What a way to start.

I'm loving the montages on the BBC.

Favourite Team GB moment/s - Laura Trott winning gold, gymnastics medals and badminton bronze.

Non Team GB moment/s - Fiji winning gold in the rugby sevens and the South African breaking the 400m WR

Noooo it's overrrr
Thanks for the schedules Red
See you all when the Paralympics thread starts.

RedToothBrush · 21/08/2016 21:07

Goodbye to Rio.

You were fun, troubled, imperfect, wonderful, heartbreaking, uplifting, frustrating, surprising and unexpected.

You were not what you I thought you would be. For good and for bad.

You were Rio. Nothing more, nothing less.

Brazilian memories that are shared around the world. Memories that I will keep like those of Los Angeles, Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney, Athens, Beijing and those to the highs of London. Those rare global moments of unity and positivity, even if sometimes flawed or controversial.

Team GB, you exceeded my wildest dreams and made me proud to be British in a moment when it was needed. You can not possibly match that again. Can you?

Now onwards to Tokyo. I look forward to meeting again. The world will have changed, but I hope you hold memories like those of Rio.

See you in four years.

Star Star Star Star Star

RedToothBrush · 21/08/2016 21:08

Well, after the ParaOlympics of course. Which will be different again I'm sure.

DesolateWaist · 21/08/2016 21:11

I've already checked out the start date on Tokyo. Fortunately it looks like it will be the same week as the schools break up for holidays. I'm a teacher so I'll have the time off.
The time difference is even worse though.

Yep, it's been a good one for GB alright!

My favourite moments were:
Charlotte Dujardin's gold (I couldn't stop crying, totally caught me unawares!)
Max Whitlock
Nick Skelton
Mo Farah
All the velodrome action
Adam Peaty
Alastair and Johnny Brownlee
Leon Taylor's commentary
William Fox-Pitt just for being able to compete (was in a coma following a fall from a young horse in Oct last year)
Usain Bolt
Simone Biles

I'm sure there's more I've forgotten! Cannot wait for Tokyo!!!!!!!

IwannaSnorlax · 21/08/2016 22:16

Red you've just made me cry! Very true words!

Can't believe they're over for another 4 years. Looking forward to the Paralympics but given we'll be back to work (deliberately took our holidays so we could watch the Olympics) & the DCs back to school, I'm not sure how much we'll get to watch given the time difference & schedule.

Desolate where did you get the Tokyo information? Would love to be able to save enough to go to watch them!

Mirandawest · 21/08/2016 23:27

I looked on the Wikipedia page and they start 24th July and finish the 9th August.

I remember the world athletics championships being in Tokyo in 1991 and watching finals live in the middle of the day I think.

dizzyfeck · 22/08/2016 01:19

Watching closing ceremony! What are team GB wearing on their feet? Red, white and blue light up shoes? Now they're waving them about Grin

dizzyfeck · 22/08/2016 01:52

Oh bless, the British media can't be positive. It's getting quite funny.

The Japan handover was beautiful. It will be fantastic in 2020!

Mine too, it will be an amazing mix of old classic rich culture with Hello Kitty and Godzilla. I love it Smile

Lifegavemelemons · 22/08/2016 02:28

Are we really watching dancing vegetables? The green ones look just like brocolli - I'm not getting this dance :-)

Now wondering if the fake rain really will put the flame out?

ftw · 22/08/2016 02:47

Anyone else cross that a two-week long celebration of everything the human body can do finished with some mostly baked chicks on a float jiggling?

ftw · 22/08/2016 02:47

*naked, not baked FFS

dizzyfeck · 22/08/2016 02:56

That's carnival, ironic that people complained there wasn't enough carnival in the opening ceremony. Now complaining that there's carnival at the end. They really should make complaining an Olympic sport, team GB would be laughing, the number of golds would push them up to first place Grin

But who is this commentator? bugging me

cathyandclare · 22/08/2016 07:53

I've only seen the highlights but those looked fantastic and the Tokyo taster was stunning; slick, fun and brilliantly done.
I even loved our flashing shoes!
No excuse for not getting on with work now :(

TendonQueen · 22/08/2016 07:56

So enjoyable. What's the start date for the Paralympics? Very much looking forward to the Last Leg nightly coverage.

I'm now thinking of entering the ballot for London 2017 tickets - has anyone done this?

Mirandawest · 22/08/2016 08:04

I'm going to enter the ballot for tickets for London 2017 and will see what happens Smile

NigellasGuest · 22/08/2016 08:23

What is the time difference with Tokyo anyone ?

And another question - where will 2024 games be? I had Paris in my head but not sure if correct.

These games were great - sad it's all over. The English football team could learn a lot . They will never be as good as team GB!

Lweji · 22/08/2016 08:40

8 hours difference ATM.
I still remember the World Cup with games in the morning and lunch time.

Paris
Rome
Budapest
Los Angeles

Hollande has been on a charming offensive, which is probably why it has been on people's minds.

Mirandawest · 22/08/2016 09:22

I think the next Olympics will be decided next year - I remember it was announced to be London in 2005 which was 5 years before the 2012 games

dizzyfeck · 22/08/2016 11:40

The old English football. Boys don't play enough football together just to have fun, too many clubs and rules. That's my theory.

It would be nice for a different city to have it, Budapest would be great!
