I've just seen the new .

Hang on to your hats for a another round of pregnancy/childbirth bingo and the continuing adventures of the most drama-filled antenatal group and understaffed maternity unit in the country!

Previous thread here to remind yourselves of last series/loose ends and see if any of Bertie's predictions come true!

I like Dexter the serial killer, doesn't mean I condone murdering.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/05/2016 16:56

Rosie's character is by far the worst.

I think Jasmine is supposed to be endearingly feisty but comes across like a brat most of the time.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/05/2016 17:35

I would say the same if Rowana was male. Relationships are complicated but extremely black and white in RelationshipsWink

CremeEggThief · 18/05/2016 18:41

I do think one thing the show has got right is that life isn't exactly a bed of roses since Roanna left her husband and there are consequences to her actions. I think that's portrayed well.

notamummy10 · 18/05/2016 18:52

I do think Roanna will get back with Ray, well I'm hoping they will. I'm assuming that's why he wanted her to go to Manchester with him. I'm guessing Simon was a result of a midlife crisis..

I do agree that the storylines are a bit predictable though, like Shelly will keep her baby for herself rather than give him away to the surrogate couple and it'll come out that her mum is indeed Louie's mum. (Interesting fact: the actress who plays Shelly has the same surname as me). And that with Rick in charge, something bad was going to happen!

I do like Jasmine's fiery attitude though, I suppose with Dev's more laid back personality they'd need a partner who was the opposite.

I do think it was irresponsible for a show that has the theme of pregnancy, promoted the myth that is 'reduced movements later in pregnancy'

Dreadful writing by Gaynor mellor.

Total caricatures, especially the gay men last night. Quite offensive to people using surrogacy.

No childminder would just leave mindees with their ex-con DP to attend a hospital appointment, and then be surprised when the council took action. And then after a mindee had been injured say "ooh the main thing is that my baby's appointment went well".

The medical stuff is bad too. Unprofessional midwives etc. A doctor couldn't give a toddler that age the "all clear" for developmental issues like that.

Rowena's relationship with the younger bloke was always doomed (he behaved like a tosser last week, not that that excuses her snogging her ex) - she once got off with his dad, who's nasty, and her DP doesn't know!

southeastdweller · 18/05/2016 19:05

Gaynor Mellor didn't write last night's episode. Her mum did, with Nick Hopkins.

SheHasAWildHeart · 18/05/2016 19:15

Amazing how Diane could cope with kids and appointments and everything else when her husband wasn't around.

BertieBotts · 18/05/2016 19:24

I don't really understand that either. I can see Rick might have been clueless about needing to be checked but I don't see why she didn't say to him no you can't look after them. And text him a list of questions. Or got her mum to come over? That would have caused drama alone because he could have got all offended and assumed that she didn't think him competent because she hadn't time to explain.

I don't know why I'm still watching, it's like a car crash.

TrixieBernadette · 18/05/2016 20:29

I couldn't understand why Diane didn't take her two mindees with her? The appointment must have been booked way before Rick was released with the NHS, and even if he had the others, why not take hope and the two mindees to the appointment?

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/05/2016 21:16

Like Bertie said - surely anyone with a functioning brain would have just texted Rick the questions she wanted asked.

Blondie is going to descend in to alcoholism by the looks of next weeks episode. I'm sure the social worker waiting for her to collect her son fron Diane and Rick's is going to have something to say about her no show in the next episode. I reckon in that clip where she's swigging vodka from the bottle, she's gone straight home and forgotten about him.

Woodhill · 18/05/2016 21:35

Who lets their dc bounce on the beds to that extent anyway, just knew that the little girl would get injured

SheHasAWildHeart · 18/05/2016 21:53

I had to forward the bed jumping coz I knew she'd hurt herself n it'd be sad :/

scarlets · 18/05/2016 22:16

Hermione Norris stole the show again. She has half-decent material to work with though, unlike some of the others.

The young woman giving birth was brilliant.

It's really predictable and a bit tedious, otherwise. The writers seem to be devoid of fresh ideas - camp surrogate dads, how lazy. Some sloppy writing and medical inaccuracies. I think I'm pretty much done with it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/05/2016 22:24

I disliked how the dads were portrayed too. I've known gay men who were camp. But the whole set up stunk of lazy stereotypes

Lilaclily · 18/05/2016 22:26

Young girl is getting pnd so that might be vaguely OK to watch

katienana · 18/05/2016 23:27

The surrogate mum was using gas and air wrong! You're supposed to breathe it in and breathe out with it still in your gob. She was sucking it and then taking it out to breathe out.

kinkytoes · 18/05/2016 23:47

That's how I started to use the gas and air, till the midwife corrected me Grin

On a more serious note, I wonder if Kicks Count will be contacting the BBC about those comments re baby movements.

YoureSoSlyButSoAmI · 19/05/2016 00:25

Ooh the actor who plays Ray is Ramona Marquez's (Karen in Outnumbered) uncle!

Dozer · 19/05/2016 06:58

Oops, well bad writing by Kay mellor and Nick hopkins then! A shame because the premise is good.

BertieBotts · 19/05/2016 09:08

YY but you can't deliver your lines with it in your mouth Grin They always do that on TV.

Drinksforeveryone · 19/05/2016 10:03

Oh I am pleased I set a series link for the first season as I hadn't realised this one had started

Love it.

Yes there are lots of unbelievable actions and lines but it's still entertaining.

Paul Nichols! I thought it was him. He looks so old. :(

I bet leopard coat lady nabs her baby. She was amazingly quick at popping him out in the loo!

Feel sorry for Rosie. Despite her boyfriend having parents -with money- no one seems to want to help them. They are 16? Sad.

MargotLovedTom · 19/05/2016 11:15

That's what I thought re Rosie. There's Kim lying around winsomely in her kimono, farting about with her blog and flashcards and moaning about everyone being busy, and her almost step-son's teenage partner is slowly sinking in a shitty flat with two tiny kids (one of whom is her goddaughter!). Why the hell isn't Kim (and the dad - Neil?) helping her out?!

MargotLovedTom · 19/05/2016 11:20

I didn't realise Paul Nicholls has had so many 'troubles' (being tactful!). No wonder he's not looking his best.

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/05/2016 11:23

I was pretty young when Paul Nicholls was on Eastenders so maybe I'm misremembering, but I don't think he looks that bad? Confused

It's leopard coat lady I'm shocked by, she looks so completely different to when she was in Casualty
