Yes, I'm pretty sure in the books they don't believe in the walkers or the CoTF, they talk about them as we would talk about, I don't know, aliens in Area 51, as in 'ooh, don't go there, the aliens might get you' quite mockingly. I'm pretty sure they didn't believe Dany has real dragons either (maybe they know in the last book, I can't remember)
Even the nights watch have forgotten, Was it Jon or Sam who had it bang on, with the realms of men, and that they wouldn't build a fuck off big wall just to keep out men

TheNorthRemembers · 15/06/2016 13:05

You are right EverySongbird. This whole war of the 5 kings / queens is a sideshow and the less than 300 years of Targaryen reign a blip in the 5000-6000 years of written Westerosi history.

TheNorthRemembers · 15/06/2016 13:06

Wedonotsow bit of a mission creep there with the Wall.

QueenOfThorns · 15/06/2016 13:45

I think that Arya is going to take out someone important once she gets back home. Based on the 'Two truths, one lie' story, I'd suggest it's Walder Frey. I don't think she qualifies as a valonquar, so it won't be Cersei, and the only other person on her list is the Mountain. Although I'd like to see that, it doesn't seem likely, and I still live in hope of Cleganebowl.

(I think I may have written that word too many times - my iPad now suggests it after I've typed Cleg...!)

Anyway, Walder Frey has got to go and who better to do the deed?

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 15/06/2016 15:16

Oo, maybe she will wipe out ALL of the Freys!

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 15/06/2016 15:17

Singlehandedly! Grin

MissMoo22 · 15/06/2016 15:50

Why are people so against The High Sparrow? He's trying to get ride of Queen bitch and not allow people with money and power to set their own laws and defy the laws of the Gods they are supposed to worship. If he gets Tommen on side and gets rid of Cersie then surely that's a good thing for a while?

I don't have a good feeling about next episode and the BOTB

EverySongbirdSays · 15/06/2016 16:33

High Sparrow kind of like ISIS I guess militarised religious state run according to religious principle theocracies are never good for anyone particularly women.

Plus, Johnny no shoes is definitely up for the power, behind his humble act.

I still haven't seen it! DP is prioritising football (LTB?) so I'm getting my GOT hit by reading this thread and I have to say I'm glad the Arya storyline did not go all fight club on us - though I would have liked her jaunty sauntering around last week to have been a ruse (is there still room for this interpretation?). I am also not keen on Cleganebowl - the mountain is already dead and essentially a zombie for one thing, so I wouldn't see it as proper revenge, and I think it would be a bit simplistic.
I am absolutely terrified of the battle of the bastards - we are due some really hard hitting deaths - is Osha the worst so far this season? Hodor was bad too, but it was his seizure that was worse, and the idea that he had been condemned for so long.

EverySongbirdSays · 15/06/2016 17:04

A Rickon death would sadly be low impact now for a few reasons. There is more and more reason to assume he's burning on a cross.

Even though she's had but one scene a Lyanna Mormont death would be brutal as fuck. I don't think Brienne will go because I think they are preserving characters likely or more than likely to feature in TWOW who they don't already know to be dead (Shireen etc)

Tormund is a possibility dying to save Brienne - so is Pod. Baelish is a possibility.

Unless they have had the word from George like they did with Shireen or Hodor that X character dies at Snow Bowl.

My hope is for a Ramsey death, but things look brutal as fuck in the trailer. They need a damn miracle to win.

Also this is game of thrones, its signature is killing everyone you love and letting evil thrive.

But Joffrey went and it's Ramsey's time now. I hope his own troops turn on him and the GNC turns out to be a "thing" - hasn't seemed like it so far.

HS is a religious fanatic as far as I am seeing it. So is Mel who burned Shireen and Jaqen and just about everybody in this who's blinded by religion. Does it make their domination any worse than Cersei or Ramsay's? Someone will have to remind me if the order has actually killed anyone? Also they are like a cult, with TommEND the teen follower, brainwashed. But aside from all that HS is just so fucking smug and I'm sick of his nightie and no slippers garb which is why I also dislike him. Plus storyline has just droned on - like my post Grin.

