(After our antenatal thread became somewhat hijacked with talk of Doctor Who)

Hello,

My name's (usually) MsMoss and I've been a Doctor Who Geek for over twenty years now. I grew up with McCoy, stood by it through its years in the wilderness and now watch, proud but slightly bemused, as it is no longer shameful to admit you're a fan.

Anyone else with me? You love the new series but don't want the old to be forgotten?

Join me, stand up and be counted!

Foxy I really loved that one too. Even dh liked it, and he normally sits there taking the p*ss out of DT. God yeah Sophia Myles she is lucky.

Not only that but she got to get it on with the strangely attractive Marc Warren in the Dracula that was on recently. Didn't think the prog was all that, but he was really fit in it.

I sometimes wonder if I should admit to myself that the only reason I'm having a dc is so I can take them to things like your summer fair and do DW related stuff.

It sounds great actually!

Dh's friend's dd (age 7) loves DW and especially adores Billie Piper as Rose. He took her to see her in Waterstones in Manchester when she was doing a book signing there and I have a piccy of them all, apparently Billie was really nice and let his dd sit on her knee and everything, bless!!!

UQD I asked for that one for Xmas but dh got confused. Not complaining though as he got me two (different) DW DVDs and a book, instead.

UnquietDad · 10/01/2007 11:27

which ones did you get, 3rd?

And I'm jealous of DT from this side of the fence! Sophia is one loverly lady.

3rdTriMossTer · 10/01/2007 11:32

The Horror of Fang Rock
The Green Death

And the book I got was The Inside Story, all about the new series. He wanted to get me something more all encompassing bless him but couldn't find anything.

He indulges my addiction but in a slightly disapproving way!!!!

I know (although not well) Gary Russell who wrote that book. He knows his stuff. Has written some of the novels too. Good choices of DVD!

3rdTriMossTer · 10/01/2007 11:47

How do you know him?

OP posts:
UnquietDad · 10/01/2007 12:15

Just through friend-of-friend, writing contacts.

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 10/01/2007 12:17

been transfering all my old 'Who' vhs's to shiny dvd.....takes up less space too!....Gazza Russell's got a junior script editing position on series 3 btw, hence he's left 'big finish' now (makers of the Who audios).....nice to find some fellow 'enthusiasts' on here!

3rdTriMossTer · 10/01/2007 12:44

Ash who got the best score on your quiz then, you said you'd posted it before?

UQD get you with your contacts!!

OP posts:
AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 10/01/2007 13:16

you were the only person to attempt it so yoo won 3rdTriMossTer !!!!

foxabout2pop · 10/01/2007 13:17

Moss - I didn't even attempt the quiz!!

Unquietdad - thanks for those links. I bought DS a couple of the old ones in WH Smiths and he found them boring as they were in B&W and a bit more low key than the recent series's.

I also think Sophia Miles is beautiful actually, she has such a lovely face and Sarah Jane Smith is gorgeous too. Even when I was 18 I never looked as good as either of those women . Billie is nice in a girl-next-door kind of way - DD 3 idolises her.

Moss - Hmm Dr Who and Dracula - if I was an actress, they would be the programmes I'd like to do too.

Have always had fantasies about vampires, dating back to Christopher Lee

foxabout2pop · 10/01/2007 13:18

Sorry, am I lowering the tone here?

UnquietDad · 10/01/2007 13:27

It's funny, you do worry that they are not going to respond well to the old ones and yet my DD loves them, especially Peter Davison. We haven't tried a full B&W yet, but she watched one of the odd episodes with me, a dalek one (it's on that compilation linked to below) and enjoyed it.

It's incredible to think that they were chucking old film cans out until as recently as the mid-70s. Just a few years later the home video market was there and it gradually began to dwan on the BBC what a short-sighted decison this had been. Not just Who, either - lots of old programmes suffered like Steptoe, dad's Army etc.

3rdTriMossTer · 10/01/2007 13:34

Foxy you're not lowering the tone! After all we are both heavily pg and can't be blamed for our horny hormones flying everywhere!!!!

There is something about vampires, but I'll be honest I don't get the Christopher Lee thing, but I think of him as Saruman rather than Dracula! I'm thinking more of Spike (James Marsters) in Buffy the Vampire Slayer... and of course as I said, Marc Warren.

Dh thought Sophia was quite fit too, especially in that dress which pushed her boobs right up! (Maybe that's why he didn't kick up too much of a fuss about watching it that week??)

Actually maybe we are lowering the tone. I'll stop now!

UQD, I hope my lo likes Doctor Who as much as I do when he's born. I grew up with McCoy, but my Dad was well into Doctor Who and introduced me to some of the older ones. In fact my Grandad was a fan, probably through watching it with my Dad when he was a kid, so there's a long line of Moss fans going back through time!

Only difference is, it certainly wasn't cool in "my day"!

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 10/01/2007 13:34

did you know thats where the 'torchwood' anagram originally comes from?....it was used by bbc staff to identify old who episodes being junked so they could nick ones theyd worked on before they were destroyed....strange, but true!

foxabout2pop · 10/01/2007 13:36

Wow, how did you discover that Ash?

3rdTriMossTer · 10/01/2007 13:36

Ash I did know that, showing my geekiness now aren't I?

Then again, I'm not ashamed, not on this thread anyhow!

I love Dr Who and have done since I was really young. The ealiest I remember is the transformation to Tom Baker. But of all the monsters/enemies etc, the only ones I really remember scaring me out of my wits were the "Stones of Blood". Weird huh?

foxabout2pop · 10/01/2007 13:41

I've always had a soft spot for Daleks actually. I really do think they are misunderstood

3rdTriMossTer · 10/01/2007 13:42

Iklboo hello, another one for our geeky club!!

Weren't you scared of the Daleks then? I actually had nightmares about them when I was a kid!

OP posts:
AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 10/01/2007 13:44

my heads full of trivia after years of fanboy abuse/fanzine editing/illustration commissions etc.........full on geek fanboy here!!!!!!...hence my girlies named after an actress from my fave horror movie and my fave dr who supporting character (alledgedly) and our littlest named after an irish vampire from our fave comic!

3rdTriMossTer · 10/01/2007 13:48

Ash I have to say, I was pleased to prove to dh, after showing him your quiz, that there are genuinely people out there who know more about it than I do!

OP posts:
AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 10/01/2007 13:50

and i'm the normal one at our local who group!

Iklboo · 10/01/2007 13:51

No the daleks didn't bother me at all. I thought they sounded like the Smash men!

Iklboo · 10/01/2007 13:52

BTW - did anyone see David Tennant (Ten Inch) on the Friday Night Project last week.

PHWOAR!!

He said Dr Who was a role he'd always coveted.

I told DH David Tennant was a ROLL I'd always coveted!
