Thought the standard had dropped a bit a few months ago, but it's really good again!

Great storylines with April/Jackson, Meredith sad new love interest , Hunt and Amelia, so many new complications!

Ooh I'm glad there's a thread Smile I've just watched the most recent one on Sky (with Jackson's mum sticking her oar in) and I was so Angry at her, I needed to vent!
The storylines are no where near as good as they used to be, but I still love it. I've always hated Meredith, and I can take or leave both of her whiny sisters Grin Alex is the real hero of the show IMHO!
What the heck is Katherine Avery playing at though?! I feel sorry for April. She's whiny but believable.

horizontilting · 18/04/2016 22:49

Yes to them ramping up to Owen's supposedly-dead sister going to show up. And she's a surgeon. So they'll have a readymade on-off traumatically-conflicted relationship couple with her and Riggs.

Maybe that'll let them have April and Jackson back to resident happy couple - I find their whole story harder to believe in since we missed so much of it with the time jump.

I found April intensely annoying for years, right up until she ran out on her wedding and then, as Cristina said "I've been on the fence for years about Kepner but now I'm not just a friend, I'm a fan!". And now they're ruining it again.

I don't like all these staged time-jump etc episodes, they feel like a device where I just want to be pleasantly caught up in the story. The one with Meredith beaten up was hard to believe. I've a feeling it'd be written to be her submitted episode for the Emmys, it seems to have been directed by Denzel Washington. But I thought her acting in the episode where Derek died far far better.

Meredith has really grown on me over the years but I so miss Cristina. I enjoy it still for nostalgia's sake. Just started rewatching Season 1 though, and, god, it used to be such good TV!

feeling better for getting those views off my chest

JessicasElephant · 18/04/2016 22:55

You've all inspired me to watch again from the beginning! Hopefully jackson's mum being such a bitch will spur him into fighting for April and they can live happily ever after. I dislike Meredith and miss Christina, but I love Amelia. I liked her in Private Practice first though, she was better in that.

Gileswithachainsaw · 18/04/2016 22:56

Me me me me

love GA.

however they have ruined amelia. who was amazing in private practice. I don't understand what happened. I like her. I just don't like how they portray her.

April I agree was annoying. then something incredible happened she became likeable and the Samuel storyline was so well done Sad

but they had to go and make her the annoying whiny selfish god obsessed weirdo again.

how did they get her from car wreck rescue hero to whiny bitch again I'm such a shirt space of time.

I'm liking arizona more again now. no that hiding behind clipboards is not hiding the bump!!! Grin

callie- they make her more and more boring witg every partner. give us back underwear dancing ortho rockstar! !!

scotsgirl64 · 18/04/2016 23:01

I still watch Gray's Anatomy but I miss ER....

Gileswithachainsaw · 18/04/2016 23:03

nothing will ever top ER!!

firawla · 18/04/2016 23:04

It hasn't been the same since Cristina left, and Derek! I am finding it a bit bland now but will still keep watching.

I don't like penny at all, and I really didn't warm to Amelia but I've gone and watched private practice since and now I appreciate her character more and find her way less annoying.

Really do wish they could bring Cristina back though!

PurpleDaisies · 18/04/2016 23:05

I'm currently watching er on DVD. It is definitely the best medical drama ever made.

horizontilting · 18/04/2016 23:11

Yes, I miss:

ER
Callie dancing in her underwear and secretly living in the hospital as she just found it more convenient
The interns being young and terrified of Bailey.
McDreamy and McSteamy.
Cristina's take on things. Any things.
April being likeable for a while.
Jackson having more hair.
Callie having a personality of her own - she and Penny seem v bland. Surely Penny is a one-series character though? To be replaced by Owen's amnesiac/had a nervous breakdown/lost in the mountains/living as a recluse in a monastery sister when she suddenly reappears?
Meredith recalling she had children (when it was just Zola she was actually part of their life but, wow, the wraparound childcare in that hospital is excellent! I guess part-owning the hospital helps..)
George - I'd forgotten how funny he was until rewatching the episode where Richard sends him to be his eyes and ears around the hospital and George is traumatised by all the secrets he stumbles across.

