The wheel of time is a truly epic fantasy series that I bloody loved.

NeedACleverNN · 17/06/2016 21:53

That water melon is very impressive.
Bit pink though. Needs to be sprayed a bit blue though

EverySongbirdSays · 17/06/2016 21:54

Feast For Crows is the weakest beyond a doubt.

Storm Of Swords is amazing.

EverySongbirdSays · 17/06/2016 21:59

You've spoilt yourself though RJ (returns hard stare) imagine reading Storm Of Swords, thinking Robb Stark, was the hero of the damn series and then BAM Red Wedding. I don't know if you'll get more pissed off at books or show I'm still actually quite annoyed about the general unnecessaryness of Talisa Stark AND WHAT PRECISELY WAS THE POINT OF HAVING HER INSTEAD OF JEYNE WESTERLING PREY TELL?

Felascloak · 17/06/2016 21:59

I read the first one while preggers with DS. I wanted to call him Eddard but DH said no. I would feel so cool now if I had with all these baby Aryas. Ahead of trend Grin

RJnomore1 · 17/06/2016 22:09

I usually restrict myself to book or film as I get The Rage when I do both but I want to read these. I love this thread cos dh likes the series but he glazes over when I go on about it 😕

I'll probably end up deeply unhappy with all of it but I am gripped.

WeDoNotSow · 17/06/2016 22:16

Yes I agree, he does go on a bit, doesn't he?

I don't agree with the mansplaining though, I think every character gets the excruciating detail work

WeDoNotSow · 17/06/2016 22:16

But I still luffs it

Felascloak · 17/06/2016 22:18

I just wish he had finished them already. It k8nd of feels like cheating that the tv programme is being made before the books are done. I think the actors might affect how he writes the book and change it from how it would have been if there wasno show. Not deliberately, but the actors have made the characters their own and in some case they are quite different to the book I think. Tyrion and Cersei are nothing like I imagined.

WeDoNotSow · 17/06/2016 22:19

I'm halfway through second Fraser book, so I've skipped the majority of the last page in case of, you know, spoilerzzz

WeDoNotSow · 17/06/2016 22:19

Farseer even!

Felascloak · 17/06/2016 22:20

There are no spoilers sow.

BrandNewAndImproved · 17/06/2016 22:21

I loved the wheel of time series! It did drag on a bit and the ending wasn't great. Only the main character had his ending, what happened to the dice man?

NeedACleverNN · 17/06/2016 22:21

Possibly mansplaining was the wrong word but I just didn't have the patience to hear him describe the exact colour of the tree, why trees are important when all we needed to know was that they met at the tree

CaitAgusMadra · 17/06/2016 22:25

Just came across a new (to me anyway Wink) theory about Arya and the Waif. Not sure I agree but still interesting

www.wired.com/2016/06/crazy-game-thrones-theory-ill-bet-right/

(Sorry don't know if there's a way to do 'short' links from the app)

WeDoNotSow · 17/06/2016 22:27

But the trees are magic

No, I do see your point, but I can't help but love them and skim reading certain parts is a good skill!

I do think the show has seriously suffered since it's gone off book though, the first couple of series were gripping, must see, and the last few episodes have felt like filler

NeedACleverNN · 17/06/2016 22:29

Now that's an interesting theory cait

EverySongbirdSays · 17/06/2016 22:36

You mean purple prose Need

Mansplaining is basically a man explaining something be it DIY or politics to a woman which she already knows.

The finest example being a woman who was tweeting about an article when a man tweeted and said "if you read the article you'd see" to which he response was "I wrote the article"

Aaaaaahhh the sweet relief of scratching the pedant itch

As you all were

(I'm well aware this is not an attractive quality and I deeply apologize)

Grin

Just kidding. I'm not in the right frame of mind for the right words at the moment anyway. On strong dosage of morphine so I don't mind being corrected

EverySongbirdSays · 17/06/2016 22:43

I am going for there hopefully being a bit more to Arya than meets the eye otherwise it is a bit piss poor though

OP posts:
EverySongbirdSays · 17/06/2016 22:45

Again I apologise Grin

OP posts:
RJnomore1 · 17/06/2016 22:47

That arya theory is interesting

I'm worried that ultimately we are all writing better stories than the actual story now though. I suspect some of the characters are nowhere near as interesting as we are suggesting they could be...

EverySongbirdSays · 17/06/2016 22:50

The Arya theories have DEFINITELY been better than what happened last week. I'm concerned in the same way RJ like with the Jon's snows parentage thing

OP posts:
Middleoftheroad · 17/06/2016 22:52

I started reading the GoT books this year but struggled with his style at first. I had just finished a S King book and it took a while to get used to Martin's style. But now I'm mid book two and devouring it.

Also struggle with P Gregory. Read a couple but as a PP said find them a little soap opera

Want to read all of the Dark Tower books before the screen version is out.

Felascloak · 17/06/2016 23:06

I'm reading dark tower atm. Its doing my head in, esp the jake storyline. Don't want to do spoilers, but did what happen in book 1 happen or not??!!
