did Sam have a secret child who was in the shed, or did fake Alice dump the body and escape..? So many questions! I do think Henry reed is a red herring, think he could be proven to be one of the good guys in the end. I do love a good mystery!

kazzaD66 · 03/11/2016 18:29

Can't spot a wedding ring on mini CJ either, although my eye sight's not great, but nonetheless it's really good.

Rhubarb01 · 03/11/2016 18:33

SPOILERS ALERT don't read if you haven't watched The Missing yet and intend to

Jen right from the start when fake Alice asked her brother to lock her in the shed I thought it was strange that they focused a shot on the key left in the lock on the outside as he went back into the house. I thought someone else had probably let her out of the shed or possibly got a spare key cut etc. I think the real Alice had died in captivity and they put her body in the shed before they set fire to it. I reckon fake Alice is in league with the abductors now/identifying with them because of all the years of abuse and being held as a prisoner AND we saw the camper van which had been repainted in Switzerland in the last episode. Not sure about the third girl yet.

I think something really dodgy happened in Iraq during the Iraq war (the man in the antiquities place talking about his sister when she was 9!) with that group of soldiers including the Brigadier and Henry Reed possibly - also the wife of the butcher Nadia? Herz was in Iraq with them and the Bridgadier said "She was a mess in Iraq". We know there's a bit of SM or something whatever you want to call it that's gone on with her husband although I don't think he had anything to do with the abduction of the girls and that's a red herring - fake Alice said to tell him she was sorry - he was set up as the fall guy.

I'd like to know who the father of that soldier's baby is. Would she really be allowed to be working even as an MP at eight months pregnant?

So much to get to the bottom of yet!

Nickel45 · 03/11/2016 20:39

I'm still here too! Had no wifi for half term, then succumbed to the lurgy and had DH away so haven't had time to get on here while the kids were in the bath! 24/7 parenting, ugh!, will be hopefully back to normal next week haven't seen the missing, but have been catching up on hustle from a million years ago. Liked that! Oh and GBBO of course. Supposed to be listening to littlie read, so will be back later unless I fall asleep again on her bedroom floor!

Ilovelblue · 04/11/2016 00:01

Rhu looks as if our comment about being Billy no mates on here must have been a call to arms! I think there's only Maddie and woof missing now. Neither have been heard of for a while. Are you there ladies?

Rhubarb01 · 04/11/2016 07:17

Ilove you're burning the midnight oil up there! Yes, I reckon we should have a roll-call every morning on here. I will make it a resolution to say at least 'hello' even if I've nothing to report. - so morning Rhu present!

Off to work for a while and it's damp down here today - what's that about damp squibs seeing as we are about to have a whole weekend of fireworks. Actually, because it's a Saturday this year it probably won't last a week like it did last year.

I'm taking DD to look at a college tomorrow for sixth form although she'll probably decide to stay at school and might go to the cinema on Sunday but I don't think we'll be doing any fireworks here. Luckily, we have the weirdest dog in the world as he doesn't mind fireworks, thunder or the vacuum cleaner - I promise you he's not deaf as he can hear the fridge door opening from the other side of the house.

Anyone likely to be around for SCD chat along on Saturday? I know I am desperate but no one else watches here and they make 'don't care' comments if I try to say anything about it.

Have a good day - hopefully be back later.
