Thought the standard had dropped a bit a few months ago, but it's really good again!

Great storylines with April/Jackson, Meredith sad new love interest , Hunt and Amelia, so many new complications!

OP posts:
ReadyPlayerOne · 29/05/2016 21:01

I like Penny!

Matilda2013 · 29/05/2016 21:03

I didn't like how penny suddenly became portrayed as another mother figure for Sofia! She didn't even know her five minutes ago Hmm

EverySongbirdSays · 29/05/2016 21:28

Just thought. Callie like the others has a stake in Grey Sloan in Mark's name and is just fucking off across the country over an insipid resident with no personality? Oh whatever.

Scandal has had it's ups and downs - it has got a bit laughable the universe is too small, so its all the same players over and over.

OOO- MAJOR PLOT TWIST

Oh it's just that character again....sigh.

The first 2/3 series were brill though

KP86 · 29/05/2016 21:34

They had to write out the actress somehow...

Did anyone know that Arizona is pregnant IRL?

EverySongbirdSays · 29/05/2016 21:38

I think it's mentioned somewhere on thread the Arizona RL fact I found most surprising is that Steven Speilberg is her stepdad

TellMeDani · 29/05/2016 21:40

It does make you wonder if they should have quit the show while they were ahead. Also makes me slightly annoyed that other series get cut when they should really carry on.

I did read that Arizona was pregnant, there were quite few funny camera angles and 1 shot recently where she just blatantly looked pg.

EverySongbirdSays · 29/05/2016 21:50

As much as Ellen Pompeo took the hump and cried sexism, I do think they should've written them out together when he wanted to go and ended the show, not because she couldn't carry the show without him, she can but because

a) Already past its best at that point
b)Gives Day One viewers like me a happy ending.

Meredith began as an intern, she was dark and twisty.
She ends a happily married successful career woman

I do feel like the "stars" are beginning to desert it like a sinking ship like they recognise it has passed its best.

Eric Dane and Chyler Leigh were written out but the last 3 big departures have all gone by choice.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 29/05/2016 22:10

Patrick Dempsey didn't go by choice did he?

EverySongbirdSays · 29/05/2016 22:16

Yep, he'd actually been wanting to go for years and kept being persuaded to stay, he couldn't be persuaded the 3rd of 4th time and THAT's what led to animosity and him being killed off instead of becoming a guest star or completely written out. He was on a reduced episode contract already

paniniswapx3 · 05/06/2016 22:38

I quite enjoyed this weeks episode but was annoyed at the end with Meredith & the Dr that Owen hates. What was the point of that?

Also, what's Jo's backstory other than being homeless & living in her car? Why does she not want to marry Alex?

Glad to see the back of Penny now.

TheSecondOfHerName · 05/06/2016 22:42

When I saw Jo refuse to marry Alex, I wondered whether she is already married. So can't marry him for bigamy reasons.

paniniswapx3 · 05/06/2016 23:02

I thought that you Second, but there's never been any hint of that before now.

Hope Bailey & her DH sort things out as that's boring me now.

FranHastings · 06/06/2016 00:11

That's another episode I haven't made it all the way through I paused it to deal with something and thought "actually no, I can't be arsed with the rest of it". This season has been tough going. I don't care about any of them anymore, apart from Alex. Loads of very likeable characters have been turned extremely unlikeable.

EverySongbirdSays · 06/06/2016 00:29

I'm totally with you Fran I'm a Day One viewer and me and my friend are doing a rewatch the old eps are SOOO good - this Season has been terrible - the storylines as well as the characters.

The most notable difference too was how snappy the dialogue used to be - clever and witty.

All the women are annoying shrews now. The worst being Katherine but none are much better.

spiderlight · 06/06/2016 13:07

It used to be so brilliantly scripted, with not a word wasted - even something that was just seemingly a throwaway comment at the time woudl suddenly make sense later in the episode. I still love it but I find myself fiddling with my phone/checking facebook while it's on now, which would have been unthinkable a few seasons back in case I missed something critical, because back then I cared about all of it.

OreosOreosOreos · 06/06/2016 14:27

De-lurking from this thread to agree. Shonda's got 4 prime time shows she's writing at the moment, maybe she's stretched a bit thin?

As an aside, has anyone read her book ('he year of yes' or something like that)? I'm about 1/3 of the way through it as an audiobook an am really enjoying it. It's autobiographical, and the way she writes/reads you can really hear the voice of her characters in hers (if that makes any sense?!)

EverySongbirdSays · 06/06/2016 18:58

I think her role on Greys has been reduced to general storyline/casting overseeing and maybe 2 episodes a year and it shows - the voice is gone.

That's what made early Scandal so good because the writing was strong again.

She's not the showrunner or writer on Murder just producer that shows too, as the portrayals of women are really poor on that IMO. That's why I quit.

I have not got into The Catch so far which has completely taken me aback.

I feel like as a creative, even she has no more to add to Greys and it's worn thin for her but she has to keep making it because the studio keep renewing it and it's become a bit indentured servitude. If she had total creative control, likke say, Ricky Gervais and The Office. I feel like it would've ended 2 years ago, if not more. They break ER's record next year - that could be it.

FranHastings · 06/06/2016 23:48

I wish she'd come back properly then, because it's all gone to hell. All these characters I used to love have disappeared. Even the patient storyline have gone a bit dull.

They've split up Amelia and Owen so much, I literally don't care that they're back together. Jackson and April are heading the same way.

Meredith and Riggs I don't care for.

Do we think Alex and Meredith are endgame? I'm not sure how I feel about that. Probably negative. 😁

I need some slow (but not too slow) burn romance next season. That might get me back on board. I'm a massive sucker for that.

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 00:18

I can see an Alex and Meredith happening not because it should but just because they are there.

I loved the Derek/Meredith stuff when he had fallen in lov with her but was trying to salvage his marriage. I felt they did that really well there was no black and white with it at points.

Yang/Burke and Yang/Hunt were also brilliant

She is the biggest loss to the show

I think that Owens dead sister will turn out to be Owens sister in a coma in an Army hospital in Germany

I dislike Amelia and haven't taken to Maggie. They've ruined Jo she was great and Arizona for the same reason. They've become selfish and whiny. Steph is a decent actress in search of a character.

FranHastings · 07/06/2016 11:08

I completely agree with you Songbird. God, I miss Yang.

I'm surprised Owen's dead sister hasn't rocked up yet, but I'm guessing they are maybe saving that for next season now. Just as Meredith and Riggs become even closer. She flees to the arms of Alex. I'll stop there, because I'm in danger of writing a bit of fanfiction.

They are so bloody whiny. Start being kickass again! Channel some Yang. I miss the old seasons. Waaah.

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 13:21

If you have Sky the old series are all there on Box Set maybe also on Now TV since it basically is Sky. The difference is ASTONISHING

FranHastings · 07/06/2016 13:22

I don't have either, sadly. I'm waiting for it to come back onto Amazon Prime. Sad

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 07/06/2016 22:32

Meredith is like a completely different character... I always have to watch a bit of series 3/4 to feel better about it all!

CrazyDuchess · 07/06/2016 22:36

I keep coming back to th4 bomb in body episode.... that was epic!

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 23:10

I JUST watched that one.

The second series was never beaten (The Addison Triangle, George gets the syph, the train, the bomb, the prom)

Series Three had some good bits (almost 100% of them Yang/Burke) but also hit some bum notes (Merediths death experience)

The real death knell sounded when it became Seattle Grace Mercy West frankly