Possibly not in that order.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 18/04/2016 23:11

I dream they'll bring Cristina back... If the actress doesn't have much work maybe she would?

Meredith is ageing rapidly! She seems so much older than Karev somehow, I feel like they'll probably end up together but it would wrong.

I feel they never should've killed Lexi or Derek... Or even Sloan. I love watching from the beginning. Bliss.

horizontilting · 18/04/2016 23:12

Early series of ER are amazing.

NightWanderer · 18/04/2016 23:16

It's still on? Shock I thought it got cancelled years ago.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/04/2016 23:18

I'm still watching but this season is really lacking.

The only characters I currently like are Arizona and Webber.

horizontilting · 18/04/2016 23:18

(sneaks appreciation thread of ER-from-the-start into this thread in case there are likeminded folk here who haven't found it yet)

Roobix04 · 18/04/2016 23:21

Still watching but it's definitely not as good as it used to be. They've lost the humour I think. You can't have a really good drama without the funny light moments.
And I don't mind if Alex winds up with Meradith but please not Jo. They've made her really whiny and unlikeable.

horizontilting · 18/04/2016 23:21

They still have a few characters left they haven't killed off yet, NightWanderer ;)

I've always assumed the entire hospital will be destroyed with all its staff in the series finale but now I'm guessing Meredith's "waiting in the wings" man will be kept for the end instead. (Do you think she's remembered to mention to him that she has 3 kids?)

ElderlyKoreanLady · 18/04/2016 23:23

I'm really missing Christina. She gave the show a depth that they haven't managed to replicate in my eyes. She had different priorities, a different outlook on things and fantastic banter.

Not liking Callie's new girlfriend. Everyone's relationship with her feels false. Amelia has been very predictable and repetitive from day 1. Owen isn't bringing much to the table either. I'd also like gay men to be better represented...we seem to have lost the bar owners and I thought they added quite a bit to the dynamic. It's become more who-loves-who than anything now.

Really liking the storyline with Bailey and her scalpel happy husband. It's one of the few storylines that is helping to keep it in the medical drama genre.

BagelGoesWalking · 20/04/2016 17:49

Agree with all of you! Hmmm, should I start watching from Season 1 on Netflix when I finish House of Cards? Grin

I like Maggie and De Luca. She doesn't replace Lexi or Cristina in any way, but has been a good addition. April is whiny "can we talk about this alone" - how many times is she going to say that? I'd like her and Jackson to be back together but can't see this happening and being believable at the same time.

OP posts:
Nessalina · 20/04/2016 19:35

Ugh, no Maggie is perhaps the most annoying.
Still love Bailey, her DH (what's his name?!), Alex, and Arizona. And that's about it!
Remember when there was proper drama? Like the shooter in the hospital?? That was BRILLIANT Shock
ER was fabulous, Carol was my hero, but that petered out towards the end. These things always go on too long...

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 20/04/2016 19:38

The problem is, how much more drama can there realistically be? Meredith has drowned, had her hand on a bomb, been in a plane crash, been in a shooting, been attacked, had her husband die, had her sister die, had two surprise pregnancies and two secret sisters... What else can happen to one person?! Hmm

doleritedinosaur · 20/04/2016 19:51

It will never be as good as season 2. Season 2 is just breathless.

I miss Christina, I miss Derek so much.

I want the show to end as I feel as though it's done too much but think they want to beat ER & have 15 seasons.

It feels almost slow at the moment, I guess until April has her baby. & Hunt's sister is going to show up.

madamginger · 21/04/2016 08:38

They've just renewed it for a new season

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 21/04/2016 09:16

I miss Cristina, George, Lizzie and young Meredith.

I miss Sloan and Lexie

I miss the OBGYN that was played by Kate Walsh and I cant remember her name

I miss Torres and Arizona together

OohMavis · 21/04/2016 09:37

Not forgetting Denny and Izzy. Sigh. That was a lovely arc.

Denny's gone rogue in the zombie apocalypse and is busy beating peoples' heads in with a barbed wire baseball bat. Remember when you were NICE, Denny?

firawla · 21/04/2016 09:43

Addison takemeupthenorthmountain - if you haven't watched private practise, give that a try!
