(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

We have those

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 14:27

UQD / Nikki I have yet to go through the cards and see who gets the best average score...

Dh actually won the game last night. I was gutted but it just made me more determined to win next time!

Can my fellow Whovians help me/
Am I going completely barmy - or did you used to be able to kill/disable a Cyberman using gold?
Something in the back of my mind is telling me this but I may have totally made it up!

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 15:13

Iklboo you are absolutely right don't worry, you're not going mad! Wasn't mentioned as such in the new series though but on one of the web sites they set up to tie in with the series, the one for cybus industries , they wrote this:

Of course there were always going to be teething troubles. Some of the early designs appeared to be allergic to gold, but we were able to eradicate that in the later stages of development.

Thank you! Cos I thought, being in Wales with those lovely gold mines...it'd be easy to despatch the cybermen - or they could just chuck a chav at 'em

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 15:32

Well... in the old series you'd think Wales'd be all right; it was usually London everyone wanted to invade.

But nowadays, with the rift in Cardiff and everything... you're certainly not safe!

Still, I wonder if they'll make it up here to Merseyside?

It was a very poor joke... trumps? Slitheen? Gas exchange? Never mind....

Iklboo - yes, that's correct. It clogs their chest units. First turned up in Tom Baker story where they encountered Voga the Planet of Gold , then again a couple of times. The Cyberleader was killed with Adric's gold badge just before Adric himself died.

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 16:19

Sorry I didn't get it. I do now though. Very funny

Aw poor Adric. No one else likes him but ah bless him I thought he was quite sweet.

UnquietDad · 16/01/2007 16:42

If you want to see a different take on Adric's death scene... lookee here

'[Director] Peter Grimwade's original 71 edit of the end of episode four. It was judged by [producer] John Nathan Turner to be "not the kind of strong emotion I was looking for" and Grimwade was ordered to change it.'

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 16:57

Ah I'll have to watch it back at home I'm not allowed the sound on in work!

kittypants · 16/01/2007 17:06

UnquietDad · 16/01/2007 17:33

New series will probably start around March/April for 13 weeks.

3rdTriMossTer · 16/01/2007 18:02

Yes, it's starting around when I'm due do you think the hosi will give me any of those drugs which slow labour just in case it looks like I'm going to miss the first episode?

nikkie · 16/01/2007 20:32

You'll be timing naps by Dr Who being on!

UnquietDad · 16/01/2007 21:28

Start 'em young.

DD watched "Ark In Space" when she was a few months old. She watched it again when she was 2, and did such a good commentary that I should have recorded it and offered it to the BBC as a DVD commentary track:

"Where Sarah? Sarah gone! Scary man! Got green hand!" etc.

She watched it again last month on BBC4. This means she has notched up as many viewings of "Ark In Space" in 7 years as I managed in 30...

nikkie · 16/01/2007 21:48

My dds first experience of Dr Who was the new series and me telling them they weren't allowed to speak for 45 mins so I could watch they loved it straight away , dd1 quotes it, dd2 acts it and they both read the comic!

Did you get the Cds with the Radio Times? We are saving them for longer journeys in the car !

UnquietDad · 16/01/2007 22:29

Yes, got those. I see they're abridged, but perhaps that is a good thing!

nikkie · 16/01/2007 22:35

well they only cost 98p each really so abridged isn't so bad !

foxabout2pop · 17/01/2007 08:45

I just can't believe how popular Dr Who has become (quite rightly so of course) - DS is 6 and his class at school are divided into those who collect Dr Who card and those who don't. Its got to the point where he only wants to socialise with those who collect and he even deigns to talk to girls as long as they collect!!

I'm very proud to say it was DS who was partly responsible for starting this trend (influenced by his mother of course)

Am very impressed by the knowledge of some of you on here - respect - some of this stuff is going over my head TBH!

southeastastra · 17/01/2007 09:10

my ds(5) is obsessed with the k9 game too on the bbc site and a game called destiny of the doctors.

foxabout2pop · 17/01/2007 11:01

Must put my DS onto those games too then!!!

kittypants · 17/01/2007 11:03

thankyou.my lo's will have to keep being bribed till its on again then!

3rdTriMossTer · 18/01/2007 06:39

UQD just managed to grab a mo to watch your "alternative" take on Adric's death now what is that the theme tune from, was it Terry & June or something like that?

I used to read those Terrance Dicks paperbacks when I was a kid, didn't know they were still around! Our local library had loads of 'em, I used to lose whole days in there!

Foxy good on ya for drumming it into your ds to indoctrinate all his classmates!!! And talking to girls, eh? You wanna watch that!!
