Well, I'm enjoying this series enormously and I'm with the tiny minority that's really liked Arya's storyline.

Re the Blackfish - we didn't see him die. I know it was a Lannister man who came to tell Jaime they'd found him, but suppose he didn't die and put somebody else into his armour, then made off? That's what I'd like to happen, anyway.

Clive Russell (Blackfish) has a daughter a few years older than my children who went to the same primary school. I've stood in the same school hall as him a couple of times. I thought he was a shoo in for Hagrid before the HP films were cast. He's very tall indeed.

TheNorthRemembers · 14/06/2016 08:35

I am still laughing at all the comments.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/06/2016 08:42

^
Anyone else laugh out loud when the Hound was asked how he was enjoying his rib and he said he preferred chicken?^

Did I miss a bit of cannibalism, then? Were they eating the men they'd just hung? Shock

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 14/06/2016 08:50

I don't think the blackfish is dead

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/06/2016 08:52

I'm still not 100% convinced Stannis is dead, tbh. In GOT unless we see the body it's often not a certainty, and as we all know, not even then...

LadyStarkOfWinterfell · 14/06/2016 08:58

Stannis is dead I'm sure - we saw brienne swipe his head area with a sword and she wouldn't have left him alive. I know brienne failed to kill the hound but that would be a weird plot device to use twice and also what value would stannis have to the story?

ElspethFlashman · 14/06/2016 09:03

I hate to say this but Tyrion has been incredibly boring this year.

Arya's story has dragged on way too long and now she's talking about going off the edge of the map??? OK then Arya, best of luck. I'm going to be over here ignoring all of that.

So the Hound is going to join the BWB after all and is going to go North and meet Sansa. Ugh. The Sansan shippers are gonna love that one. He'll probably look at her with respect now cos she's all kick ass and it'll be somehow validating that an asshole murderer thinks she's cool. Bleeuugh.

On a more.positive note, I dreamt last night that Dany and Tyrion each hopped up on a dragon and soared around the bay roaring Dracarys so the dragons would burn all the ships. It was COOL. (So cool it probably won't happen but it was a great dream!)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/06/2016 09:07

I'm pretty sure we cut away from the scene with Stannis and Brienne before she killed him and we didn't see his body afterwards. I agree it's hard to see what good he could do now, but they don't normally flinch from showing us death scenes or severed heads.

ILikeToClean · 14/06/2016 09:22

mumanddad I'm also worried about Tormund next week!

Another thought - when the waif killed Lady Crane, why didn't she just kill Arya then when she was in bed asleep?!

It did seem a bit anti-climatic for a guard to announce that the Blackfish had died fighting rather than us see anything.

Thought it quite sweet when Missandei got the taste for wine and was getting slowly bladdered! And Greyworm is transformed when he smiles!

NeedACleverNN · 14/06/2016 09:26

I don't think Brienne would lie about killing Stannis.

She is very much black and white

I have to do my job whether I like it or not and if that means fighting a friend to hold up my oath I will

Fiderer · 14/06/2016 10:29

I agree with Needs ^^ about Arya.

Think that Jaquen wanted to help her and knew she'd never be a No One. That's why he wasn't bothered when she was struggling and why the Waif was so antagonistic towards her. Also explains why he smiled as she left.

What annoyed me was how long the whole SL was, sweep, wash, fight, be sneered at by Waif, sweep, wash fight... Hope she doesn't now become Arya Columbus on the search for new worlds. Quite enough going on as it is.

I don't get the whole Riverrun siege thing. Why was it so important that Jaime re-take it? Thought all had quietened down after all the warring. Why didn't Jaime get sent to Dorne to avenge Marcella's death? And why hasn't anyone massacred the horrid and apparently quite weedy Freys?

NinaNeener · 14/06/2016 10:57

The Riverrun thing pissed me off. Cos they decided to make James entire motivation "doing it for Cersei". He reiterated his endless Wuv for her. Which made his reunion with Brienne a bit empty. I mean he can gaze at her retreating form all he wants but he's just told us that Cersei is his whole reason for existence so.....Hmm

In the books (& this doesn't spoil any future storylines) his motivation was showing that he wasn't just a pretty boy and could be Tywins son and kick some ass. I believe another character tells him basically that hes too soft to do the neccessary to break the siege, unlike Tyrion who hurled wildfire at Stannises ships and killed hundreds in a swift ball of flame i.e. was more Tywins son. And he gets a massive hump and goes in and threatens Edmures baby (where we came in).

