(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

I've been a fan since William Hartnell days - not quite as long as DH who was in from the beginning - I came in about the time of the Dalek invasion.
We have lots of videos & DD became a fan long before the new series, though she loves that too, and Torchwood even more - (she is 16 btw)

3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 11:48

Yay I'm not the only one!

Wish they'd bring out more of the early Doctor Who on DVD. Whenever they show it on UK Gold they always miss the first two Doctors.

Having said that didn't the BBC delete loads of them?

I came in at Colin Baker, so would have been about nine or ten!

Dh doesn't mind it but he's not a mad fan like me. Doesn't help that I fancy the pants off DT as well.

I thought i was the only one....seeing as my who anorak quiz got blanked t'other week lol....been a fan since pertwee (started young), own a signed cyberglove and had a unit soldier named after me in dwm!...i'll repost the quiz if anyone likes!!!

JackieNo · 09/01/2007 11:51

I'm not sure I'm knowledgeable enough to count myself as a geek, but I do enjoy the old ones, as well as the new ones (and Torchwood, and the Sarah Jane Adventures). I first saw it when John Pertwee was the doctor, but most of my memories are from when it was Tom Baker - he's still the quintessential Doctor for me.

3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 11:56

Ash what quiz I didn't see it??? Yes re-post it!!!

JackieNo I saw the Sarah Jane Adventures, really liked it, can't believe she is 58 though !!

Is it my imagination, or was the name of the street Bannerman close? I think it was, and I wondered if this was a reference to Delta and the Bannermen.

You can see why I started this thread now. Maybe I need help

Bleedin' eck!

I'll have a go on my dinner hour at one! Am very impressed from an initial look though!!

OP posts:
AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 09/01/2007 12:12

ooooh....there's a prize for the most correct too (nothing too fancy so it can be emailed!) and if you're very lucky i'll post a pic of me in my mccoy outfit! lol

3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 12:46

Right I printed it off and I'm afraid I've not done very well

  1. I don't know, it's a Hartnell one isn't it?
  1. Professor Marius
  1. I don't know again. Can I have half a point for knowing that Mission to the Unknown was - I think - a one off episode that didn't feature the Doctor at all?
  1. Susan Jameson
  1. Fondant surprise of course!!
  1. The way to the zoo
  1. Oh I love Alexi Sayle. But I'm not entirely sure of the answer. Iirc, he made a sound weapon with his DJing equipment?
  1. The eyes of the dragon.
  1. Oh I haven't a clue! Love the bicycle reflectors though!
OP posts:
JackieNo · 09/01/2007 13:31

I'm afraid I can't do any of these. Like I said, not enough knowledge of all the facts. It all gets mixed up with the Blake's 7 too.

3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 13:36

Oooh now Blakes 7, I'm afraid I'm too young to remember it first time round but a mate of dh's has the first two series on DVD and they are ace!

OP posts:
3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 14:24

Well, AshNotTheHousewaresOne, how did I do, and what are the answers?????

OP posts:
JackieNo · 09/01/2007 14:28

DH actually wanted to call DD Jenna, but we wimped out. Kind of wish we had...

3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 14:39

Jenna is a great name if you're a Blakes 7 fan but isn't it also the name of a famous porn star?

What did you call her in the end though, Servalan?

Also am I alone in finding Paul Darrow (in the DVDs that is, he must be getting on now) strangely attractive?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 09/01/2007 14:41

No, not Servalan. And no, you're not alone - Avon was pretty fanciable. They had some Blake's 7 retrospectives on not so long ago, and his voice is still great, but he's a bit jowly now.

3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 14:54

Stephen Greif (the original Travis, for the first series) wasn't bad either, in a sort of evil way...

OP posts:
JackieNo · 09/01/2007 15:34

Mmm - and all that leather...

3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 16:00

JackieNo, how right you are. Mmm...

You know, it is starting to look like we are the only Doctor Who / Blakes 7 fans on the whole of MN atm.

Have to say, I know it's a bit geeky but I thought there might be a few more........

OP posts:
AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 09/01/2007 16:27

3rdTriMossTer · 09/01/2007 16:38

Oh I was quite close then with number eight!

I'm afraid that Doctor Who is probably the only TV show that I'm quite geeky enough about to get that score!

Can't wait until my lo is born I am going to indoctrinate him lol!

OP posts:
foxabout2pop · 10/01/2007 10:18

Mossy - well done starting this thread!!!

I started watching during Pertwee I think. Was it Patrick Troughton after that?

Patrick Troughton used to live near us and always talk to my brother who has Downs and was obsessed with Dr Who. He still is actually and now my DS and my nephew are also obsessed, so they chat to my Bro for ages about it, which is lovely.

Anyone else collect the Trading cards?

DS has hundreds of doubles and we'd like to do postal swaps??? Anyone interested?

Have already done some with a wee lad in Sri Lanka!

When DS (aged 6) logs on, his background picture on the PC is "Super Rose", the ultra rare card LOL!!! (Which we don't have BTW)

3rdTriMossTer · 10/01/2007 10:43

Foxy, Pertwee came after Troughton.

Am so of you having met him. And he sounds like such a lovely chappie too!

His grandson is in the new Robin Hood!!

How stupid of the BBC to have deleted nearly all the Troughton stories from their archives, they could have made a mint selling them on DVD!

The nearest I ever got to a RL DW actor (apart from DT's autograph and a letter, as detailed earlier, in his pre-DW days) was when I lived in London for a bit, I was walking down the Charing Cross Road early in the morning and in the distance I saw none other than Tom Baker. He walked right past me and I wanted to say something but I couldn't think of anything in the least bit amusing so I didn't.

Afterwards it occured that I ought to have asked him for a jelly baby. But then I thought I bet everyone does that.

Hope you find lots of willing card traders!

When Bertie is born I am going to indoctrinate him early and bf him whilst watching endless DW DVDs.

OP posts:
foxabout2pop · 10/01/2007 11:06

LOL at the jelly babies!!!

My Mum used to really fancy Patrick T so used to make a beeline for him, using my brother as an excellent excuse!!

One of the current writers (who wrote the Marian Antionette one?) has kids a a school near me, so we went to their summer fair - as the notice promised a real live Dalek. We met him and DS was completely star struck and couldn't speak. I have photos of DS and DD with the Dalek and with K9, looking terrified

Think his name is Steve Morris or something (the writer that is).

That was my fave one - the one with Sophia Miles in. Lucky cow is dating our David Tennat

UnquietDad · 10/01/2007 11:15

Yes, only 6 PT stories exist whole. It's shameful! There are a couple almost complete, including this one which has been released with animation plugging the two missing episodes. It's pretty good.

Some odd episodes too, gathered here

UnquietDad · 10/01/2007 11:17

fox - Steve Moffat is his name. he also wrote Press gang, Coupling and Joking Apart.