Ok so I think there is a clip from the original S6 trailer which hasn't yet aired showing Walder raising a toast. Hopefully he's toast when Arya arrives (with a pack of wolves!)

EverySongbirdSays · 15/06/2016 17:06

Also, totally LTB Alice!!!!!!

OP posts:
SolomanDaisy · 15/06/2016 17:14

There's still that casting call for the 'fat northern Lord who makes a speech that changes minds'. It looks possible that the Manderleys might still come and change some northern minds.

Also, I have a theory on the Umbers based on GRRM being influenced by the war of the roses. At the Battle of Bosworth Field Henry Percy, duke of NorthUMBERland, the most northern noble house, turned up but his forces didn't fight. I'm hoping that's what the Umbers will do.

I think Rickon's death would only have any impact because of its effect on Jon and Sansa.

TheNorthRemembers · 15/06/2016 17:18

Middle " with TommEND the teen follower, brainwashed. But aside from all that HS is just so fucking smug and I'm sick of his nightie and no slippers garb which is why I also dislike him." Well put.
Grin

Freypie would be awesome, but as long as Arya gets vengeance I'll be happy.

This is now the winter part of the story, so I agree that the next episode is likely to be grim. Tormund, Lyanna, Rickon, Pod - you must be right. Much as I like lovely Iwan Rheon I wish Ramsay died.

Middleoftheroad · 15/06/2016 17:19

Soloman you see Umber flags fighting for team Ramsay in the trailer but maybe there's a twist
Baelish will be there right at the very end of this saga. His end game is that throne too

Middleoftheroad · 15/06/2016 17:22

Ooh TheNorth remind us about this pie that I know is in the books and also referenced in the show previously - somebody made a YT video on it but cant recall the storyline

EverySongbirdSays · 15/06/2016 17:25

Frey Pie is when some of the Freys got baked into pies by House Manderly - it's implied when davos visits them and they send him off for Rickon

OP posts:
AliceInHinterland · 15/06/2016 17:33

I'm definitely expecting some shifting allegiances at BoB. Nice analysis Soloman!
I think we could get a Stark victory paid for by a few key deaths (please not Davos - take Sansa!) but then followed by an 'oh fuck' moment like the wall collapsing. It might be too early for that though.
I feel like Littlefinger will hedge his bets - he's not played the game for this long to actually commit to a side, surely?

SootSprite · 15/06/2016 17:41

Surely they wouldn't resurrect Jon only to let Ramsey kill him? Davos and Brienne are some of my faves so Sod's law says one of them will die. Rickon is screwed, no way Ramsay lets him live.

I liked the HS until he told margaery that her feelings didn't count and she should just fuck tommen (not that he looks like he knows what to do).

Lord Percy better turn up to help Team Stark, and littlefinger too.

OlennasWimple · 15/06/2016 17:54

Little Finger is like a cockroach - he'll still be there at the end, when everything around him is in ruins...

QueenOfThorns · 15/06/2016 18:26

I agree, Littlefinger is in it for the long haul.

Now, who would I mind dying least? Hmm, Sansa, Rickon, Melisandre, Ramsay (obviously!).

TheNorthRemembers · 15/06/2016 18:26

Soloman Thank you for pointing out the Percy Umber v Duke of Northumberland connection. How could I miss that?! I love spending my birthdays at Alnwick garden.

Olenna Littlefinger will be the king of ashes as Varys (?) predicted.

Alice Thank you for being brave and writing down what I did not dare "please not Davos - take Sansa!"

TheNorthRemembers · 15/06/2016 18:28

Based on our totally representative straw poll Sansa is safe.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 15/06/2016 18:28

I like the northUMBERland theory!

AliceInHinterland · 15/06/2016 18:55

She is one of those characters where I can't work out whether the character is wooden, or the acting. I suppose early on she was courtly and prim, and now she is hardened and guarded so perhaps it's the former.
Thanks to the PP who recommended the Guardian Citadel podcast - I've listened to the first one, GOT and gender politics - heaven!
The Starks are the central characters in my eyes so I don't know how many more we can lose before we cease to care, but GRRM saying it will have a bittersweet ending worries me. I can picture one character surviving in a post apocalyptic wasteland. Or maybe two to restart the human race (Gilly and Sam?!)