Seems like that would be a much more simple and interesting motivation. It'd also have left it ambiguous how deeply he still felt for Cersei and left the Brienne thing more open.

So that annoyed me a lot. can you tell I'm a Jamie/Brienne shipper

TheNorthRemembers · 14/06/2016 11:00

Riverrun was granted to the Freys and a Lannister always pays his debts. It also secures the King's peace in the southern part of the country.

On a longer term note, this sojourn placed Jaime at the head of a large army of 8000 trained soldiers. As people keep mentioning it. Where is he heading next?

  1. North - not yet. Noone called him / sent him. No reason.
  2. Subdue ironborn in the Reach.
  3. Dorne - who cares?
  4. Kings landing - Will Cersei send the "I love you" letter and what would be his response?
  5. Home as the rightful lord of Casterly rock where Tyrion will be heading?
WeDoNotSow · 14/06/2016 11:07

Why does everyone think the blackfish should have left Riverrun to go and help Sansa in Winterfell? Confused
She's only his great niece?
she's a Stark and he's a Tully, not that much l of a family bond, I'll bet she's only ever met him a handful of times

WeDoNotSow · 14/06/2016 11:13

Forgotten all about that scruffy Tormund now, haven't ya's?
Now that the Adonis of Lannister is back on our screens.
Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/06/2016 11:26

Because the Blackfish was at the Twins at the time of the Red Wedding and only escaped because he'd gone outside for a wee just before the massacre began. He and Edmure had supported Robb Stark and after his niece and grandnephew were killed the Blackfish went back to Riverrun to try to prevent it being handed over to the Freys. Once Jaime and the Lannisters turned up, that began to seem a lot less likely to succeed, so Brienne hoped to persuade him that he and his forces could do a lot more good going north and getting vengeance for the Red Wedding against the other main perpetrators, the Boltons. OK, Ramsay wasn't at the Red Wedding, but his dad was, and Ramsay in any case has carried on the Stark-humiliation-and-torture routine started by Roose.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 14/06/2016 11:39

If Arya goes off-map, perhaps she'll find Valyria or wherever it is that dragons come from and find her own dragons. But I live in hope that she's not going to do any more pissing around, she's going to go back to Winterfell and kick some Bolton ass.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 14/06/2016 11:51

Marking my place :)

TheNorthRemembers · 14/06/2016 12:31

Will Jaime sack Kings landing to save Cersei?

The description for next says "Terms of surrender rejected and accepted.", but it might not all refer to the Bastardbowl.

sashh · 14/06/2016 12:36

Re. the face changing thing...I assumed Arya wouldn't be able to do it in Westeros as she won't have access to the faces in the House of B&W.

Not sure, Jaqan has done it in Westeros, he presumably was not carrying a face with him. Also when Arya was pulling faces off last season one was her face.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/06/2016 12:53

I wouldn't be surprised if Arya survives to the end and then goes off exploring, not unlike Frodo heading for the west at the end of LOTR.

We've already seen Valyria, haven't we? Jorah and Tyrion sailed through it on their way to Meereen. Wasn't that where Jorah got the grayscale when they were attacked and he saved Tyrion?

SolomanDaisy · 14/06/2016 13:03

I'm really really hoping that the smug looking Frey and Lannister feast is interrupted by Edmure and his army. I don't think there's much chance the Blackfish is still alive, but Edmure did show some signs of having a backbone in there somewhere.

Melisandre can't die next week unless Arya makes it to Winterfell, since they're supposed to meet again. I hope she doesn't kill Davos.

I wondered if Varys might be going to see either the Queen of Thorns (conveniently back at High Garden) or Littlefinger.

Mumanddadtoone · 14/06/2016 13:22

I didn't realise that the Emmy nominations are put forward by the shows themselves, apparently the episode they have put forward the most this season is Battle of the Bastards, this is for:-

Outstanding directing
Outstanding makeup
Outstanding picture editing
Outstanding sound mixing
Outstanding special effects
Outstanding writing

I'm expecting this episode to be brilliant, please, please, please don't kill Jon Snow (again) and also let Tormund, Davos and Wun Wun survive

ElspethFlashman · 14/06/2016 13:24

Most poignant moment for me this week was when Tyrion was talking about how he'd make wine only for his close friends......and then he realised he didn't have any close friends. Sad

Well except Varys of course.

In the books Varys goes back and does do something very dramatic but I'm hoping they change it to something else. Cos I hated it lol.

ElspethFlashman · 14/06/2016 13:26

I definitely predict Thormund and Wun Wun to both bite it. Sadly. They're fan faves and their deaths would upset people. Reason enough!
