Genuine question actually. I only lasted about 15 minutes until the endless sex, ugly men and confusing "plot" got too much. This programme has been made by a French channel in English for goodness knows what kind of audience, and the BBC was dumb enough to buy it. Confused

He does have that other-worldly slightly tortured look about him that suits the Doctor.

alabasterangel · 02/08/2016 21:55

I think the dr who thing has been suggested if you scroll through his Twitter feed...

I've loved this series - I am a sucker for a good historical romp!

Lurleene · 02/08/2016 22:46

Ooh has it indeed? I'm not on twitter. Does he say if he's up for playing the Doctor or not?Smile

alabasterangel · 02/08/2016 22:56

It just alludes to it, someone else posted vlahos for drwho or similar. You don't have to be on Twitter to view anyone's posts - just google vlahos Twitter or g blagden Twitter and you can view?

EnidButton · 02/08/2016 23:09

Just searched google images for Alexander Vlahos as I've never seen him without the wig in anything else and he has a brilliant face. If that makes sense. I mean I don't fancy him but find him fascinating to look at. Which sounds creepy af. Hmm Hopefully you get what I mean.

Point is, he'd be an amazing Doctor, based on looks anyway.

The first suggested related search on images was 'alexander vlahos doctor who' 😯

alabasterangel · 02/08/2016 23:23

See? Grin

He got engaged at the weekend, to some gorgeous model Envy

Lurleene · 02/08/2016 23:39

How lovely, congratulations to them Grin.

Really looking forward to tomorrow night's episode. It's practically the only thing I'm enjoying on TV at the moment and it's nearly over. Sad At first I thought it was toss but the series has really grown on me as the weeks have gone on.

I went to Versailles a couple of years ago and it was breathtaking. I can't quite believe they are actually allowed to film there. The only sad thing was that we realised our tickets ( Paris Pass) didn't give us access to the gardens and we were too tight to pay the extra. I really regret that now!

EnidButton · 02/08/2016 23:43

alabaster Had a google of her too...Wow. Shock You weren't kidding.

TheHiphopopotamus · 03/08/2016 21:59

Shock Beatrice!

Does anyone know how many of the supporting characters were real people? Like Phillipe's lover, Beatrice and Fabien?

alabasterangel · 03/08/2016 22:37

There is a link up thread with a whose who guide and whether they are fictional. I'll see if I can find it again. Phillipes lover, chevalier du Lorraine was real. Beatrice & Sophie, no.

alabasterangel · 03/08/2016 22:38

Here it is: rts.org.uk/article/whos-who-versailles-guide-french-court

alabasterangel · 03/08/2016 22:43

And talk about a difference in real life....this is chevalier du Lorraine.....

Versailles - it was shit wasn't it?
TheHiphopopotamus · 03/08/2016 22:54

Ooh, likey!

Thanks for the link angel, I'll have a read of that now I've grasped who the characters are just as the series comes to a close

EnidButton · 03/08/2016 23:21

That was a brilliant episode! It final seems to have hit its stride and it's finishing next week.

That ending made me feel queasy with all the spinning.

Phillipe was even better this week. That sigh of relief and little hitch of his britches. Grin And now it's been pointed out all I can see is the actor as the Doctor. He really would be perfect.

EnidButton · 03/08/2016 23:21

Finally

youngestisapsycho · 03/08/2016 23:37

Can't wait for next week.... Then will be so sad it's ended!
Alexander Vlahos did tweet the below:

Thank you for your lovely messages... #Versailles Episode 9, eh? That cliffhanger... 😳 Ps. Next week will break your hearts 💔

Verso · 04/08/2016 09:26

What has happened to me?!!

First episode: thought (though beautiful to look at) - dreadful dialogue and unconvincing/limp/fey acting.

Now?

Aargh - desperate for each new episode and totally obsessed with George Blagden Blush. Have you SEEN the man in real life?! OMG!

I luffs him [swoon].

My poor husband. What will he do when the series finishes next week and I become a consumptive wreck in my maudlin despair?

I LOVE VERSAILLES AND CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT SERIES! Grin

(that is all)

spookyelectric · 04/08/2016 09:37

may be spoiler if not seen episode 9

I agree - I love it - it has really hit its stride. Even my DP likes it now and he hates costume dramas. Poor Beatrice - gone the way of Anne Boleyn. How fabulous did Louis and Phillipe look at the masked ball taking off their masks over Phillipe's wife. So gald that series2 is in the bag!

youngestisapsycho · 04/08/2016 10:02

But what is going to break our hearts ??

TheHiphopopotamus · 04/08/2016 10:04

Just musing, but I wonder why it's been stuck midweek on BBC2. Surely a costume drama like this would have done better on Sunday evening? Is it because of all the shagging, I wonder Confused

TheHiphopopotamus · 04/08/2016 10:06

But what is going to break our hearts

Does his wife die?

alabasterangel · 04/08/2016 22:59

It's based (80%) on historical fact so I won't say anything but you wouldn't have to research far to find out when these key characters lived and died, so if you wanted to you could research or quash that theory very easily.

not a spoiler as such but about to refer to real life facts so don't read if you don't want to know

Although they have manipulated real life history to make a good story to a degree, I doubt they'd change it so much as to disregard someone's death. Henriette died very young, but when she did die she'd had children with Phillipe and at this stage I can't see that she has? There was always talk of her being very close to Louis but no doubting that Phillipe fathered her 3 children, two of which survived into adulthood. She hasn't yet had children in this series? So either they're blurring that fact, or she isn't going to die just yet?

BeJayKayven · 04/08/2016 23:09

Just on to agree - it is a brilliant escape from reality, so gorgeous, love the beauty, the characters and the music...
