Oh god rickon! I'd forgotten

ClashCityRocker · 15/05/2016 21:18

Not sure re The Prince That Was Promised.

JS makes the most sense on paper, which is why I'm not sure it will be him.

Maybe Bran, with his dreams of knighthood lost will turn into the saviour of westeros and ride one of the dragons - being able to 'fly'. There certainly seems to be something in the pipeline for him rather than just turning into a tree.

Not fussed about Rickon, he's barely a character and I would imagine quite easily dispensed with, although who knows? He might have a major part to play yet other than being used as bait.

EverySongbirdSays · 15/05/2016 21:42

Even if you don't care for Rickon...yet, you care about those characters that care about him. Sansa is a bit of a twat in the early books but she's been through enough man and Jon would probably cry. They both think he's dead, now they know he isn't, yay, only for him to get hurt or brainwashed by bloody Ramsey.

Yeah, and he's only a kid Sad

(Not overinvested at all, me! )

QueenOfThorns · 15/05/2016 21:48

I don't know whether Jon and Dany is the endgame, but I'm not sure I can think of a viable alternative. I know that the ending has been described as 'bittersweet', which suggests to me that someone important will sacrifice themselves to bring about the end of the white walkers. I don't know who - Bran maybe?

EverySongbirdSays · 15/05/2016 22:05

I thought the "bittersweet ending" comment referred to the end of Arya's story, not the story as a whole.

Someone said (I can't remember who) that GRRM was a big fan of The Wire. Together with the bittersweet ending I always thought there would be a big blow-up, everyone shaken up, but once the new Last Hero saved the world we will face the same enmities and problems. There will be a truce, yes, but just like 16 years ago when Robert's Rebellion ended, the seeds of the new rebellion and unrest will have have been sown.
And similarly to The Wire some men (women, children) you just can't save. (copyright by Guns'n'Roses)

Certainly Arya's endgame is expected to be bittersweet and signal spring, I totally agree EverySongbird.

I'd love it if they took the long view as ClashCityRocker suggested.

In the books Jon is certainly the true hero, but he mey not be the Last Hero, or the Prince that was Promised or Azor Ahai. Just thinking about them made my head spin.

Enjoy the next episode!!! I shall try to watch it tomorrow evening.

Did Dany's baby definitely die? I can't remember clearly what happened there.

EverySongbirdSays · 16/05/2016 00:50

I can't personally remember but one of the sites says he was called Rhaego and was stillborn I think she sees him in that weird hallucination she goes through in was it Qarth?

She was told her baby died, but didn't see his body.

iisme · 16/05/2016 03:45

I think the major barrier to Jon & Dani getting together is the ickiness to the readers (viewers). It's established in the books that incest is normal to some characters (mostly mad, distant or morally questionable) - though not to most characters - but expecting the readers to get on board with the happy ending of someone marrying their aunt is totally different!

WeDoNotSow · 16/05/2016 07:06

The original endgame was for Jon to get with Arya. Going by GRRms letters.
It was supposed to be a trilogy too Grin

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 16/05/2016 10:26

She does see his body in the book and he's deformed and has claws and scales, I think.

wickedlazy · 16/05/2016 10:35

She doesn't see his body in the book. It is described to her as having looked like that.

wickedlazy · 16/05/2016 10:37

Would Jon have to marry Dany to be a dragon rider? Surely being her nephew if he is, there could still be a different twist but not likely enough?

weirdsister · 16/05/2016 12:33

Could Dany's baby possibly have survived or was he too little?

weirdsister · 16/05/2016 12:36

I don't think dany will get with Jon. She's already married outside the bloodline and was happy. She'll marry for love I think.

Jon with Arya or Sansa would be better. But I want Arya to end up with gendry!

Alisvolatpropiis · 16/05/2016 12:38

I think it was implied in the book the baby was deformed?

Alisvolatpropiis · 16/05/2016 12:38

Oh never mind, I see that's been mentioned already

TheNorthRemembers · 16/05/2016 13:07

It is implied in the book that when the ruler married for love, it always brought death and destruction for Westeros. Mind you it seems to be the case even when they do not marry for love.

TheNorthRemembers · 16/05/2016 13:08

Where is Gendry?

BuunyChops · 16/05/2016 14:22

Gentry is still rowing 'round the world twice at this rate.

I'm in a quandary here.

I'm WFH and it's there!

The next episode

Just there on the Sky box; and I haven't had lunch yet

But I've promised DP I'll wait till he gets home; we'll sort dinner and then then watch it together.

But but I've read the books (and I bloody pay attention) so I have to keep pausing it for DP to explain whats happening. I'd really like to watch one episode with no pauses

I'm a crap actress; if I watch he'll know.............

But I want to; so much

TheNorthRemembers · 16/05/2016 18:15

Did you watch it? We won't tell. [giggles]
