Shaggydog Sad

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/05/2016 11:05

So we've still got Ghost, Summer and Nymeria, haven't we? I am still loving Arya's story and longing for her to get back to Westeros and reunite with Nymeria and her giant pack of wolves. I hope they wade in at a crucial moment in a final battle.

WeDoNotSow · 09/05/2016 11:05

I liked Jon's 'my watch is ended'.
Walks the fuck off.

emilybohemia · 09/05/2016 11:13

who's to say it is Shaggydog's head? Maybe it's the head of an unusually large wolf?

I'm glad Jon's watch has ended.

Wondering what else Ned lied about.

NeedACleverNN · 09/05/2016 11:31

Just marking my space here for later Grin

CashedTheChequeHasBeen · 09/05/2016 11:57

I enjoyed that more. The flashback sword fight was great. I'm glad Jon ended his watch, bring it on. I just pray nothing happens to Rickon BlushShock

gingercat12 · 09/05/2016 12:52

I am in denial, so let us hope the Umbers are secretly plotting to overthrow the Boltons somehow similarly to the Manderlys in the books. [hides head in the sand singing loudly lalala].
I was also thinking of the set photos from the summer. It must have been Osha then on the cross. She betrayed Ramsay personally, so she is a goner.
Again I am just grateful that Rickon is not at the Umbers in the books. Surely cannibal unicorns will not give him up to Ramsay. Possibly not even to Davos.

gingercat12 · 09/05/2016 12:56

emily I never thought Ned was great at lying. He never said or disputed anything and let rumours circulate. Just think about his conversation with Robert about Lyanna. Ned let Robert speculate and fill the gaps in his knowledge about Lyanna's final months with his own prejudices.

gingercat12 · 09/05/2016 13:17

Who is Littlefinger talking to in the trailer? Someone in the Vale and Sweetrobin? Sorry I did not see all the episodes.

emilybohemia · 09/05/2016 13:22

True, ginger. He dealt with it by letting people draw tgeir own conclusions and not coming up with a proper cover story it seems.

I still wonder about Ashara Dayne who Ned was rumoured to be in love with. She had a child too I think. Surely there could be a story here too? awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Ashara_Dayne

I am sort of hoping for some sort of twist re Jon's parentage. It seems to anticlimactic for it to be exactly what we are all expecting now.

emilybohemia · 09/05/2016 13:33

I think that Ned's lying about the nature of Ser Arthur Dayne's death pointed to him being not merely a liar, but dishonourable. Although the 'lie' doesn't appear so much in the book I think. In the book he acknowledges to Bran I think that Arthur Dayne would have killed him were it not for Howland Reed whilst in the show it seemed like he had misled Bran that he had killed him. The stabbing in the back seems to indicate dishonourable behaviour. Previously, Barristan Selmy states that Ashara Dayne was 'dishonoured.' This seems to suggest force. George likes to blur the lines between good and bad. Perhaps Ned raped Ashara and is really a villain, notthe wholly good man he seemed and perhaps Meera is his daughter, the result of him raping Ashara and given to his friend Howland Reed to care for?

emilybohemia · 09/05/2016 13:38

Slightly pissed off young Ned appears to have a Manc accent rather than old Ned's Yorkshire.

I'll shut up now.

emily We do not really know anything about young Ned other than being fostered together with Robert by Jon Arryn. Brandon certainly was a player.

CashedTheChequeHasBeen · 09/05/2016 13:57

I'm just waiting for Drogon to arrive, destroy the Khalasar, take Dany to Tyrion and then the fly off together with whoever the other rider is going to be (I'm hoping T will be), and take over the throne. King Jon would be a great ending if a little obvious.

But as a PP said, the show seems more obvious than the book

emilybohemia · 09/05/2016 14:00

I agree, ginger. The 'dishonouring' could be Barristan just referring to sex without marriage etc.

Interestingly, Ashara Dayne had violet eyes like Danerys.

'Even after all these years, Ser Barristan could still recall Ashara’s smile, the sound of her laughter. He had only to close his eyes to see her, with her long dark hair tumbling about her shoulders and those haunting purple eyes. Daenerys has the same eyes. Sometimes when the queen looked at him, he felt as if he were looking at Ashara’s daughter …'

Maybe Brandon did the dishonouring.

PreviouslyMal · 09/05/2016 14:02

OSHA betrayed Ramsay ? Confused. I don't remember them ever meeting ?

I remember her sleeping with Theon after he took Winterfell so she could escape with Bran etc.

PreviouslyMal · 09/05/2016 14:07

I had hoped that Ramsay's gift would be Stannis, but after hearing Ramsay mention the Umbers last week, it was a massive hint to it being Rickon. - why would they have kept Osha alive though?

CaitAgusMadra · 09/05/2016 14:19

There had to be something in the way Lord Umber wouldn't kneel for Ramsay, right?!! So hoping this doesn't spell the end for little Rickon. Although the wolfs head is definitely a worry....

CaptainWarbeck · 09/05/2016 14:35

Surely the fact that it was mentioned that Howland Reed is Meera's father is a massive clue to R+L=J+M? Otherwise why bother to have that in the script/story?

Liked Jon's flounce away from the Wall, although the whole rising from the dead felt a bit anticlimactic after so much anticipation.

PreviouslyMal · 09/05/2016 14:51

Also the fact that Ned and Howland Reed never saw each other again after the TOJ ? I would've thought Meera would be the warg/ have the sight if that were the case though, not Jojen.

Old Lord Umber wouldn't kneel for Robb either Wink that's why Grey wind bit off his fingers, I think the Umbers are just Stubborn.

CaitAgusMadra · 09/05/2016 15:14

Oh I'd forgotten that about old Lord umber...hope slips away...

I would guess the mentioning of Howland Reed being Meera's father was just a clarification for non-book readers, not sure there is any other significance

emilybohemia · 09/05/2016 15:46

Captain, I suppose I'm just hoping for a bit more a twist and wonder if the stabbing in the back and lie about killing Arthur Dayne is foreshadowing some other dishonourable behaviour on Ned's part. In some ways I would prefer it if he is Jon's father after all and Ashara the mother. That would then leave space for the child in the Tower of Joy to be someone else with an interesting twist.

JonSnowsBeardClippings · 09/05/2016 15:50

So next week - theon is at pyke. Danaerys is facing rebellion in mereen. Little finger is in the eyrie.

gingercat12 · 09/05/2016 16:27

PreviouslyMal Did Ramsay not hide as Reek in Winterfell in the show? He must have been plotting his revenge by then and ruling the North would have been easier if they had really managed to kill the Stark heirs. Osha helped to spirit them away, and I think in Ray's mind that qualifies as a connection and a reason for gruesome death.
