I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

Jed reminds me of a prettier Tilda Swinton?

BarefootAcrossHotLegoPieces · 01/03/2016 21:46

I am enjoying this a lot!

AdriftOnMemoryBliss · 01/03/2016 21:52

if anyone recognises her, apparently the actress playing Jed was in The Great Gatsby.

Didn't enjoy this episode as much as last week's.

I've never seen Hugh Laurie in a straight role before, he's brilliant at doing polished menace.

Panicmode1 · 02/03/2016 12:39

I thought the first episode was really good, but this week's was all style and no (or very little) substance. I hope Sunday's is better otherwise I may not stick with it, despite the visual feast (and the uber talented Coleman, Laurie and Holland).

OnlyLovers · 02/03/2016 13:22

I found Pine's not-very-badass-at-all motorbike (with panniers Grin) funny rather than sexy or scary.

And the Devon local yokels were massively cliched.

I can't really believe that Roper's top-notch security guys would have let the hold-up happen, and was surprised that he didn't have their guts for garters afterwards.

Also, is stealing some cash from the hotel and being wanted for a small-town murder really enough to convince the 'worst man in the world' that Pine is now as villainous as he and his own crew? I'm a bit Hmm about that.

Having said all that, I enjoyed it. I loved that ultra-swanky restaurant and the jaw-dropping house in Mallorca.

mercifulTehlu · 02/03/2016 13:27

Awww - it was understated sexy badass. None of your unsubtle swagger, just a bit of unshowy menace with panniers Grin. He can menace me any time he likes.

CaveMum · 02/03/2016 14:23

I think Sunday's episode had to be a slow-burner. It needed to set up what is to come and give a legitimate back story to Pine.

Squoosh you should try and watch a few episodes of House. Hugh Laurie is wonderful in that.

UnGoogleable · 03/03/2016 22:43

Ooh I'm loving this series. TH is my new TV crush.

I can't see Hugh Laurie as anyone other than Prince Regent. I love him, but can't take him seriously.

Does anyone know why Olivia Coleman was in a crappy office, what is her role? One minute I think she's just a low-level MI6 civil servant, but the next she's sitting in on high level meetings... so what is she?

UnGoogleable · 03/03/2016 22:45

Pine is going to shag the model girlfriend isn't he. Then rescue her from Roper's grip.

The other thing that didn't quite ring true for me was this 'avenging' backstory to him - yes he shagged that lady in Cairo and was outraged by her murder, but he wasn't in love with her, it's not like he knew her very well. So I find it a bit unlikely that he'd be willing to take these risks to avenge her now...

BarefootAcrossHotLegoPieces · 03/03/2016 22:54

He's a do the right thing sort, isn't he? Which is why he leaked her docs. Also guilt. - that got her killed.

mercifulTehlu · 04/03/2016 07:07

Exactly Barefoot - he was kind of responsible for her being killed, even if he'd leaked the documents for noble reasons.

Yy to Pine shagging the girlfriend. Can't imagine Roper will be too chuffed about that... Unlike the TH fans viewing.

thenightsky · 04/03/2016 20:40

Loving this.

I want that arms dealer girlfriend life. I reckon I could hack it. Massive house in Mallorca, speedboat to expensive restaurant of an evening, long white expensive evening dress...mmmmm.

BarefootAcrossHotLegoPieces · 04/03/2016 21:41

CONSORTING WITH EVIL NIGHTSKY?!!?!!!

mercifulTehlu · 04/03/2016 23:10

thenightsky - yup, as long as she gets to shag Pine. Arms dealer nay have nice lifestyle but I'd rather be shacked up with Pine in his bleak Swiss apartment.

UnGoogleable · 05/03/2016 12:29

Hmm I see I've distracted you all with the idea of shagging Pine. And Hugh Laurie. I wouldn't say no to either

So can anyone answer my other question - What's Olivia Coleman's job? I dont get why she's seemingly so lowly to have a crap office, while also having big meetings with bigwigs.

mercifulTehlu · 05/03/2016 14:02

Don't worry, UnGoggleable, I was already pretty distracted by that tbh (Pine not Roper). To the point that I feel I have contributed little in the way of intelligent comment to the thread . Must try harder...

So... I guess the point about Olivia Coleman's character is that there are lots of people doing important jobs in the intelligence services without having the swanky kind of lifestyle we see in Bond films. And I suppose the juxtaposition of her crappy office and Roper's luxury lifestyle makes us hate him even more.

There, that was slightly more intelligent and less drooly.

mercifulTehlu · 05/03/2016 14:07

Oops * UnGoogleable, not UnGoggleable - apologies!

JellyBaby26 · 05/03/2016 14:25

Only watched one episode so far but love it. Can tell it will be v gripping.

Disliked Olivia colemans half northern accent, very poor indeed and don't see the point. I struggle to see her as anyone but Sophie (peep show)

spanglyflip · 06/03/2016 18:51

any idea when tonight's episode will be available on iplayer?
this programme is kind-of keeping me sane at the mo, having a hard time looking after baby with the stupid physical health challenges i'm having at the mo.
I need to know when I can watch the next episode as i'm trying to work out if I fancy tom hiddleston, I need to know if he's going to be my new husband ;-)

CaveMum · 06/03/2016 19:37

The popular programmes are usually up fairly quickly, perhaps within an hour or so of finishing.

fruitpastille · 06/03/2016 20:11

Checking in as another fan! I think I have a weird crush thing going on with Tom Hollander - I enjoyed the cbeebies bedtime story read by him the other night a bit too much Grin

I'm recording it as I always have far too much to do on a Sunday night to enjoy TV properly. Planning to watch on tues. I think I might read the book when it's all finished. I am hooked but DH underwhelmed (he never likes this sort of thing though).

I agree with the pp as it being a bit unbelievable that he would do this just because of Sophie. Also a bit unbelievable how easily be can be violent etc. However that does not spoil my enjoyment at all.

HermioneWeasley · 06/03/2016 20:36

It's excellent - I can't do suspense so I'm finding it very difficult, but the performances are so good I can't tear myself away.

Though I am also confused about Olivia Coleman 's job

spanglyflip · 06/03/2016 21:13

CaveMum thanks for the info :-) the scenes of those snowy white mountains in episode 2 were just bliss! :-)

whyistherumgone · 06/03/2016 21:16
  1. loving the beach running scenes
  1. those are fecking ugly trainers
  1. Tom Hollander is vaguely terrifying

now sitting and waiting impatiently for pine to inevitably shag roper's girlfriend.
