Genuine question actually. I only lasted about 15 minutes until the endless sex, ugly men and confusing "plot" got too much. This programme has been made by a French channel in English for goodness knows what kind of audience, and the BBC was dumb enough to buy it. Confused

Also loving this, and can finally tell them all apart! (Just as it's about to finish grumble grumble). Love the music too, but was a bit thrown when the song from the opening titles was used in one of the David Attenborough 'Africa' episodes. Had to look up from my sewing and make sure I'd put the right program on Grin

Henriette will definitely die next week...She must already had children (girls), they are just not part of the show. I guess they are somewhere in the countryside with the wetnurse ot governess. We have seen Loius's son for the first time in the last episode, he and his own son are not going to outlive their father and grandfather.
I think we will see the second wife of Phillipe in the series 2. Also maybe the temporary exile of Chevallier de Lorraine.

2rebecca · 05/08/2016 19:42

In the Musketeers they left out the birth of Phillipe so i don't think the BBC are that bothered about historical accuracy when it comes to French history.

TheRealKimmySchmidt63 · 05/08/2016 19:47

I love it the music the clothes the gorgeous men. And the plot is ok too

alabasterangel · 05/08/2016 21:13

Yeah but 2rebecca it's not made by the BBC, it's made by French production company, canal (who made les revenants).

2rebecca · 05/08/2016 21:39

They got the William of Orange bit wrong as well though. He didn't get engaged to Anne until years after France and England went to war against him. It seems to be giving us a vague idea of the history of the time rather than accuracy. It's the Braveheart version of the Sun King

Zhabr · 06/08/2016 08:33

I think timeframe is pretty accurate. Henriette died at 1670, William's visit to England was also in 1670. War with France 1672, marriage to Mary (not Anne) 1677. Probably it was not a proper engagement in 1670 but just an informal talk about such possibility.

I love it - so sad it's ending. It has really grown on me - the story and the acting are vastly improved over the weird first episodes with the awful plastic baby and naff sex scenes - it has settled down. The scenery and clothes and lighting are gorgeous and I love the young lively cast. Phillipe's eyes are amazing. It has been a real midweek treat among all the doom and gloom of the past few months.

Agree with others about Claudine (female docteur) and her silly moustache. Sad to see Beatrice go - will not miss the Chevalier de Rohan if he gets his comeuppance next week!

EnidButton · 07/08/2016 20:40

Just seen this on Alexander Vlahos's Twitter

@styleisleIRL Pantene is for the peasants... It's all @Bumble 💃🏻

Grin Told you there was a shampoo hierarchy.

youngestisapsycho · 10/08/2016 19:26

Argh...last one tonight!

lovelybangers · 10/08/2016 20:40

Ooh tonight?

Will watch tomorrow. DH likes it too so I'll have to wait for him

Yes, it has grown on me.

I feel the need for a trip to Paris Wine

youngestisapsycho · 10/08/2016 22:21

Well I cried! Now have to wait for series 2... Good ending though.

alabasterangel · 10/08/2016 23:10

Brilliant. So pissed off that's over! Hugely good directorship, loved the slo-mo corridor stomping with curls fanning out in the backdraft...just fabulous. Opulent, surreal, lavish. 💗

Raahh · 10/08/2016 23:58

I've just caught up with the last episode. I am bereft- no more Alex Vlahos to lust after. Grin. I don't remember him being quite so beautiful in 'the Indian Doctor ' ! Grin

Roll on series 2!

EnidButton · 11/08/2016 01:01

Nooooooooo! It can't end there! Shock

Just as we've all got into it too.

I read earlier that the first two episodes were directed by a different director which would explain why the later episodes were much better. Very glad I stuck with it. Adore Phillipe. Need to see him happy again. When's the next series?

TheHiphopopotamus · 11/08/2016 09:17

Yes, I loved that bit too. Hugely enjoyable series, looking forward to the next one. Love Phillippe, Fabien and Bontemps and my crush on George Blagden as Louis remains intact Grin

RiaOverTheRainbow · 11/08/2016 11:48

I've also loved all the synchronised hair bouncing Grin Philippe, I would love you properly [lovelorn sigh]

When Athénaïs rushed to Henriette's bedside I assumed it was for Louis's benefit, but at the end she was crying with no one watching her, so I guess she really was upset? Did I miss that they were friends?

Zhabr · 11/08/2016 12:42

Well, I hoped that Rohan will be dealt with... But no... Need to wait to the whole year. Unbearable.
I found it strange that Montcourt got so violent and that Louis forgot he has his guards just outside the door. The musketeers guards are really useless in Versailes, what a contrast to The Musketeers.

EnidButton · 11/08/2016 15:45

I wondered about the guards too. They're right there Louis! Unless they had all been dispatched to guard the palace entrances and gates. Can't recall. Too busy watching Phillipe and Chevalier doing their hair advert.

RunnyRattata · 11/08/2016 15:50

I howled my eyes out at yhat death scene. It was so moving.

RunnyRattata · 11/08/2016 15:52

I think Louis wanted to kill Montcourt himself.

EnidButton · 11/08/2016 17:55

Oh yes that makes sense.

EnidButton · 11/08/2016 17:56

And he had terrible hair. Clearly a bad 'un.

TheHiphopopotamus · 11/08/2016 20:05

And he had terrible hair. Clearly a bad 'un

You may be onto something.

Greasy, stringy hair = wrong 'un/baddy
Soft, GHD-style waves = good guy.

For the women, the more elaborate the hairstyle (i.e Beatrice's 'cones') = clearly a bitch.

Cracked it Wink

woodhill · 11/08/2016 21:13

Rohan has ok hair though.
