Because we can't wait until next year for season 3. Highbrow discussion of Jamie's knees, hair and anything else Outlander

I was cheering a. Bit late admittedly at the woo derail news that we have episode 6 next week Grin

Hang on Possible spoiler or I've got it all wrong.........but isn't Roger Gellis and Doughal's child, born in 60s after she went back or forward or whatever ? Hmm Confused

snozzlemaid · 10/10/2017 21:55

No. Roger isn’t their child. But is a descendant of that child.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/10/2017 21:56

No, Roger is a descendant of Geilis and Dougals’s child (I think). Geilis went back to the 1700’s and stayed there. She go backwards and forwards like Claire does.

Doesn’t Roger come across one of his ancestors on the boat?

snozzlemaid · 10/10/2017 21:56

There’s no way we will have episode 6 next week. We won’t get it before the US.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/10/2017 21:57

doesn’t go backwards and forwards.

JuneFromBethesda · 10/10/2017 22:09

Loved the ending, but a 99% Jamie-less episode was hard going.

This sums it up for me. I didn't really care about Claire's insecurity about her looks, and the skull thing was even more ridiculous on tv (because I could skim over it in the book) ... but as she ended up in Edinburgh and I realised they were going to give us the reunion, albeit only the first minute of it, I relaxed - I can almost bear two weeks of waiting now that I've seen them in the same room together again Grin

Middleoftheroad · 10/10/2017 22:19

And is that skeleton from the Caribbean Gellis?

DryWhiteagainW · 10/10/2017 22:47

Two weeks again?

AKAmyself · 11/10/2017 07:10

Finally watched it last night! The experience was slightly marred by the fact that I had just had a massive fight with dh Sad (nothing to do with outlander).

Things I loved: every second of Caitriona Balfe on screen. Such a rich, layered performance, I like screen Claire so much better than book Claire (for example the line about she being the one knowing Brianna best of all in the world which in the book comes from Brees mouth is so much stronger and truer coming from her mother). The clothes! I think we hit peak chic and I died with the brooch Claire wears on her scrubs, reminded me so much of my grandma who always wore brooches.
Joe was lovely
The puddle transition was clever and elegant and I'm so glad they skipped all the nonsens about pbj sandwiches!

Things I didn't love:
The bones - meh
Briannas dialogue was once again stilted and awkward
Jamie's weird sideways faint

Things I feel undecided about:
Roger in Boston looked so lonely and out of place, and I'm not sure I liked him there
SS was much better in this episode, so here's hoping
The OW scene was powerful but somehow too much

SenecaFalls · 11/10/2017 14:25

The clothes!

One of the best things about Outlander in almost every episode. Kudos to Terry Dresbach.

ToniMumsnet · 11/10/2017 14:28

I'd totally forgotten about the Sandwich bit and the whole carriage journey was a bit tedious too.

SenecaFalls · 11/10/2017 14:29

The puddle thing was brilliant.

quirkychick · 11/10/2017 14:53

Oh, yes the clothes! The whole thing always looks beautiful.

SeveredPixieBits · 11/10/2017 15:22

Oh yes, I'd totally blocked out the pbj and the carriage journey.

JuneFromBethesda · 11/10/2017 16:58

I have now watched the last three minutes of ep.5 counts on fingers 8 times.

Thank god my copy of Drums of Autumn arrived today - that will hopefully get me through the next two miserable weeks ...

DryWhiteagainW · 11/10/2017 16:59

Thought Claire looked stunning in the black Jackie O outfit with pillbox hat, so beautiful.

Think SH is wearing a wig. Why? Did he cut his hair fabulous IRL for a film?

Sen E6 trailer .....v excited!

snozzlemaid · 11/10/2017 17:13

New casting news for S4

SeveredPixieBits · 11/10/2017 17:33

Ooh. Very interesting. Maria Doyle Kennedy is a fabulous actress but nothing like the Jocasta in my head. I bet she will be amazing.
I don't know Ed Speleers at all.

SeveredPixieBits · 11/10/2017 17:39

I think I always picture Jocasta as being too old though. She's supposed to be in her sixties I think, but in my head she is a proper grey haired, wrinkled yet beautiful old lady.

ToniMumsnet · 11/10/2017 17:47

I just read an article that says SH is blonde hair in real life. Is it possible he didn't want to dye his hair this season?

SenecaFalls · 11/10/2017 17:51

Oh, two more Downton Abbey alums. Did anyone notice that the Brianna's professor in episode 5 was Lord Merton in Downton?

snozzlemaid · 11/10/2017 18:05

Thought I recognised him from somewhere.
I always pictured Janet McTeer as Jocasta. Not sure Maria looks old enough and I don’t think Ed looks rough enough. Too much of a pretty boy look at the moment.
But I’m open to being persuaded otherwise.

GreatWhites · 11/10/2017 19:04

Ooooh Maria Doyle Kennedy is like the Jocasta in my head, discounting her dark hair. And she's quite like SH.

For some reason Bonnet quite strongly resembles the shorter one from Ant and Dec in my head Confused

LonelyOversharer · 11/10/2017 19:05

Oh thankyou seneca I couldn't place him but cba to google. Which caracter did the guy cast for Bonnet play? I had Bonnet down as a bit Russel Crow.

I thought of Jacosta as a very willowy red head. They don't go grey, my mum is almost 70 and still bright ginger, she has less white hairs than me she points this out a lot! I take it Murtagh will do the honours and find some happiness (he was in love with her older sister, afterall).

Already pissed off waiting for ep6, and it's only wednesday

gamerwidow · 11/10/2017 19:12

Not how I picture Jocasta and Bonnet bit they’ve d
